Getting exactly what you paid for.

Now i was in a few debates recently about JRPG and WRPG and not about online games. i mean i was just discussing the difference between the two. and then it dawned on me why bother fighting FFXIII.

With the few disks you get plus if you spent money on the collectors edition with bonus disks and what not. plus close to 100 hours of story. in essense what people talk about is about the story and how Jrpg's are story driven. well you got exactly what you payed for. FFXIII is nothing but story. and high res graphics.

So now i ask you. DO you feel you got exactly what you paid for with XIII?

I think I paid £60 for the collectors edition... and, I'll be honest, I think I did get what I paid for. Content of the collectors edition box was: the game; an art book; the soundtrack; two L'Cie Brand stickers; and three double-sided character cards.

I'll talk about the game first. I wasn't disappointed* with it, despite feeling annoyance at certain things, like the early Hope and later CP grinding. It was the most energetic and fast paced RPG I've played so far, and I liked that because it incorporated action into a series which needed it about now - I do like the medieval-feel Final Fantasy games, but those ideas can only go so far. The story left me confused in parts, but that's because it took me until chapter four or five to find the codex, or whatever it's called.

The story was quite short, but there were other activities to participate in. Story could be done in more or less fifty hours... but I spent over twice that doing missions, grinding, and trophy hunting that game. ^^;

*The one thing that disappointed me about the gameplay was how linear it is. I was expecting a world to open up for me much, much sooner. Even then, it was still very linear in terms of the map and direction to take, and completing sixty missions got boring real damn fast. I expect towns and cities, shops and markets, interaction with other characters and an easier way to earn gil with Final Fantasy games - not the beautiful, one-way world XIII produced.

The art book is simply an art book. The pictures are too small, and there's not enough of them. Nothing special.

The soundtrack is on my iPod, and I play it every now and then. A couple of tracks have become my ringtone in the last six or seven months.

The stickers and cards are apparently collectable, and don't have a practical use until I'm thirty years old with a kid on the way, and I need to sort out a college fund or whatever. (jk)

I guess it also helps that I'm a Final Fantasy fan, who isn't so far up my own ass that I can accept change lol. XIII is not my favourite, but it's a welcome addition.

lets say back then before the game came out, knowing what you now of the game would you still buy? or would you rent?

I would've rented it, for sure. But even before it came out, I knew there would be no towns and stuff and that the game would be linear. That was one of the first info dumps that came out about it.

i have only played FF I on PSP and FF XII on PS2

and i have almost completed the story in FF XIII on Xbox360

So far i liked te game, i have the collectors edition without the soundtrack (so i downloaded it) This costed me 35€ because it was 'seconnd hand' in my gamestore...
I wanted to buy the normal version, but when i saw the collectors edition for like 10€ less (USED GAME) i bought it anyway because i thought: " if it still costs 35€ it must be in a verry good state "

i like the game but some negative things are that i expected a gameplay similar to FF XII (licence board is almost the same as the crystallium) but i stead of having acces to more and more regions as your game progress gets further, you just have other regions in FF XIII. In FF XII you still have acces to almost every region...

but i really like this game.

FFXIII is the only game on the PS3 that I've gotten the Platinum Trophy on and seeing as doing that is 100% the game then I say I got money's worth from the game. I thoroughly enjoyed and loved the game. When I get a break between all of the other RPGs I'm going to go back and replay it again. Even the combat is quite addicting like with FFXII. So I've got no problems and I bought the demo and read about all of the changes and departures. So I knew what I was getting into before buying the game.

I was really happy with my purchase. The gameplay made this one for me. I usually push my way through RPG's just for the story. While the story was meh in this game. The battles were awesome. As soon as I buy a Ps3 or fix the one I have, I plan on playing it again.

Well, I place Final Fantasy in it's own area lol
As a Jrpg, I guess I got what it's worth but I would expect a better and more complete storyline.
Compared to other FF, it was a waste lol, almost as bad as FF12 lol

My missus paid £60 for the special edition game and £20 for the special edition strategy guide. £80 total seems to be worth it cuz we both love the game and have not found a single reason so far to slag it off so yes it seems to us at the minute it was worth the money. Plus we have it on PS3 so we only have one disc unlike the X-Box version which required three discs which on a next gen console really takes the piss!!!

I don't mind the three discs, due to this i could 'monitor' my progress.
When I oped my FF XIII Box and I saw the three discs I thought NICE, if they need three discs for a game it will be good and large!!!

I paid $60 for it. Looking back I would have waited a bit for the price to drop, but overall I am happy with my purchase. I enjoyed the game throughout. It was completely awful, though there were parts that could have been better.

I bought this game brand-new for... R130 which converts to $18 lol so I definately can't complain about getting my moneys worth.... it was damn cheap... also I find that its the most action packed of all the final fantasies i have played already.... u kinda hit the ground running

I enjoyed the game somewhat (certainly more then XII), but I feel like I'm hung up on the older titles. They were what I loved - low quality yet well composed music, overworlds, a turn based system with menus that brought out more strategy for me...

I feel like I got my money's worth (spent tons of hours finishing it on 360 and near finishing it on PS3 [party chat made the grinding easier on 360]), but I ended up selling both copies like I do any non classic these days and feel more excited for remakes and rereleases of previous games then I will for anything new.

After seeing the reactions of some I wonder if it's just me. Are the newer games really missing some crucial element the older games had?
