Brett Favre Returning in the 2008 Season?

There's rumors that Brett Favre may return for his 17th season with the Packers. The funny thing is he tells tells the Packers that he has an itch to return, while on the on side of the ball he texts and says "It's all rumors". My question is do you think Brett will return or will he sit on retirement.

I'm a huge Packer fan, and yes I would like for him to return, but he needs to decide wather or not to return or retire and he needs to do that very soon.

I'm getting tired of the Fav-ray drama. "I'm retiring", "I want to come back", "I'm retiring", "I want to come back", and so on and so forth. Make up your damn mind, Brett.

Of course the guy has an itch to come back. He's played football all his life prettymuch, he loves it. Many people who retire have an "itch" to go back to work, doing the same thing. Hell, I have an "itch" to go back to Iraq, and I only did that for two years, not sixteen.

Frankly, the Packers are screwed. Rogers just ain't gonna be able to fill Favre's shoes, and they're going to have a tough schedule this season. Ah well, as long as they don't go to the Super Bowl and the Bears beat 'em twice (AGAIN), I'll be happy.

Best thing Brett Favre ever did: There's Something About Mary. "I'm in town to play the Dolphins, dumbass."

The Bears will be lucky if they win four games this year, the Packers are the least of thier worries.

As for Favre, he's earned the right to be on the fence about his choices but it's reached the point of just being silly. When you do anything for as long as he has, you're going to have reservations about saying goodbye but the Packers just need to move on. If they released him (which they can't, due to fan fallout), he could find a job at Atlanta.

The Bears have their own problems, but most fans wouldn't have an extreme problem if they had a mediocre year again this year, as long as they take down the Packers twice. Just like last year. But that's not the issue here, it's what Favre and the Packers are going to do.

And while Favre has earned quite a bit (though I do recognize that Marino was a better QB, unless you place too much emphasis on rings), this crap needs to stop. He's been "on the fence" for the past few offseasons. Though, to his credit, he admitted that it was all rumors, so I'd imagine it's story-happy ESPN writers and fanatics that are spreading this around.

Yeah, it'll be real hard to throw that many interceptions in one career w/ the Packers. Tough shoes to fill. :\

I think you forgot a couple of things.

    * Most consecutive starts by a quarterback (NFL): 253 (275 including playoffs)
    * Most wins by a starting quarterback (NFL) regular season career: 160 (Regular season record: 160-93)
    * Most career passing touchdowns: 442
    * Most career passing yards: 61,655
    * Most career pass completions: 5,377
    * Most career pass attempts: 8,758
    * Most career interceptions thrown: 288
    * Most career games with at least three touchdowns: 63

Favre holds the record for consecutive starts by a quarterback with 253. His streak ranks behind only Jim Marshall, who started 270 straight games.

In the playoffs, Favre stands behind only Joe Montana in pass completions, passing touchdowns, passing yards and passing attempts.

In addition, Favre owns a number of team records, having printed his name into almost every passing category in the annals of Green Bay Packers history, most recently setting the team record for consecutive completions with 20 on November 22, 2007, against the Detroit Lions. With 38 "come-from-behind" 4th quarter wins & 2 more overtime victories, Brett Favre is the Green Bay Packers record holder and second only to John Elway's 47 4th quarter or OT "come-back wins", in NFL history.
Maybe you just forgot, you silly goose.

As for Favre returning. I have mixed feelings. He's been playing for 16 years. He's got so many injuries that it can't be healthy for him to play for much longer. Maybe it is time for Aaron Rodgers or Brian Brohme (however you spell his name) to get their shot.

On the other hand, it's Brett ****ing Favre.

    Brett. ****ing. Favre.

    I hate Brett Favre.

Dan Marino and John Elway both retired when they knew their time was up. They didn't make a huge ordeal about it. They left and never came back. When you look at Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, you get the feeling they will hang it up and be done when their career ends.

He was a great quarterback (4th best ever), but enough is enough.

    QFT.

I'm not a big Farve fan, probably because I feel he's entirely too overhyped; and I feel given enough time Payton Manning will take a lot of records of his own.

I'm not a fan of Tom Brady, either; but I hate the Patriots, so it goes w/o saying.

(Payton Manning is, by the way, my favorite QB)

Hi, my name is Brett Favre.

I am on the cover of this year's Madden game.

Every Madden cover boy gets injured the following season, without fail.

I want to come back so that I can sit out two thirds of my season with a stupid injury.

Let's not also forget that he played a bit longer than most of those previous record-holders, and for a team that had prettymuch NO running game. Unless you count "Butterfingers" Green. They had a diverse playbook and quite a few different options, but that entire team was built around Brett Favre. If I had ten guys on the field (and a few coaches and managers off the field) doing nothing but supporting me, I'd look like a good player, too.

Don't get me wrong, I've got loads of respect for the guy. He's the only QB I've ever seen carry his Receiver off the field after a big play. (Though I did lose some respect for him when he layed down so Strahan could get the single-season sack record.) But, as has been mentioned, most of the "greats" know when enough is enough, and when the time comes to throw in the towel. He's too damn emotional -- if he has a bad season next year, he'll want to come back just so that the last season of his career won't be a sucky one. And if he has a good season next year, he won't want to leave.

Let 'em crash and burn with Rodgers.

It's all about Chad Pennington and the Jets!!!

I give Favre credit for being the Cal Ripken Jr. of football. You have to admit it's not easy to go out there every Sunday for however many straight seasons he played in, especially playing the day after his father died. Granted, in Ripken's later years, his batting average wasn't that great and he didn't have the range that he did when he was a kid, but he was still Cal Ripken Jr. Even though they're both legends, Ripken was hurting his team, even if he didn't realize it. Favre is approaching that same level. I do however think that had they won the SuperBowl, then he would've wanted one more season. It's a Catch-22 like Sasquatch pointed out; If he's good he earns himself another season, if he sucks, he wants redemption and to "end" on a good note.

Ultimately, Favre is one of the best quarterbacks to play the game. I think it's time for him to hang his cleats up and take it easy. There's no doubt in my mind that he'll be heavily involved in football even if he retires, either in some form of coaching position or even doing the TV bit, like Tiki. I just hope he doesn't sell his soul to play for the Raiders.

    Exactly.

He broke all of Marino's records by playing longer and playing in a more offense-friendly rule system. And he did it while shattering the interception record, which Marino did not come close to holding.

Peyton Manning will probably surpass these records, but he has said in interviews he wants to retire relatively early, so who knows.
