This it the first Final Fantasy I've been excited to play in a very long time. I like that it looks like it has successfully merged the Final Fantasy name with action oriented gameplay. Something that the original XIII trailers, to me, hinted at.
While not giving out any new details on FFXV in a presentation or event, Square Enix still had a new trailer for the game. The trailer is still mostly old content from the E3 trailer, but they slid in a few new scenes. Most of the new details will come from the interview Nomura is having during TGS.

The reason for the combat has a lot to do with the fact that the Kingdom Hearts team is developing this game. It's not straight up KH combat, but it is definitely an action RPG now rather than the traditional turn-base combat the series has been known for.

FFXII was a little more MMO inspired, felt a like FFXI at times. Most of what Square has been doing in the last few games has been lifting some of the normal restriction in battle while keeping them turn-based. It is probably why it felt like they were going in the action RPG direction, but even FFXIII is still firmly rooted in the turn-based system that they've always had. It'll be interesting how people feel about the change.

I'm definitely looking forward to this game. I've been waiting on it for 7 years now. It's a little depressing I have to wait another year or two, but it'll be worth it I think.

The game went off the radar for a while with only promises that it was not canceled. So it is only natural that it was going to be a little forgotten.

They didn't really give much of a reason for it. I think a lot of it came down to the game getting further away from the XIII mythology that they felt it should just be it's own game.

I would think they never 'planned' on having XIII-2 so there wasn't room in their mythos/story for whatever is to transpire in XV (game formerly known as Versus XIII or whatever). But I swear to god, if they do a direct sequel to XV, and it turns out like XIII-2's storyling, I will shank-a-bitch at Squenix.

There is a difference of being part of the story and making use of the same mythology. Final Fantasy Versus XIII was never going to be connected to FFXIII by story means. It was only going to use the terms l'Cie, fal'Cie and mythology created and use it in the completely separate story of FFvXIII. But I think as Versus' story developed it probably departed from that mythology they were using enough it was no longer the same mythology anymore. Just speculation at this point, since they haven't said anything.

I am very wary of looking forward to any game too much these days (After finishing the story line in GTA V I just can't go back, it is too hollow and uninspiring to me) so I will be cautious, but I have liked what I have seen so far. Especially the Shakespear references and influence.
