FFXIV Alpha Updates

The alpha testing for FFXIV continues and producer Naoki Yoshida is providing updates on how the testing is going. The alpha tests he said are working on stressing the servers. Previously, he said that they were able to get about 800 people in a single area before lag increased significantly. In the current testing, they were able to get 5000 connections/players into the server across the areas of the game.

Currently, 1000 players are allowed into a single area. He said that they can have 300-400 players changing areas at once. He also said that the patch server is handling the high concentration of traffic and enemies are spawning and despawning correctly even in high levels of lag. He also said specific hardware is crashing the client.

Another part of the test, he said was having the players play the game as they normally would and watch how their play styles affect the game and where players travel. He also said that the testing is running smoothly with them moving into the fourth phase and a third game world will be opened up.
