Why are the ff mmos so confusing to get

In Ffxi I couldn't even get in the game!
The play online system confused the hell out of me
Then eventually I got the client, registered and subbed

And when I went to login it's said my names incorrect
But all my user name was a series of numbers
Then I lost it and they continued to charge me monthly and I couldn't login cus I didn't know my user I'd number!!
Had to cancel my debit card :s

Checked out ff14 website few months back and I couldn't even see where to digitally purchase the game or download the client. I hear it's f2p now? Serious, the official website is nothing but a pic of some characters!

Square games used to have so much quality
Nowadays idk what they running with, was super disappointed with ff7 re release, but no complaints for 10$

But yeah if anyone can clear this up for me that would be hot

FFXIV used to be free to play, but that was before the start of the year. It is subscription based again because they finally started updating the game it bring it to the proper state.

There was a lot of things to go through in FFXI, but it was pretty straightforward. I never had any problems with it on the PS2 or PC. So I can't really speak about it being confusing.

The official site has information on the game and world. It is not a huge amount of info, but there is still quite a bit in there on the jobs, locations and system.

I haven't played FFXIV yet because after the failed launch I held off until they improved the game. I was also waiting for the PS3 version. The new version of FFXIV is going to be released in a couple months, you may want to wait until they release that to jump in to the game. All of the major overhauls will have been done by that point.

You can get digital copies from places like Amazon. Doing a google search revealed quite a few options.

You can get the game from Amazon for $20 bucks with a free month of play.

The game is better than the launch. Obviously after many patches.
I personally still don't think its great.
The gameplay is over complicated, I mean its not terrible (well some parts are), but its not that great.
Like having to open the journal every time to recheck what you are suppose to do. Its just an unnecessary step. I'm okay with not having an arrow point me to exactly where I'm suppose to go, but there were several times that I've had to Google how to get somewhere. Like it was literally an area that was inside of an area and because of that it didn't show on the map.
Another thing is that gameplay is dreadfully slow. I understand that FF's in general never had fast action paced gameplay and neither do MMO's for the most part. But this is a just a step to far. Casting times for the abilities are just ugh....

Some pros about the game are that:
Its a beautiful game, if you have the computer to power it. I mean it puts almost any other MMO to shame, the closest I can think of graphically is TERA, but thats still not a very good comparison.
The MMO is story driven. No MMO I've played was able to keep me entertained lore wise. WoW specifically was just...... boooorrrriiiinnnngggg and I love to read WoW lore all the time on its wikia. Being story driven it makes grinding to higher levels not that much of a bore.
I liked the soundtrack, what I heard of it, I only got to like level 10.
