FFXIII purchase?

So, today is my birthday and knowing how much I love the FF series, my GF bought me FFXIII-2 for the xbox, is it worth getting FFXIII and completing that before hitting number 2 or should I just jump on number 2 straight away and get 1 at a later date?

Playing 2 right out of the box pretty much will ruin 1's ending.

I would say to play XIII first. I hated XIII and loved XIII-2 and kind of wish I'd never played XIII. XIII-2 is great as a stand alone even if you haven't played XIII. But there are some people who liked XIII, so in case you would be one of those people I would still say to try it first and then play XIII-2 because yeah, playing XIII-2 will ruin the ending of XIII (and the whole plot since it explains what happened).
