    2010 Winter Olympics thread

Who's been watching the Olympics lately? I personally love both the summer and winter olympics, it's just badass to see people from around the world to compete and give it their all for the bragging rights of being the best in the world at something. This thread is for the discussion of it, so have at it!

First off, Shaun White is a fkn beast. 48.6/50 on his second halfpipe run is insane, he ran a clinic out there! Also, has anyone seen his special training halfpipe he uses? He has to get a helicopter to take him out to his special halfpipe that's literally in the middle of nowhere. Talk about dedication.

I still hate Bode Miller. Yeah he's good, and normally I don't mind people having their "w/e *shrugs*" attitude, but it makes us as a country look disrespectful when we have people like that representing us. Not only that, he's old as hell; I am sure this will be his last olympic event ever. In spite of all this, he still took home the Bronze in the downhill event, so good for him I guess.

The ladie's Halfpipe event was intense. Torah Bright from Australia literally got the lowest score in the first run, and since they go on the scores from the first run for run #2, she had to go back to back, scoring a whopping 45.0 on her second run, which got her the gold! Congrats to her. Kelly Clark singing right before her second run made me lol. Also, that Liu Jiayu from China looks really promising, as she got 4th overall. She made a small mistake on her second run which probably costed her a medal placing, but she recovered well without even hesitiation and kept it up. Also, the fact that she's only 17 means she will be an up and comer for sure.

I normally don't care about the Olympics, but for some reason, this year I've been watching them. The speed skating race where two Koreans knocked each other out of medal contention, allowing two Americans on the podium was probably the best thing I've seen in any of the competitions.

    And Sayian: it's curling.

Vancity Olympics baby!!!!! Welcome to Canada!!!

You couldn't have a better country to host such a unified games!

Top sexy countries (as per opening ceremonies):
    1) Canada
    2) Germany
    3) Denmark

    Most disappointing:
    1) United States of America
    2) Sweden
    3) South Korea

    Most surprising:
    1) Denmark
    2) Japan
    3) Switzerland (sp?)

    Out of Nowhere award:
The country sign bearers....goddamn they were gorgeous

Besides the weather (thank global warming, not vancity for that) its been nothing but awesome. One of the most exciting events thus far has been curling....CURLING!!!! ****ING CURLING!! who woulda guessed!

Many of america's medals are the events they made up themselves to stroke their ego's much like their tiny metaphorical cocks...snowboarding?? c'monnnnnnnnnnnn...shawn white is a ****ing loser anyways. He wont even talk about chronic in the sport...what a sellout...a 9 million dollar sellout!

Watching the olympics reminds how f*cking amazing we are as americans. Shaun White is a damned monster. Double 720 McTwist. First time its ever been done on a half pipe. In men's snowboarding I think USA is set, I mean come on no one can touch Shaun White.

Curling is amazing. Me and all my friends sit on the coach, and watch curling. USA had an amazing comeback against Switzerland. I thought for sure they were gonna win, but USA came back.

Another interesting event is downhill moguls. The ski event where the entire run is bumpy f*cking snow mounds. It is pretty good.

Speaking of curling, which I enjoy, can anyone seriously say that it is an athletic game or a sport even? I find that there may be too many events where they could easily be taken out. If the winter games have curling why don't the summer games have Bocce? The Olympics are about the supposed best competing in events that test a whole range of physical and mental toughness - some of the current events just don't fit into that.

I've never had much interest in the Olympics as I view them as a shadow of what they once were. Along with at least one silly rule that doesn't allow the best of the best it makes them not so great.

Of what I've seen of this year's winter games: a woman's hockey match between Canada and Sweden. That game was quite a bore as Canada was overpowering and Sweden did not play well at all; it looked as if they did not show any effort.

I'm more excited about the World Cup than these Olympics - oh and the start of the 2010 baseball season.

LOL. I guess the country leading in the medal count so far is the most dissapointing country at the olympics? Makes perfect sense. I smell a butthurt canadian.

    I don't really watch sports at all. But my dad told me about how Nodar Kumaritashvili (I think I spelled it right) crashed into a beam and died. Its kind of crazy. After seeing the video I don't think I'll be watching it anytime soon ><;;

I'm not gonna lie, I took Thursday off because I was sick, and I started watching curling. At first I was kind of confused as to what was going on, but once I watched a few rounds I started to get really into it and actually couldn't turn it off. I kind of want to try it now, since it's pretty similar to shuffleboard, and I used to play that at the bars upstate all the time.

I cannot remember his name for the life of me, but the male moguls was won by a Canandian. He stomped the shit outta everyone. He also was the first Canadian to win gold in Canada I believe.

While I enjoy the Winter Games, I must say the summer games kick ass. I love watching me some basketball, and greco-roman wrestling. Plus the fact that Micheal Phelps is a Android, and wins gold in everything doesn't hurt.

We've hosted two Olympics and this is the first one where we've gotten gold on Canadian soil. I think there is 4 or something now. Not great compared to other countries, but damn good for us!

Yeah, this is the first year I've ever actually been able to figure out curling's rules. It's pretty cool, now that I can follow it. The US is embarassingly bad at it.

In other news, USA hockey rules!
