    I like metal

Daath, Amon Amarth, Dimmu Borgir. My friend manages 2 local bands, but I haven't had a chance to check them out. I don't have the means or a computer to listen to new stuff, but when I do I'll check out your suggestions. I'm not a hardcore metal fan, but I do enjoy it.

I'm into older metal, such as Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Pantera etc. I used to be a huge fan of metal, listening to all the sub genres or whatever. I still enjoy it though, but I'm not an avid listener like I used to be.

    BIIIG Death-metalhead here.

I personally enjoy Arch Enemy (I pre-ordered Khaos Legions, it's epic BTW,) and Amon Amarth, although I also like the Old-school and other bands like System of a Down, Dope, and WASP. but in my opinion, the ultimate band is Alice Cooper!

I would consider myself a huge metalhead but my interest has sort of waned as of late. At least I still look the part though. I got pretty much into everything(melodic death is my favourite sub genre) apart from the sh*t which was considered trendy.

I still retain some love for the music though. Am getting extremely pumped about the new Machine Head album.

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

Does Gothic/Symphonic Metal count, if so I'm in...

I got into Gothic Metal while going through my brothers music collection, Nightwish was responsible for it to be more precise. Within Temptation was one of my favorite bands way before that, though I never really cared for an entire genre til that moment. Those bands aside I also listen to We Are The Fallen, Epica, Evanescence, Skillet, Xandria as of late, quite a few more, though not nearly as those I mentioned.

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

Yeah im more into the older stuff like Metallica and Iron Maiden. I occasionally listen to Nightwish but as i've said Maiden's more of my cuppa. I've never been into death metal or anything of the likes. One of my friends really liked it and he got me to listen to some of his favourites but to me they kinda all sound the same which is probably quite ignorent but hey thats my opinion

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

I listen to metal on occasion. However, unlike many of the other people who posted in this thread before me, I listen to good metal, where the people in the bands can actually play their instruments, write good songs, and sing decently enough.

My favorite metal band has been making good music for 36 years. A band called Motorhead. I also like bands such as Megadeth, early Helloween, excluding the Michael Kiske years, Overkill, and the strangely eccentric Dream Theater.

There aren't that many good metal bands. The metal genre of music sucks, except for a handful of bands. The same can be said for essentially every other type of music. People like to make shit popular so that more shitty musicians will release more shit that more shitty people will appreciate.

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

Been a headbanger as long as I can remember. Mainly into stuff older than I am, Ozzy, Dio, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc. Also big symphonic and power metal, Nightwish, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Serenity, Delain, Tarot, Charon, lot of bands alot of people have probably never heard of, Hell I even like Dragonforce. Some melodeath. Mainly I like the music itself, I don't like it when songs focus too heavily on the vocals, I need me some psychotic, yet melodic shredding. Screaming and growling I'm not crazy about, but most of the stuff I listen to that has it, I don't even pay attention to it with, because I'm busy air guitaring adnd headbanging. Or learning it on a real gutar (usually still headbanging), depending on how lazy I feel. On that note I also like alot of intrumetal metal, Rusty Cooley, Michael Angelo Batio, Jeff Loomis, all the other crazy shredders. Lately I've been listening to alot of Scar Symmetry, epic band.

Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Hmm I'd agree with Eastwood there regarding recent metal. It has changed a lot, and it wouldnt just be my thing (opeth meshugga BFMV ...ETC..)
But there is one present band that I really admire, that can be classed as metal, and thats Mastodon.. those lads are talented, big time... their stuff is excellent.

I like me some old school stuff like Slayer, PanterA.

I love me some death metal like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Bolt Thrower, Nile, and Barnes-era Cannibal Corpse.

Also listen to Doom/Sludge/Black Metal in small increments. Also looking for good Hardcore in the vein of Hatebreed or Madball.

Oh boy. I'm quite partial to most all metal, however I'm disappointed by some metal pretenders, like scene-core or whatever it's called. Some of my favourites have already been mentioned but I'll re-type them anyway
Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Annihilator, Dethklok, Judas Priest, Dream Theater, Heidvolk, Born of Osiris, System of a Down, Pantera, Slayer, and I'll edit as I recall more.

i use to love all kinds of metal, it was all I was into. Now I really dont care about it that much. I listen to what sounds good. I would still listen to Pantera, Ozzy osbournce, Black Label Society, sky eats airplane and very select few songs from slayer. Gone are the days of arch enemy etc, just cant stand it anymore.

Recently my playlist consists of piano renditions of final fantasy music and cypress hill.

My favourite bands are...... Matellica, Black Sabbath, Cradle of Filth, Exodus and AC/DC (I'm not sure if they sing hevy metal).

Blasphemy, Keeper of the Seven Keys 1&2 are classics.

Metal is my favorite genre of music. I've gone through many phases with it, but my two favorite sub-genres are power metal and stoner doom. My favorite bands include Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Galneryus, Electric Wizard, Behemoth, Lykathea Aflame, Elveitie, Devil Doll, Emperor, Vintersorg, Diabolical Masquerade, and Protest the Hero.

I go to as many metal shows in my area as I can. The last show I saw was Mayhem (because I don't think Trans-Siberian Orchestra counts) with Keep of Kalessin. In the last year I've also great acts like Sleep, Boris, Blind Guardian, Protest the Hero, As I Lay Dying, Alestorm, Powerglove, Symphony X, and Turisas.

Seems like everyone in this topic is into either the classic thrash bands that are all old and feeble by now or stuff that is technically more hard rock than it is metal. If you guys like heavy music you should expand your tastes a bit. Good metal takes some digging to find, but it's very much worth it!

I'm mostly into Classic Metal, Power Metal, and Gothenburg Metal. Been wanting to try some Black Metal on for size, but haven't found a band yet for me.
And so now it comes to pass
    By the eventide on mass
    See them gather yet alas
They remain still as stained class

For they know only too well
That the story they will tell
    Conjures up an ageless spell
    Guarded by the sentinel

    So it goes forevermore
    Ever steady to the core
That the sign that they came for
    Waves majestic from the floor

I don't listen to as much as I used to but when I do I still listen to a fair bit of Traditional Doom Metal such as Candlemass, Pagan Alter and of course Black Sabbath.

Though you can't really call it Metal, King Crimson is amazing.

    Currently listening to Gorath.

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

I recently tried to get into Doom Metal but it was a bit too slow for me. Anybody got some Doom bands to suggest? I mainly dabble in power, symphonic, folk, viking and PIRATE. lol

Lately my ears have tuned into: Persuader, Stormwarrior, Derdian, Galneryus, and Vision Divine.

Other bands I listen to are:

    Rhapsody of Fire
    Luca Turilli
    Highlord
    Domine
    Ensiferum
    Alestorm
    Elvenking
    Iron Mask
    Dragonforce
    Magic Kingdom
    Crom
Dionysus.... to name a few. Been expanding lately too. Finding new bands or getting cds that I dont' have of bands I'm established with.

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

I recently tried to get into Doom Metal but it was a bit too slow for me. Anybody got some Doom bands to suggest?
Don't know what you've listened to before, but I consider doom to be one of my specialties. I actually don't like the straight doom bands like Candlemass and Draconian, but as far as stoner or drone acts go, I suggest you start with Electric Wizard and Reverend Bizarre. Both are phenomenal acts. Past that, I like Bongripper, Weedeater, Sleep, Ufomammut, Bongzilla, Boris (try the albums Akuma no Uta, Heavy Rocks, and Pink since a lot of their work is ambient and very niche), and Om. The point of doom is to be slow, so I don't know if you'd like any of them. I personally love the way the bands take a while to build something up and then hit you like a tidal wave with a wall of crushing slow riffs. Om's At Giza is 16 minutes long and doesn't kick in until after the 13 minute mark.

I'm going to check out some of the bands you listed because your artists mostly fall into either the category of "I ****ing love them" or "I've never heard of them." Persuader, Stormwarrior, and Galneryus are some of my favorite acts. Don't know how much metal you listen to, but I've got some suggestions for you that I feel directly represent your taste.

Wintersun - formed by the original vocal/guitar player for Ensiferum.
Eluveitie - Fantastic folk band that is unfortunately not very well known (but on par musically to Finntroll and Korpiklaani)
Fairyland - Very similar to Rhapsody and just as good
Forefather - "viking metal" is a tricky term because it means different things to different people, but these guys represent the purest definition as well as early Vintersorg.

    And then straight forward:
Gamma Ray, Edguy, Dragonland, Lost Horizon, Kalmah (harsh power metal)

because you like power metal and they are a few more of my favorite power metal bands.

On the subject, I recently chose not to go see Symphony X with Iced Earth because I haven't liked anything Iced Earth has released since Horror Show (with the exception of the Gettysburg trilogy) and I've seen Symphony X 3 times but still haven't gotten their newest album. I will be seeing Protest the Hero again for the second time and am STOKED, and after that is the almighty Sabaton. I wish there were more sick shows coming up in the next few months, but I can't complain about those two.

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

I do think I'm like my metal to be fast or faster than Doom Metal, but there can be one band that I eventually may like. For example I'm not a big fan of harsh lyrics, but Ensiferum and the few songs that Rhapsody of Fire have done were able to make it so I like them.

I have listened a little bit to Eluveitie and thinking about getting some of their stuff. I do have a couple of Fairyland's cds - Of Wars in Osyrhia and Score to a New Beginning. And I got three cds of Dragonland.

I'll check out those bands you mentioned. Both Doom and Power. See what's up with them.

Speaking of Symphony X I need to check them out along with Kamelot. Two big U.S power metal groups I haven't really listened to before. Oh and I need to check out Helloween. With Luca Turilli being inspired by them and Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. 1 and 2 being considered power metal classics they are due a listen.

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

You really can't go wrong with any Symphony X. My favorite two Kamelot albums are Epica and The Black Halo. I recently saw both of them live, actually. Powerglove opened for Symphony X and were hilarious, and Alestorm opened for Kamelot and were equally funny. And of course that show was right after Roy Khan quit Kamelot so the Rhapsody singer replaced him. Fabio Lionheart I believe? Sounds like a porn name.

The Keeper albums are definitely great and actually, although the style has changed drastically (due to almost a complete line up change), their new album Gambling with the Devil is very good and I think they released another one since then that's supposed to be awesome as well.

    Re: Calling all METALHEADS.

I'm not a fan of any type of metal other than symphonic and gothic metal, which are my favorite musical genres. I prefer lead female vocals, but not in the operatic sense like Tarja, which is why I'm one of those people who prefer Nightwish's "new era." Imaginaerum, by the way, is what I think is their best album yet, particularly Last Ride of the Day.

For a long time, Delain has been one of my absolute favorites. Charlotte has a completely mesmerizing voice, though I will admit that April Rain sounded a tad more mainstream, I guess, than Lucidity. From some of the titles in their new album (and the cover itself), I'm starting to have bad feelings about the direction they're taking, but whatever it is, I'll still have my hopes up. I hear they're going to use orchestras in their new album; I'm really looking forward to that.

Without long explanations, some other bands that are my favorites are: Within Temptation, Xandria, Epica, ReVamp (I've been listening to some After Forever stuff since it, too; Floor is absolutely incredible as a singer), and Sirenia (I liked Nine Destinies and a Downfall most), among others.

When it comes to metal I'm a fan of the prog side of things. Bands like Coheed and Cambria, although you could argue that whilst their first two albums were more prog, the last three have been more metal. In general I'm more of a punk/pop punk fan.

Blasphemy! You clearly haven't heard Iced Earth's new album. It is the probably the best since Burnt Offerings. Stu Block is an amazing vocalist! Then again, I thought Ripper Owens was great too, and his new band, Charred Walls of the Damned, founded by ex-Iced Earth drummer Richard Christy, is EPIC.
