Comparing Guns 'N Roses to Nirvana is like comparing Black Sabbath to Britney Spears. Not the same music at all. But for what its worth a prefer Nirvana. Not that Guns 'N Roses is bad.
Spit out your stride gum and chew another piece already... or I'll haunt you.
I prefer Nirvana as well. More my style of music. I do like a few Guns N Roses songs, but I never got into them. Think that Axl is kinda a dick, from all I've heard. Btw, anyone remember this?:
(Towards the end of the second video is what I'm talking about.) Anyhoo...

exactly. GNR is a different kind of rock. It's more so oldies now. Wow....I'm 24...Can't believe I consider that old. Anyways, Nirvana was a bit more grunge rock. They were newer, younger, and a tad more hip....oh crap I used the word HIP. ok I said my piece. ;-) I love em BOTH. Nirvana a little more though. I'm a 90's kind of gal. ;-)
Neither of them at all. Guns n Roses has female abusive songs and Nirvana is just not my style. I prefer Nobou Uematsu's music as well as Classical etc.
Much bigger fan of GnR than Nirvana. Cobain was so freakin whiny and his death was a major proponent of the bands fame. Though, to be fair, if Cobain didn't eat his shotgun, the Foo Fighters wouldn't be around, and I do love the Foo Fighters. Overall, Nirvana is overrated. They were good, but not legendary to the point that people see them. It's a very FFVII type of deal actually. I think I hate them for the fanboys.
GnR was just your typical good time rock. Songs like Paradise City and Sweet Child O Mine are just fun to blast from your car, and to sing along to. Nirvana is more of a downer, and today, there's enough shit to be sad about.
For grunge, see Pearl Jam.

I'd definitely say Nirvana. I used to like Guns N Roses, but their song do my head in now.
Nirvana is a band I have liked since I started getting into music, but I will agree they have become a tad overrated. It's a shame, but that's how it has gone.
Also, to agree with Pete's above statement, for Grunge, Pearl Jam are the kings.
I'll call it a draw, both have few songs I like, but that's about it.

Y'know, I've never cared for Pearl Jam, either. I don't like Eddie Vedder's style of singing, and their most popular songs seem to be of the slow and plodding variety that I can't stand, and that got really popular in the late 90's-early 00's. (I've compared it to a large, overweight man stumbling over his own feet.) Looking around on youtube, I found a couple faster songs that I kinda like, though. Maybe I should give them another try.
...and I still like Nirvana better than GnR, lalala... Anyhoo...

I only listen to bands that have less then 100 fans.

^ If I hadn't repped you at some other point, that would be a repable post.
Anyway, is this really a fair contest? GNR and Nirvana are completely different bands playing different music for different audiences. I'm not sure if it's all that fair but hey, what is? Right?
I cast my vote for Nirvana.
I really don't like TOO much Classic Rock and GNR just fits the type of bands I don't like too much. (Please don't hate folks, just an opinion)
Can we open a grunge thread? I will don forum-plaid.
Guns and Roses gross me out. Axl Rose grosses me out especially. In fact, if I ever wanted to make my ex-girlfriend shudder, I'd just mention Fabio and Axl Rose.
Urban myth: Axl Rose >>rearrange>> Oral Sex
Nirvana for me. A fundamental band of the grunge scene. I always feel bad for Sonic Youth though. Sonic Youth spotted Nirvana in their days of being on a indie label, and pressured Geffen (DGC) to sign them. Which they did, and then stood by as Nirvana eclipsed their own fame.

They're both good in my opinion, but GnR have faded slightly after i listened to their recent efforts.
Speaking of fanboys, when i lent my Nevermind CD to a friend a couple years ago he became obsessed with Nirvana and Cobain. He grew out his hair to mimic him and when he got a chance he'd watch Nirvana concert's online for hours and whenever we had classes together he'd tell me how to play some random chord from Smells like Teen Spirit or Come As You Are. It wasnt that bad but when i heard the same thing every day it kind of put me off them too.

That's pretty much my problem with them. They're an alright band, but for whatever reason, there's so much mysticism and like a cult surrounding them. I understand that Nevermind is one of the most influential albums ever, but at the same time, people talk about Cobain like he's a god.
Also, the main difference between GnR and Nirvana is that the styles are pretty much the exact opposites. And for the record, the new GnR with Chinese Democracy doesn't count; I'm talking the 80s and early 90s here.
GnR was very elaborate and ever flamboyant at times, with ridiculous solos and long ass songs... some of which were truly over the top and actually hurt the songs. Look and Civil War and November Rain. They both suffered from what Avatar did; there was a definite end to the song, where if it had ended there, the song would have been amazing... and then they just went on for another 3 minutes and ruined it. Was it good stuff? Sure, the quality wasn't bad, but it was so unnecessary. Maiden was very similar, but with much less of a grimey feel to them, and Poison was incredibly grimey, but you knew they were just fun. Axl seemed legitimately sketchy.
Nirvana was the exact opposite. Very short, raw and simple. Nothing wrong with that, just not my style. Cobain's raw emotion comes off as whiny, and I don't do whiny. I'm cool with flannel though.

I have never been a big GNR fan. There was a few of their songs that I could tolerate. Then Chinese Democracy came out, and I realized that this band was f*cking aweful. That whole album was crap. Should of gave up a long time ago.
As for Nirvana I am a big fan, but I will admit that they are a tad bit overrated. I'd say that Kurt's death may have been a huge factor in this. As mentioned though if things hadn't happened the way they did Grohl might not have started Foo Fighters, and damn near everyone loves them.
The only Pearl song I can even really stand is Jeremy. Other than that I don't really listen to em' that much.
GNR, definitely GNR.
Axl's a ****, that's pretty much indisputable fact. As a person, there are few performers I could say I hate more than Axl Rose (I mean seriously, the guy regularly stops concerts to bitch at the audience, that's just one of the many examples of his extremely poor showmanship), but as a singer, he's pretty good. Vocals aren't usually what I pay attention to in music though, all about the instrumentals for me. By no means is Slash the greatest guitarist ever, or a techniclal God, but he sounds damn good, and that's all that really matters. Hell, I listen to Velvet Revolver just for Slash. Post Slash, GNR's started to suck pretty hard. What moron gets ****ing Buckethead, one of the best damn guitarists alive, and puts him on rythym to give lead to a hack like Brain? It makes little sense to me. They're still alright, but I'll take Slash era GNR over the new shit any day.
Nirvana, to be perfectly honest I can't stand. I really don't get why people like Nirvana so much. Except for one, maybe two songs of theirs, they all just sound really bland and boring to me. Cobain wasn't really anything special, and nobody really cared about the guy until he died, which I suppose isn't suprising, because that happens with alot of artists. But then I suppose one could call me biased, I'm not really into grunge at all outside of Pearl Jam.

Well this is a tough question coz I love them both but I think I'll choose Nirvana coz their songs just have something that always make me feel better from any kind of tension or depression.
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.
I much prefer G 'n' R. They have so much more energy to their music than Nirvana. Not to say I don't like Nirvana.

I prefer Nirvana, their music is more my style.

It should be obvious. Kurt Cobain's on my avatar. You don't see Axl Rose there, do you? Nirvana.
They're original and from what I've heard of Guns, their more famous songs are covers of other artists' songs. Can't they be a little more original? Not saying ALL their popular songs are covers, but Knocking on Heaven's Door is. Live and Let Die is. Not sure about the others. Never checked into that.
Oh, and I can't stand Axl's voice.

I think both bands are pretty good in their own ways

I'm not huge on either. They both have some songs I like but wouldn't call myself a true "Fan" of either.
maybe a g'n'r and motley crue would be better lol or nirvana and pearl jam but both bands are amazing g'n'r appetite changed my life still one of the best debuts ever and the whole nirvana catalog is good except that terribly over priced box set but i just don't see a clear winner here
