    Question why did BERSEK end?

So weird don't you think that BERSERK just cut off like that, roughly around volume 13 in the manga, it could have been one of the best animes anybody know why it stopped?

The first anime was poorly produced and wasn't as popularly recognized as the other manga-turned-anime during it's time, which was in 1997. That's SIX YEARS [2003] until it gets translated into DVDs with English dubbing. Despite the manga's greatness, the anime simply did not have enough eyes watching it. There is some good news, however, as a second season of Berserk is going to be made. I'm not kidding here.

A friend I know knows this guy who owns a comic book store and is Japanese. This owner got wind of what's going down and so far it's confirmed there will be a second season with bigger productions, better animation, but the drawback is we won't see it until 2009-2011. That really pissed me off as hardcore fans such as myself have been waiting for YEARS to get the second season and now that it's coming, it won't be here for a good 2-3 years.

I guess it also ended at that volume because the manga is still going today. If they wanted to release an anime they would have to end it somewhere.

Wow I didn't know a second series was coming out. That is really something to look forward to =]

I do agree though that the anime was not as good as the manga. Though I am only up to volume 10 of the manga.

You're gonna hate me for saying this, but you should just stick to reading the manga. It's up to Vol 33 now so you better get to it.

Yeah, and Berserk isn't the only anime to end at a certain point in the manga.
Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, Air Master, Air Gear, xxxHolic (though a second season just started), Tsubasa...

    I'm sure there's more.

Yea, and what about the original Hellsing anime. WTF happened there? I've seen Ed Wood movies that had a more complete plot. I'm sorry but an anime version of a popular manga, just like a movie version of a book, never lives up to it's source material with any amount of consistency.

Uh, newsflash there, Sin, the first Hellsing series totally branches out of the manga. If you want the manga animated directly, and i mean this literally, watch the newer Hellsing Ultimate series.

Oh this is not news, I was just taking a ripe opportunity to bitch about the first series. I love the new OVA, but the first Hellsing anime confused and infuriated me. They left it hanging, never properly dealing with WHO was making the chip creatures. They focused instead on their unexplained, uncalled for MacGuffin, properly titled "Incognito". But this severely digresses from the topic at hand. Some fanboys are so thrilled to see the characters on screen that it doesn't matter about plot or faithfulness and when this happens the real fans are dismayed, stop watching and the series pans. Or at least in the case of Hellsing. However, as Toph pointed out, they made an OVA. And it was mentioned above how Berserk is getting another chance.
