That stupid bloody T Rex thing in Dalmasca, I should have known it was as scary as it looked when I decided to pick on it. I must have only been about level 3. I gave it a
wide berth after that
Ok silly thread is perhaps a little silly, but I'm just curious where you guys experienced your first game over in this game.
My first was...well. Level 27 saurian in the estersand, being smacked in the face with Vaan's tiny stick excuse of a blade. Need I say more?
Otherwise I think I've only had one other game over, in the barheim passage on my way to Zalera. I was trying my best not to wake too many skeletons, and avoided all the bombs...when that freaking Ishteen decides to Spawn, and I just..wasn't up to it. I fled back the way I came, with an army of skeletons and bombs at my heels...(Looked quite intimidating in the mini map.) I got out of the area with only two characters still alive, but of course Ishteen for some reason is able to spawn in that area too, so he killed me off in the end.
At least you're never bored in Ivalice.

Mmmm.. I think, my first "game over".. was when I encountered the first boss.. Firemane.. LoL! I was very Low LeveL.. and don't have much experience on my first gamepLay.. I thought it was a piece of cake, but heLL no.. it was tough.. :-)

"HELLO GUYS!"
I don't think I even were at level 3, 2 at a most when I decided to pick a fight with that bloody reptile. Every time I happen to re-encounter it now on my Estersand travels I kill it off with my level 78 Vaan...revenge is sweet. x)
A lot of people seem to have had problems with Firemane, I have a friend who haven't been able to beat it yet... I guess she's not really trying though, a shame really ,she's missing out on a great game. My sister was stuck on it forever too until I got permission to help her out xD I was close to dying on that freaking...leaf...dragon..thing in Golmore Jungle though. Man I HATE status battles.

I remember my first game over. I was in Bhujerba, in the Lhusu Mines to be exact, and my party was SEVERELY underleveled. I was in a hurry to get on with the story I suppose. Anyway, about halfway in the mines, I encountered a hell of a lot of the undead defenders. I was outnumbered and outmatched, because my weapons were pretty crappy as well. Those traps in there didn't help matters much either...I totally ran into those like crazy. So my party was defeated by a bunch of damn skeletons and cleverly (?) hidden traps...
What's worse is that I forgot to save before I went into the mines, and I had to start the game from my last save point, which was in the Aerodrome. So I had to do the whole meet-Lamont-and-sit-through-the-dialogue-that-I-already-heard thing over again. Idk why I didn't save, since there is a save point before you get into the mines. Ah well. You live and learn I guess.
Click at your own risk.:
Totally the Saurian in the Estersand.
I figured, "Hey, its here at such an early point in the game, can't be too difficult right?"
Haha. I hate dinosaurs.
Mmhmm, the damn T-Rex got me in the Estersand. I thought "Surely they won't put in a ridiculously difficult creature this early in the game, right?", and bloody went for the thing.
I lasted just up until my time bar reached its maximum. I felt stupid, and avoided that thing until I was well into my 30's and had some decent weaponry and magic spells.
OMG! Unknown that happened to me to! I hate that they put a bloody trex so early in the game!!! That was my first... Game over...
I hate that screen >.<
JillXWesker & MeruXDart FTW!
Fighting that mark in the Giza plains.. forgot what it was called. It's a giant Turtoise.
Whoever put that Saurian there must've had quite the sense of humor, or was just plain sadistic. Probably a sadist. With sadistic humor. Yes. I never realized until even later that that Saurian was actually "green" and wouldn't attack you unless you decided to poke it first, so I always panicked when running through the estersand early in the game on my first and..probably second play through too, heh.
OH now that I think of it, I had another game over, but it was before Judge Ghis, that battle right before, with some lesser judges and random imperial soldiers. GAH. I was stuck leveling up on that stupid ship for a week. Running around in the same boring mechanical environment having to activate annoying alarms is not my idea of fun...
@Jeremy: The gil snapper? : ) It was a bitch to me too, and I barely made it. Wohoo.
But still I've found that as long as you keep HEALING all the freaking time, even on monsters pretty far above your own level, you'll make it, even if it takes time. The Pylraster and that dragon mark in the Paramina rift were incredibly tough for me, and I had times where I had to sit for like 10 minutes and just heal my party back and forth until I even had oppurtunity to start attacking again... I don't get these people who take these low level challenges though, how do they manage not to die?
My first Game over would be on the first mark you get, the giant wolf xD
I think I needed three trys to finish that off
my first was also the t rex in dalmasca i was looking for my first mark and saw it..I decided it would be funner to fight..bad decision making on my part...
When I saw that T Rex for the first time I backed off xD
I ran right at it wanting to fight not a smart choice
Haha I did a similar thing but later in the game, i totally forgot that I had no potions or anything like that and ran straight in too a fight with the Firebomb king... Didn't end very well xD
have you beat the game yet...or hunted all the marks..
No, I havent.
I've just left the Giruvega
some of the marks will give you a lot of problems....I wont be a spoiler and tell you but know this they are very hard...
Sounds intresting indeed
How long is the game btw?
YEAH the texthera or how ever it was spelled like was HORRIBLE. I tried to take it on with just Vaan the first time, but he kept summoning help from his little wolf buddies, and I had to run away to save my own skin in the end. It was a little easier with backup help from Penelo haha.
Oh, this game can be how long you want it to be depending on what you plan to do. xD If you just play it through all the way I'm..not so sure how long it would take, but around 40-50 hours maybe? My first playthrough took me 68 hours I think, but I did some things on the side. The playthrough I have now has taken 120 hours something i think. xD;.. I've done pretty much everything except beating Gilgamesh and the other two last marks, and I haven't aquired Zodiark yet either. Haven't really bothered getting the bazaar weapons though, I heard it could take 15 hours or more to get the items you need for tornesol, and in my book it's just not worth it. I haven't found the weapons in FFXII to be too different from each others or extremely powerful in any way, heh.
Gilgamesh was a tough fight I barely beat him..I was so excited when I was fighting him because it want that hard at first then he gets a damn upgrade..But I still beat him so im okay with it now..
I laughed so much when I encountered Gilgamesh for the first time. I had accepted the hunt for him ages ago, but then I just kinda forgot it, and accidentally stumbled upon him when I was really going after the childsnatcher. I was all HMM a cutscene? And there he came flying from nowhere. Gilgamesh is hilarious as always. Yeah I've heard about his power up from first to second encounter, but a challenge is always welcome!
I recognise the name Gilgamesh...
Gilgamesh is a recurring character of the FF series, I think he's been everything between enemy, ally and summon? And he's got one of the best soundtracks ever. : )

I left the city and as I saw the intro clip for the Estersands I saw a saurian. As I explored the terrain I came across such a dinosaur and found it to be gentle. I thought to myself, "Well know, you can't be so tough, you'll be a nice chunk of EXP for me." As I struck it with my mosquito bite of a sword, I realized the danger of the situation. I desperately try to run back to the Rabanastre borders but alas, the saurian tore me in half.
GAME OVERRRRRRRRR

Oh, I remember my first game over very well. I, like the the majority of the people who have posted, also spotted the Wild Saurian in the distance, while I was traversing back to Rabanastre in the Estersand. Experience points flew off the reptile like rain on glass. Of course, I didn't know what a green HP bar meant, but the thing wasn't attacking me, so I figured I would have the advantage. One hit and a big, fat zero appeared. The beast then turned around and glared me in the eye like in Jurassic Park where the Tyrannosaurus Rex stared into that one vehicle. It opened its large jaws of death and about a thousand points of damage was depleted from Vaan's HP.
::EDIT:: Pfft. It seems Keyblader and I had the same issue: greed. Hahaha.
