    Anime and live action adaptions

We all know that there are at least two Anime-based films in serious production and this would be the place to list and discuss them.

    List:

Dragonball - Never mind the Z/Zeta, it's almost finished and has a very interesting international cast. Coming out next year.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - The most delayed of the ones on this list. There is art. There is a terrible slug list but it's not quite dead in the water... yet.

Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets - Coming out next year, supposedly. Don't know much else than that.

    Astroboy -Coming out next year?

Hellsing prequel - Coming out either this year or the next. The studio is very happy to be doing so. They DID have a trailer up, but they removed it for unknown reasons.

Battle Angel - Coming out in 2011. Supposedly.

Akira - Coming out next year and it's based on the manga, not the classic film, which was reworked to stand alone. At least one good actor has been attached to it as a director/possible actor, but not much has been shared.

    UPDATES on various projects
Dragonball - It was... okay-ish. Nothing grand, but it didn't suck too bad.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - The most delayed of the ones on this list. There is art. There is a terrible slug script... but it now has a second executive directer: John Woo. Nothing heard since early this year.

Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets - Delayed. Possibly in development hell.

Astroboy -Coming out next year. It's got some pretty big names behind it and it looks excellent.

Hellsing prequel - Most likely a hoax, sadly.

Battle Angel - Still coming out in 2011. Supposedly.

    Akira - Unknown. Possible DH.

I thought that Akira had been confirmed to be cancelled, I'll have to check to make sure on that, but I'm pretty positive it's not happening.
::EDIT:: My mistake. It's also been slated to be released in 2011.

Also, here's another movie you could add to your list:

    Cowboy Bebop.

Yeah, there are plans to do a Live-Action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop with Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel. Keanu Reeves. As. Spike Spiegel.

Not exactly my first choice for that character I can tell you that much...

Anyway it's supposed to be released in 2011. Other than that, I haven't heard much about this movie.

The IMAGI CG Film is delayed, there's another Live Action film being made, but no production has started just yet.

The same company just released a very popular movie based off Yatterman. Seeing it myself, I have to say it's quite enjoyable. An Orgasming Robot was a bit much for me, but it's way more true to the Anime than Dragonball Evolution was.

Apparently one of Spielbergs studios is working on a live action adaption of ghost in the shell as well as a live action remake of oldboy based on the original manga. Apparently with Will Smith as the protagonist.

Am I the only person pissed off that Hollywood is trying to ruin these great mangas/animes. No one has the right to even touch the likes of Akira, Cowboy Bebop etc.

No, you're not the only one. I hate those live action movies. <-<"
I already heard that Hollywood wanted to make a Death Note movie. I mean, what is that? Death Note? T^T Why this great anime??? Wasn't it enough to ruin Dragon Ball? Isn't it enough that they will ruin Cowboy Bebop? (Keanu Reeves = oh.my.god.NO!)
I won't watch any of those movies. *shivers*

    It's a drama series, not a movie.

Oh, I also forgot there's a live action drama series of Shinigami no Ballad as well.

While I've yet to see "L- Change the World," I thought the first two Death Note movies adapted the series as well as two movies could do for a series so much longer. For one, it helped me get a very decidedly anti-anime friend of mine to watch the anime, which, to me, is the sign of a successful adaptation.

Also, while not a movie, the live-action GTO series is phenomenal. I've never gotten around to buying the movie, but I loved every episode of the drama. It had me in tears more than once!

I'm also looking forward to watching the live-action trilogy of 20th Century Boy films, though I'm holding off for now, as I've only read six volumes of the manga and I don't want to spoil the original series by watching the movies before I know all of what's going on, as there's bound to be cuts in a trilogy of movies adapting 20 or so volumes of manga.

Lastly, I've been equally anticipating and dreading the live-action Evangelion adaptation for years, but the Cowboy Bebop movie seems to be more suited for Hollywood treatment than Evangelion would be. I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope for the best!

The Cowboy Bebop adaptation is probably going to suck. Keanu Reeves at the moment is probably the most wooden actor ive seen. And Yoko Kanno probably wont be doing the soundtrack which would give the adaptation a different feel. Which is bad.

The Ghost in the Shell adaptation as a movie probably wont be too bad but the convuluted storyline will probably be too much for mainstream audiences to handle. Its going to bomb at the box office.
