When you start playing you have 2 leveling systems going on at the same time. You have a Rank of your class/job which you get skill points to level, and a Physical level which you get experience to level.
Gaining a class rank gives you abilities and skill points, each ability cost so many skill points to put on your bar. For example I'm a rank 1 archer with 3 skill points, I have Puncture a special skill that cost 3 skill points to equip it to my action bar. I also have shadow bind that cost 3 ability point to equip to my bar. Since I am only rank 1 I can only equip one action at a time. Meaning I have to choose which skills I want to battle with. You dont just get to use everything you have learned. You can switch skills in and out while you are out of combat, but once you start a fight you are stuck. I didnt know this for a while, but most skills from classes can be mixed and mashed. Meaning I can put spells I have learned from my DoM on my bar while playing a DoW. You still need the skill points to equip them but mixing skills from different Jobs is very important in creating a strong character.
Physical levels give you Attribute and elemental points. The attribute points cover your physical traits,
Strength (STR)– physical attack power.
Vitality (VIT) – physical defense. and health
Dexterity (DEX) – attack accuracy.
Intelligence (INT) – magical attack power.
Mind (MND) – magical defense. and Mana
Piety (PIE) – magical accuracy.
While I havent learned what Elemental points are for I can update this. Not sure if they make spells stronger in each area, or if its just defense.
Another reason to level different Jobs is the experience you get. Here is a video explaining it.

I will update more info as I read about it and find it out. Most of the credit goes to other community sites or people I play with since I am really just learning.
