Squall's real last name?

just a quick question on ff VIII What is squall's surname? Some say it's leonheart or lionheart which one of these is correct? can any one let me know please thanks.

Leonhart was just something that he adopted because of his random vision of him being a human Lion, Lionheart would make more sense, but Square choose Leonhart, guess to make it look more surname-y

Raine and Laguna weren't married. And I'm sure when Squall was found, Laguna was nowhere in sight. He was too busy being president and all. He would naturally take Raine's surname since that's all he was given at the time. I thought if the relationship wasn't bond by marriage, the baby naturally takes the surname of the mother. Unless it is decided to hyphen the name. In this case, the story just wouldn't make sense and there would be no room for a twist.

Actually, they were married. End game it takes you back to those same fields and shows laguna proposing to raine with a wedding band, which she accepts. Traditional naming values may not be present in the world of FF8. That, or the fact that the town didnt like laguna may be a reflection on Squalls last name. Also, raine and squall are puns for rain and squall (a sudden violent gust of wind or localized storm, especially one bringing rain, snow, or sleet.)

Yeah they were married. But Raine died when Squall was born and considering the villagers hated Laguna, were they really going to give Squall his last name? Leonhart is probably Raine's last name, given to him by the people of Winhill because they didn't want him to be associated to Laguna, who they blamed for everything going wrong. That's what I think happened anyway, it makes the most sense to me.
