Classical music like Beethoven and Mozart helps. And of course Country music helps what I am feeling all lovey-dovey or humorous (Comedy).
As the topic says, what type of music helps you to relax?
Does listening to this music make you feel better when you're feeling sick or depressed, or help you go to sleep?
For me it's enka music. If I listen to it when I feel sick it helps settle my stomach, but I really have no idea why. Any other music I'd listen to while feeling sick would just make me feel worse.
Does anyone else have this happen to them?

Pretty much any type helps me relax, but usually it's just rock that work more for me. There are times of course where others like classical and country will help, but it's usually just rock.

I'm addicted to music. I cannot go one day without listening to it. I listen to pretty much any typre of music. You'll probably hear me listening to hard rock mainly or some rap. Sinister and Froggie has gotten me into some goth music as of lately (i.e. Emilie Autumn, ThouShaltNot, Nine Inch Nails, and a few others) and that helps me relax.
If I want to relax and chill and get into another state, I'll just listen to my lighter music.
Music such as most of that by Nirvana...
If I really want to laze around breathing more slowly than a stoned out pacifistic hippy, I'll light up some Dragon's Blood incense and then listen to some acoustic versions of Nirvana songs...
That stuff's insane...

It depends, I guess. On how exactly I want to relax. It often involves several different types of music, though. Often I'll put on some rock [Nickeback, Foo Fighters, etc]. Something plain and simple and loud, generally, that I can sing along to. I'll just sing loud as possible and get everything out.
Other times I like to dance, which is different again. Scarily enough, I actually learnt to dance to Britney Spears XD. [I took striptease/lapdancing lessons as a joke a few years ago] and own her greatest hits compilation. So sometimes I'll whack some of that on. Although I've been getting into contemporary dance lately, so I've been using Emilie Autumns "Laced/Unlaced" [all entirely instrumental, electric and baroque violin] for that lately.
To just relax and chill out and get some sleep it's Emilie Autumn at the moment also, but her Enchant Era stuff. Some of it's absolutely beautiful and melodic. I LOVE it.
I've been on this site since 2006 woah
Much like Vampiric it depends on entirely why i need to be relaxing in the first place XD. If its love related then i really don't need to be listening to sappy love songs or stuff like that haha. Mostly i just throw on a CD i made a few weeks ago with stuff like Foo Fighters, Incubus and Three Doors Down on... basically not stuff that's too heavy or i'll end up with a headache before i'm in a relaxed state .
On the other hand if i'm annoyed by something i'll throw some Pantera or some of the older Metallica albums on and it'll sort things out pretty quickly.
Most Incubus albums are pretty relaxing to me, so they're always a good start when i'm stressed about something and need to chill
i listen to faith no more when i wanna calm down the lyrics are so deeo either that or the smashing pumpkins
Wu Tang Killa Bee's, We On The Storm.
I listen to almost anything I own to relax. Most of it to me is relaxing since I know and like it anyway. The only stuff that doesn't relax me is stuff like Megadeth or Ozzy seeing as the guitar's kinda intense and then my mind gets started on thinking about that. So yeah Beatles, Beethoven, Who, Franz Ferdinand, and a hundred other people all are good by me.
The type of music I'll use depends on how much I need to relax (like if I was steamed earlier or depressed). Usually, I end up listening to rock, alternative, or pop. Basically, the music I own. I only relax if I know the melody, lyrics and can sing along.
If I was in a bloody rage, I'll end up turning on the radio to rap for some reason, and when I'm more calm, I'll move on to my usual rock and such.
Music doesn't help me much when I've got a stomach ache, but it does wonders for a headache or wacky feelings.
What Fishie said...
But yea, for relaxing... Well there's Depeche Mode...Hungry Lucy...The Cure...Modest Mouse...Voltaire...Queen...Pixies...ThouShaltNot.. .Rasputina...Fields of Nephilim...Dead Can Dance...Cocteau Twins...Enya(my roommate got me listening to her...)The Shroud...Faith and the Muse...Charlie Parker...most any Classical music with Franz Lizst, Rameau, Motzart, Beethoven, Villa-Lobos and Gershwin.
That's just a few but you get the idea...just keep going with it and you'll get there.

Iron and Wine is good for relaxing, too.
Bjork, Catatonia, Katatonia, Agalloch, Opeth... they're all good ones, too. I do like some Akira Yamaoka, definately. Excellent ambience, instrumentals and piano pieces... Really easy to kick off and relax to. Although some of Yamaoka's pieces can have the reverse effect so it's sensible to skip the tracks you know will scare the shit out of you... Hmm.

For me, something light and medolic, like some of the quieter songs of Bloc Party, Stereophonics, Patrick Wolf, Depeche Mode, The Levellers, and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. seem to help me to chill, although being a genrally relaxed person I turn to music as something more of a hobby than a tool. I don't tend to specifically search out "relaxing" CDs as pretty much all of the music I listen to I can listen to whatever mood i'm in. Most of my music is British alternative, "indie" rock, although I do have some heavier rock which I listen to if i'm trying to relax through frustration or in one of my normal uncatogorisable moods. If i'm trying to focus my mind on to studying though, for some reason nothing beats Final Fantasy music.

I forgot to mention the likes of Keane, K.T Tunstall and Nest...
Keane's newer album sounds pretty depressing, but it's slow, so it's good to chill out to... K.T's older album has some good tracks on it, although I disliked the ones she released as singles... and Nest? I don't expect any of you to know of their music, but they're very Earthy instrumental artists.

Like a lot of other people said it depends why I need relaxing in the first place.
But usually some good Jpop will help as it is very pretty and has nice lyrics =]
Artists like Utada Hikaru, BoA Kwon and Ayumi Hamasaki all have sweet songs that can relax me.
hmmm what relaxes me is some j-rock...im saying this mostly is cause im a junkie of it...but yeah ...old school Japanese flutes...with the whole water rain.bamboo clunky water fountain thing on tape is also a must for relaxation...but usly some alice nine,Heidi ,Rentor en soi or some malice mizer will relax me when im in a lazy mood
I usually listen to classic rock to relax, especially Guns n' Roses! There are also a few others I like to listen to relax: Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Skid Row, Queen and many more. Some music makes me feel worse about things when I listen to it but usually the classic rock soothes me.
Classical music mainly, and trance (although trance is something I would rather listen to when going out). Though I did once live with a girl who enjoyed listening to the songs of Humpback, Orca and Blue whales (wonderful animals). Felt like I was living in an ocean half the time, but it was fairly relaxing.

Enlighten Me
I like listening to jazz and video game music it helps me relax alot
Mostly Doom Metal these days, normally I put on some old Black Sabbath but lately I've been listening to a fair bit of stuff like Witchfinder General, Candlemass and a bit of Pentagram.
Also a lot of Classical as well, Vivaldi's summer pieces are real nice when the mood is hot, I don't like the heat most of the time but I remembered it was real hot one time so I put it on and it just made me feel much better.
Really it depends on whats happened, like when I am stressed and can't think straight I normally but on some ambience stuff like Dargaard or DvKE but when I've gotten angry I might put on some thrash metal. Changes, nothing to specific really.
Uhmm difficult one, I really don't listen to music to relax, just
when I'm in the mood for something or when I want to be
happy. Audioslave makes me happy.
Kate Bush makes me relax perhaps? No, it makes me happy..
Hmm..
My TFF Family it!
Savior of the Damned is my little brother!
Sir Alex Ferguson is my awesome brother!
I dozed off listening to an R 'n' B record which happened to be on the radio this evening. Though generally I listen to spoken word stuff (namely radio comedy series) when I need noise to get to sleep, though I can fall asleep to anything, really.
Ok, well. I find listening to gospel music or classical music, calms me down.
Instrumental music, I find, is magical.
it really depends, if im trying to relaxe then i often listen to jazz, most likely dizzy gallespi or perhaps jeff lorber.
but im trying to focus or get work done then even that depends on what im doing specificaly. if im typing a paper then i mostly listen to acoustic work usually by either anberlin or perhaps soundre lechre. but if i am doing manual labor songs than alot more up beat faster pased heavier songs would deffinatly help me get the work done.

Hmm. Queen because I've been brought up listening to them my entire life...
A Night at the Opera soothes me.
Oh and I listen to a lot of... well I guess you'd call it indie-chillout/singer-songwriters.
David Gray, KT Tunstall, James Morrison, Rufus Wainwright, Vanessa Carlton. They make me relax bigtime. Oh and anything played on a Mini Royal.
Sometimes I do listen to classical music, it helps.
But, as I usually listen to Queen, I listen some of their greatest albums...
MeLLow musics such as the songs from WestLife heLps me reLax and aLso the songs from the divas Like whitney Houston, ceLine Dion.. etc.
ONE of my personal fav's is by Glenn Danzig and is titled Black Aria, and is his only "classical-type" album. It is really on the goth side, but is really awesome and it really helps me to relax and at times even fall to sleep.
