Do the characters have "suggested" classes?

    Hey,

When you get more characters in this game, does the license board come

with certain weapons and armor licenses already owned?I guess, what I mean

is say, how the main character already has a sword on the license board. Is

it that way with other characters. Is there a game-designated character that

THEY would like you to place bow-and-arrows on, by having the first bow

license already owned? I was thinking about making my main guy awesome

with bows but didnt know if maybe they already had someone in mind for that.

Re: Do the characters have "suggested" classes?

Fran has a bow as her starting weapon and Balthier uses a gun. As for other licenses I forget about those two. In Final Fantasy XII, the player has full control over how they develop their characters. Now you can base their classes of that stats, for example:

Ashe and Penelo have the highest magick stat making them the best mages. Also, Katanas and Maces are good weapons for mage type characters because they [Katanas and Maces] use the magick power of the user to calculate damage.

Vaan has the highest agility by only 1 point but Daggers and Ninja Swords use the character's speed to help calculate damage. Vaan does start off with the Steal technik and with him having the highest speed he is the de facto thief.

The problem though with the License Board is it is not laid out as well as it could have been. In order to learn Green Magick 1, for example, the player must have their character learn Black Magick 1. If the player uses gambits for all the characters, this isn't so much of a problem, just that the character's license board isn't tidy. However, if the player opts to control 1 or more characters then the added categories in the menu make it take longer to select what the player is looking for. This could have been solved if they allowed the player to turn off the categories like "Black Magick" or "Time Magick" that way the character would be nice and tidy for battle and the player wouldn't have all the extra baggage to navigate through.

I know you can do anything but they kinda do have suggested jobs/specialities. I remember on gamefaqs there was a class challenge in which you make each character a specific job. I tried it and it was way too hard! I''m the first to admit I'm no gaming pro, I'm much more of a story guy(not that I don't enjoy the gameplay)

Re: Do the characters have "suggested" classes?

I really wish the license board was more complex than it was in the game. But then again I've always thought that FFXII have been missing in the level up and equipment department. This game poses with the most bland and boring equipment in the series, imo. I wish there had been more abillities to learn on the license board than just magick, say for instance something like FFX's Quick Hit etc. With the ad on of that and perhaps some reconstructure of the board itself, it could've made it possible to develope more unique character classes.
And it doesn't last very long! But I guess that depends on if you're an LP grinder or not. It's not as horrid as the Crystarium in FFXIII at least. : >

Don't get me wrong though, I don't REALLY dislike the License Board. I just found it sort of bland, actually right from the point that Tomaj explained it to me.

Basch's class in International Zodiac Job System should really be Warrior.
Basch's best weapon to have in Salikawood is Zodiac Spear if you won King Bomb HP:N/A Lev:??.

Re: Do the characters have "suggested" classes?

I'll be honest, I totally went with story, not stats, in developing my charaters.

    Van, I gave swords to
Basch, I thought was an axe and hammer guy
Balthier, I used a lot of polls and javlin's with since he seems most athletically capable to me, but did get him back to swords eventually
Ashe & Fran, were both rods all the way as my selected mages
Penelo, as the smallest I gave range weapons to, all bows and crossbows

    I didn't use any guns.

I don't think so it is similar to the Sphere Grid in FFX in that you can teach all licences to all characters so it all depends on what licences you teach them as to what they are most proficient as, but obviously you would probably want to use Vann as a Tank or physical Damage Dealer rather than an all out magic user and vice versa for Penelo she would make a poor Tank, physical Damage Dealer she would be much better sitting back and pelting the enemy with powerful magic or using postive staus effects and healing. However that is my personal opinion you could use Vann as a spellcater and Penelo as a physical damage dealer or Tank but I would suggest the other way myself.

Do the characters have "suggested" classes?

When choosing what weapons, magick, and other things, I first looked at what their default status and licenses were. For example, Vaan had Short Swords, Light Armor, and Steal (if there was anything else, I can't remember). I took that into account with how his stats were. He had a generally low MP, so I had him learn at first basic Magicks, and more Technicks. I also focused more on Standard weapons (Swords), rather than ones that had influence with magick or speed. Penelo started out with a Dagger (Speed weapon), so I had her learning more advanced Speed weapon licenses and Time and Green Magicks that enhance herself and the party's stats.

Re: Do the characters have "suggested" classes?

I tried to keep things balanced on the weapons license thing. After experimenting some, I learned that Penelo was good with a bow and Balthier is better with a staff or a bowgun. Basch is hit and miss with an ax and Ashe can't seem to use anything more than the sword and shield while Vaan is best with a spear and I kept Fran as my long distance bow person but sometimes she had a katana. Penelo was good with a mace for awhile but it literally seemed like the longer she had it, the worse she got with it.

    Trust Me.

Re: Do the characters have "suggested" classes?

To answer the OP's question, yes the game does give you a pretty obvious sense that certain character's use certain weapons/armor. That said, it is entirely your choice what to do with them. None of the characters are started so far in one direction of the board that it would be a hassle to move them in a different direction. Also the characters differences in base stats don't factor in a huge amount, after you start licensing them in the role you want and equipping them with the proper equipment. First time I went through the game i actually used Ashelia as my "tank" fighter and didn't experience any problems.

? Do the characters have "suggested" classes ?

I have just recently started a new file on FF-XII since the last time I played about 5 years ago. This time I have only used Penelo, Vaan, and Basch. I use Zodiac Spear on Basch, and Tournesol or Excalibur (depending on enemy weakness) for Vaan. I use Penelo mainly as a Caster for Buff's, and most of the time I have her equipped with Theif's cuffs. Vaan and Basch are most of the time wearing Bubble Belts. Penelo is my leader character, I am always using Nihopaloao accessory with a remedy on most bosses and rare monsters. I don't have Hastega yet, just gotta tele to Eastersand real quick. My Penelo is always wearing Mystic Armor, Mystic Helmet, Main Gauche, and Demon Shield ( I don't have Zodiac Eschuteon yet ), she always heals 9999 with curaja without using Faith buff. My Balthier is lvl 14, Fran lvl 13, Ashe lvl 21, Vaan lvl 72, Basch lvl 72, Penelo lvl 70, I am saved at the Henne Mines right now, just got Zodiark, now I'm am going to Power level all of my characters using Abysteel trick. Gonna get my main characters to lvl 99 and my other ones to maybe 75-80. I bet I could lvl Fran up like 20 times in one Abysteel fight. Anyway, there are no class specifics based on what equipment should be givin' to who.

Re: Do the characters have "suggested" classes?

I Learned That Vaan Is Supposed To Be Using 1H Swords And Shields As His Main Weaponry, Balthier Should Be Wileding Guns, Fran Should Be Wielding Bows And Arrows, Basch Should Be Wielding 2H Swords, Ashe Should Be Wielding 1H Swords And Shields, And Penelo Should Be Wielding The Best Weapon You Can Find, Cause Damn, Without It Your Screwed...LMFAO These Are Just The Suggested Weapons The Game Specifically States, But With Each Person, Comes Different Set Ups, So Pretty Much Go With Whatever You Want, Its Your Choice. You May Have Two People Wielding The Same Weapons And Armor As Long As you Have The Liscence For It And You Have More Than One Of That Specific Equipment. Hope This Helps
