Caramel!

Naw, this thread isn't about whether or not you like caramel, but rather, how you pronounce the word itself. Though there might be others, the two main ways I've heard the word pronounced are [care-a-mel] and [car-mol]. Which of those do you use, or if neither, how do you pronounce caramel?

Myself, I go with the former pronunciation. x3 The [care-a-mel] has a softer sound than [car-mol], which is almost harsh to me.

And as a final note, I do love caramel! =D

Everyone around where I live says it like this, so it is probably a dialectical thing. I have heard it the other way, but someone might look at you weird if you said it like that around where I live.

EDIT: Speaking of caramel, I was just eating chocolate, and it turned out to have caramel in it. Unfortunately I don't like caramel very much, so it ruined the chocolate. This was probably 20 seconds before I saw this thread, so it was kind of strange...

Phonetically speaking I say ca-ra-mel. The car-mol pronounciation is actually a first name where im from but more softer sounding with the second syllable.

I pronounce it as "care-a-mell". Most people around here where I live pronounce it that way too. My older brother liked to be really different (mostly to just mess with people), so he would pronounce it "cuh-ram-el", with a heavy emphasis on the "ram" part (hence the reason I put it in bold ).

I also want to add that I love caramel in almost anything I've ever eaten it in. The best for me is caramel-filled dark chocolate. I remember when I first got braces many years ago, I wasn't allowed to have anything with caramel until I got my braces off. That was the longest two years of my life.

Amen, although I call it care-a-mel, it just sounds nicer.
Caramel apples are pretty good though(if it's sour apple) it's a nice sweet-sour mix.

Where I live, I don't think there's a majority of people who pronounce it one way. I hear plenty from both, but only those two pronunciations. The first time I ever heard the word was years and years back, where my sister mentioned it. She pronounced it [care-a-mel] as well, so I think that was what influenced by thought.

I say [care-a-mel] I hate that there are more than one ways to say this word lol, like if I'm having a conversation with someone and we both say it different ways, it just doesn't work. It's just like the word tweezers and how some people pronounce it twowzers (I don't even know how to spell that)

I take great offense when somebody pronounces something the way it's not supposed to be pronounced. If you can't pronounce it, then you shouldn't be talking about it, let alone eating it. But it's in the Constitution. First amendment grants freedom of the press, religion, speech, complaint, and caramel, so there's really nothing I can do about it.

There are a lot of words that are spelled strangely, but are pronounced differently. Like Elephant.. why not just Elefent?

I've always been taught to pronounce it like "carmol". Maybe it's just where I was raised. Cara Mel sounds weird.. and it rolls off my tongue uncomfortably. There are a lot of silent letters in words.
