I also have personal experience of it not makin a difference. There are of course people who don't like facial hair. The reason I cite studies, is because studies indicate the opinion of the majority based on consensus, and extrapolation from psychological research.
People who like beards generally do so based on subconscious implications of a beard rather than conscious thought on the matter. People who dislike beards generally do so based upon conscious consideration of the matter. It makes sense that you're going to hear people talk about things they have chosen to dislike more than you're going to hear people talking about the things they never even really gave thought to liking. Particularly when they often aren't even aware that they're being influenced by subconscious reactions to stimuli.
