    Cosplay?

Okay. Before anyone gets on me about this being in the wrong area, I ran it by Jay some time ago and he said it was cool. After all, it ties in pretty close with anime...

So basically, who cosplays here? If so, who have you went as? Are you going to any conventions this year? Basically just general cosplay chatter here, no one liners or any of that jazz.

That being said, I need some advice. I posted this over as cosplay.com and everyone said that they were "the best looking Alucard glasses I've ever seen on this site". Well, I'm a bit of a perfectionist and something just doesn't look right about them.

It's not the lense color, because Alucard's lenses are this color (orange/yellow and rarely all red). I know that there is a straight bar that runs across the top area there, which I'll put on later, but something just looks like it's missing. It might just be me, but a second opinion would be great...

I cosplay ... have done Mitsuko (BR), Tifa (AC), generic Loli and Soi Fong (Bleach). Going to Katsucon (soon!!), Otakon, and not sure about any others ... probably AUSA, maybe ANext and doubtfully Anime Boston. Would like to do AnimeExpo but its so inconvenient ...

Plenty of costumes planned, but priority lies on two various versions of Tifa (dependant on a couple of factors including how fat I am) and Ashe ! ;3 And then Lady (DMC3) and another one ... lol.

I haven't seen Hellsing so I'm not that familiar with the details of designs, but based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sikent3.jpg from an Alucard wiki, the middle bar should be an arch rather than straight. And the sides of the classes connecting to the earpeices or whatever are a little off ... but can't really be helped.

I would like to cosplay, when I get a lot thinner. I went to the Anime Expo of '06. Didn't get to see CLAMP though. Cosplaying looks like a lot of fun, but if it's going to be as hot as it was, I'll probably cosplay with some modified cooling outfit. XD

    Looks good to me...

It's hard to be a perfectionist and a cosplayer... Compromise is part of it. But from what I see they look just like the glasses in my manga. I certainly wouldn't try to hold out for anything better.

As for me cosplaying, I did once at the request of a friend. I dressed in a chinese red silk suit and then permanantly dyed my, (then) ridiculously long, hair shock white. Donned some Getas and used some make-up and became Ayame from Fruits Basket.

He suggested it to me, because I do such a convincing Aya voice. It turned out pretty realistic and I won some stupid prize for it. But I'm a tad too humiliated to actually show it to anyone...lol

Fear not, this is not...the end of this world.

There's just something missing when I look at them, though. I'm not entirely sure what it is! I'm sure I'll figure it out, but here are a few pictures to use as reference.

Anyway, is anybody here going to ACEN by chance?

    Might be that the rims aren't thick enough? Glare also is always an issue since animes love having hidden eyes <_<;;

Lol, the thing with perfection and cosplay is, compromising too much can make it look bad. It's a little bit of extra effort that can set you apart from a lot of other cosplayers. (Like, building or repainting shoes instead of buying an uglier pair that kind of looks similar but is really far from the design.) Although most of the time it's really for the fans of the series / character to notice, I guess.

Ahh, I'm getting pretty bad though. My friend wanted me to do Utena but I didn't really want to ... but I just found the perfect wig and can't let it pass by ;_; Too many wigs, lol.

See, I don't think I'd want to take the wig route because it'd drive me nuts the minute that it didn't look like the hair was supposed to be there, you know? I'm just that kinda guy. For Alucard, I'm just letting my hair grow out naturally. I've seen alot of really really crappy looking Alucards...

I've seen some with brown hair, with hair that didn't even look like his. It's the same with alot of characters. I can't just assume that somebody's hair is the same color as the character they are cosplaying just because they don't want to dye it. Am I alone on this one?

The issue with using your real hair is, you have to have nice hair. I've seen people with stringy, greasy and/or lack of hair and it just doesn't look very good. And same thing with color ... a lot of people decide they can just use spray-on color and it also looks really bad. You just have to be really meticulous ... people who don't are usually the people you see that are "crappy". Or maybe just have low budget. Or no time. Eh. I'd say just go with whatever option you think is best. For this costume, given the legnth of the hair, going with your regular hair should be fine as long as the cut is close and you dye it the right color. I mostly go with needing wigs if the hair is long or differently colored than mine ... people with long hair regularly, I've noticed, tend to have it look stringy or sparse ...

For wigs ... even though some are very insanely colored (like a bright pink, for instance), with the right items and quality wig, they can look very realistic. And cosplays tend to look really better with a wig. (Example: with wig and without wig.) I generally read about it (since I don't have very much experience with them yet), but spirit gum is used to get rid of the wig line for those with no bangs. (Example: Utena with wig line and Utena with no wig line.) I think the best wig fiber is kanekalon ... supposedly, my wig for Soi Fong was that, since the seller only sold that type when they were in business. I've had friends mistake it for my real hair.

On the topic of wigs, I just got another one recently (see attachment). One guess on who it's for Also, sorry if this post is really confusing. I've been jumping all over the place as I type this and I'm semi distracted.

Misa, the wig looks really good! Also, I know what you mean with the hair texture. I've continued to grow my hair out and even had it cut to grow as closely to Alucard's as it can be (natural). He tends to have 40 billion different hairstyles which makes everything so much more difficult.

I have to say, my hair is driving me crazy, though. It's the longest it's ever been (all around) and I recently had it straightened, so it's getting in my eyes, actually, going past them. So for now, I just have my hair parted to keep from annoying me.

I plan on dying it shortly before the convention, probably a good week or so. That way, it will have faded to a more natural black rather than too black. Hair isn't really my forte, to be honest. I'd much rather be working on the glasses, which I have finally finished.

I just took the easy way out and ordered the gloves. I know, I know. Shame on me...

Thanks I actually got another wig since then (see attached lol). I love it to death. Also having 40 different hair styles seems to make it easier, cause you can choose any one and still be accurate :]

For my normal hair, which I use for AC Tifa bangs, I just gel it a little bit. Run through it for shape, and a bit near the roots so it stays in the right position more readily. Generally its easy for my bangs to go to the side anyway though. Also, be sure you know how to dye it correctly lol ... last minute mess ups can screw things ... up. Haha.

ALSO, GLOVES ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS TO MAKE AND I WISH THEY WOULD DIE. T_T It took me five hours to make one glove, lol. Not a pair, just one of a pair. .__.

EDIT - by the way, if you need me to clarify on something I said just tell me. My brain is messed up thanks to caffeine atm. I hate exams.

Lucky you with the nice hair!

Also, reading your glove adventures makes me even more thankful that I just went and bought a pair (already with the logos). They even have the cuffs, too. I'll post the pictures of them with this.

That wig looks really good, too. I think I could pull it off...maybe throw on some short shorts and one of those 80's high cut off football jerseys and rollerskate around town. haha...

Actually, I'd probably shot as soon as I stepped out of the house...

Sadly for Mr. Complicated (Alucard), I have to figure out how to mess up my hair to look like his. Of course, I pick a character with messy, ungroomed hair. Sounds easy, but nay I tell you. Nay.

Any suggestions there would be awesome. I'll make you cupcakes, though I can't make cupcakes and it would wind up just being an insult to your tastebuds in the long run. It's the thought that counts!

Yeah, had to do it all by hand too. Lol. Also, the wig is supposed to be for Utena ... so I'll be putting on shorts and stabbing people. Which still amounts to the same result of getting shot

I'm not completely sure how exactly it looks messy / ungroomed (things can have diff kinds of messy / ungroomed?! I don't know haha), but there's some women's hairstyles that are made to be 'messy' looking so you might be able to base it off that - even find a tutorial, possibly.

Also, I totally need to lose weight ;___; Haha, college is killing me. SLOOOWLYYY~~

fadofnawpeon!!! I'm dumb! I forgot to post the pictures of the gloves in the last message, so I'll do it here. I'll also post the picture of Alucard's hair so you can see what I mean.

As far as his guns go, there is no way that I'm even going to attempt to recreate those freakin things. I know...I just know that I'll wind up super irritated by them in the long run.

Also...Misa, do you have any galleries of your past cosplays?

Nice. Too bad the markings are not in red though, haha. Also, a lot of people seem to like taking guns and altering them. I know one of my friends had a model gun site where he ordered a pair and spray-painted them for Yuna guns, I'll ask him about it (if he ever responds to me ... he's been busy because he just got to Japan for JET-type program). But yeah...

Haha, for hair you can try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVbosNWT-uQ ?!?!?! Lol kidding. Anyway, I'm horrible at styling hair. But what I would think is, have your hair a little damp, get some gel into your fingers (spread evenly, not in a clump! important ) and then lightly run your fingers across the top of your hair in short bursts, from front to back. If that makes sense? Go for a test run before you shower, haha ... best time for it.

(WARNING. HEAT MELTS YOUR GEL / HAIR SPRAY. Generally cosplayers seem to like to go with Got2B Freeze or something like that.)

And yes, I do have a gallery but I don't have a lot of stuff on it ... most of it's old (gotta clean it out ...) and I don't really have any costumes because I'm mad lazy. 8D;; Hopefully that's changing though. I have a SHITLOAD of costumes planned for next year and I'm ridiculously excited!

Wow! The Tifa outfit looks incredible! You are probably the best Tifa that I've seen so far...no joke!

I got a chuckle out of the Ms. Pyramid Head picture as well. Quite entertaining. I'm also on that site, but I don't have anything up yet. My name over there is belleofthenight.

I can't wait to see what other costumes you've got planned, Misa! Excellent choice cosplaying Tifa!

    Ahah, thanks. A friend in HK made most of the costume for me, but I do hope to remake it on my own eventually ... and more accurate :] Thank you though ~ personally, I REALLY love this girl's Tifa cosplay. http://rain.mods.jp/ SHE IS GORGEOUS. Absolutely, absolutely gorgeous ... I have so much envy lol. But yes ~ Tifa's my most favorite character, EVER ... so it's kind of given that I've got to cosplay her. XD;; . . . . . . I've got three more costumes of her planned, as well. Kukuku. 8D;;

    Also, crack photos are fun ~ unfortunately, they're mostly private inside jokes so I don't really post them. Lol. I was lucky the PH there let me borrow his helmet X3;;

Let me know if you update with any photos! :]

Went to MOODs (I think it was called) in NYC. Amazingly huge fabric store with an excellent selection. It's on 37th between 7th (Fashion Ave) and 8th. Fabric's a pretty important part of a costume ... and generally speaking you should never use satin.

    One part of it:
    http://leonhart.net/life/details.php?image_id=390

Ended up getting the perfect fabric for Ashe's skirt. <3

How's the hair thing working out, Alucard?

The hair thing is getting HOT. It's starting to warm up here and my hair is the longest that it's ever been now. I also just had the suit ordered from Hong Kong. I cheated.

I tried everything on and I'm going to be a little warm in that thing. I'll post pictures of it soon. Plus, I'm having a time with the hat. It's a NIGHTMARE!

I don't have any pictures, but I was Mario in primary school, for a book week thing where we had to dress as our favourite character from a novel, mine was a mario choose your own adventure book oh, and once at a fancy dress party I went as Squall, and not one person there knew who he was. I was all 'Dude Final Fantasy VIII!'. I got called a geek so many times. Until two guys came in with a two man yoshi costume . Saved my butt, they did.

I did cosplay to help a children's hospital halloween party a few times. They all like it, but I haven't done it in a while.

I went as Wolfwood with the huge Punisher Cross from Trigun one year, and as Cloud Strife, KH costume another.

Right now, I have a Vincent costume that I could use if I ever find time to use it.
I don't need much, my hair is already black, my eyes are a dark burgandy/brown, I got the shirt and claw, and I have the bandana and shreaded cloak. The only thing that's missing is the gun...

The first cosplay I ever did was sailior Moon when I was really young, for being so young I actually looked very impressive. But I did it for halloween so that dosen't really count does it?

But the very first cosplay costume I made was Rukia from Bleach. I think I was a very good Rukia. I had to wear this horrible black wig that I will never EVER wear again! Ever! I plan to temp dye my hair, that works so much better. I got alot of pictres taken in my Rukia costume. Im going to be going as her again in Novemeber to the Sagoyacon in Kentucky (Where I live^^) with my three friends. Ones going as soul reaper ichigo, the other as chad and the other as a huge hollow mendis grandes...that costume is the best ever it it HUGE!

But my most recent cosplay was Neji from Naruto. Everyone says I look like him in the face and what not but when I got into costume I must of looked pretty convincing because I got glomped...alot. lol
That was a difficult costume...the coat I just could not make at all. I ordered it online. My hair is mildly long but I needed exstensions which I got then the pants I just nought at a store, the head band was fun to make. I got to make his little straps and whatnot and that was fun. The first day I wore the headband, and my hair was back in the little pnytail thing. Than the next day my hair was down and my buddy Kaley drew his little green 'cursemark' thingy. I really liked it that way, though.
It was funny, because I remember when we left the convention we stopped at McDonalds and everybody looked at me like I was insane. I still had that little mark on my forehead. Plus I was in that puffy coat, lol.
But I enjoyed it. Hey if anyone knows where I can get Quality wigs that don't look like crap please tell me!

  23. #23
Yay cosplay. Alucard, have you done the costume yet?

Working on my own ... crunch time for Otakon. Utena, and hopefully Ashe's gown if I have time (here's to hoping).

I get my wigs on ebay. All three of them so far have been excellent quality. Though the last one was a little expensive (that's because it's from CA though not China). Still awesome, I absolutely love all of them. Just was styling my Ashe wig earlier actually. For the record, dying your hair generally doesn't work very well.

I would cosplay but I don't resemble anyone except Gaara from Naruto. Also costumes are expensive. Do you make the costumes yourselves?

Another problem is that in Malta there are no game shows or anime events.

PS: I like the Tifa cosplay above.

    Cosplay, cosplay..

I've done a few. Plan to do more. My first cosplay was of evil Willow from Buffy. With the veins and stuff.. That was fun indeed.
Also did Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion, but unfortunately I was cheap and had to rent the costume for that ><.
The FFX-2 version of Rikku. [Dad didn't like that one XD]. Unfortunately... I did this in Winter, when nobody should do Rikku cosplay of any sort. I froze. Entirely. I also looked shit with the blonde hair XD. It's... Really not my colour.
I haven't actually cosplayed as Rinoa yet, but I have half the costume. When I get around to it..

I hope to do Fran from FFXII when I have the money to afford it, and I'd also love to do Selphie. I could probably afford that at the moment.. But.. Um.. I'm lazy.

And Millenia from Grandia II. Although.. I might need.. Breast implants XD. Those things're huge.

I've also thought of doing a group Ouran High School Host Club cosplay. That started when I went to a shopping centre and saw a couple of girls dressed as the twins walking around. They looked great. As much as male twins as two female-non twins can look like ><. One of them dates a person that does Kyouya cosplay. Which got me wanting to do one... But I'm not quite sure.

See, doing Haruhi'd be great.. But I look NOTHING like her, and even with the outfit I'd most likely be mistaken for cosplaying as somebody else in the group. Of course.. I could easily do Renge... But honestly... She annoys the shit out of me. So.. Yeah.. No.

Nekozawa's a strong possibility. I have similar-coloured eyes [at times] and the big cloak he wears would easily hide the fact that I'm female XD.

I have costumes of game characters, but most of it has been by chance...

    I have...

Lara Croft; although I don't usually wear the outfit together... I wear the boots a lot because they're warm and help my cold feet and foot-skin disease.

I made some of the costumes myself ... from here on all of them will be selfmade. It's not too bad, it's really fun.

I'm sure you can cosplay Haruhi... just make sure you have the right costume, wig and accessories.

Add pics guys or it never happened ;3

I did Utena, wasn't able to finish Ashe. Have a few photos from Otakon ... I'm still waiting to pick up a photo CD from a photoshoot I did with a friend, but here are some other photos.

I've cosplayed Selphie from FF VIII and Zidane from FF IX, purely from the contents of my wardrobe. I was damn proud of my Zidane costume. It was spiffy. I spent ages French-knitting the tail. XD
As for the future? I'd love to do Rinoa cosplay, considering I'm the right height, and it would be the perfect excuse to dye my hair black. I've also considered Sakura from Naruto.
... Oh, and if it counts, once I wore a pink shirt and did my hair like Ten-ten's, tied a navy blue ribbon around my forehead and went ice-skating. But I doubt that qualifies. >.<

Ok, I don't think I could cosplay....Cos its just against my morals, and nor do I want to be stuff in a close room full of people dressed oddly lol, but I think the very first and last time I cosplay I will be this baby and I think you all know where it comes from =)
