Lol, he was certainly annoying, but he made it up for it by being quite the goof as well. I viewed him as comic relief when I first played the game.

Quistis - Most attractive female in Final Fantasy franchise and probably the most useful character in her respective game and beyond. Using her Blue Magic felt like cheating sometimes, that's how good she was.
Squall - To be honest I didn't care much for his lone wolf act, but as the game went on he improved vastly as a character finding true reason to fight and actually having a tolerable personality. Not to mention Leonhart, one of the most devastating limit breaks in franchise.
Zell - Despite his wittiness and poor defense to insults he was rather intelligent and amusing character. Great tank in battle.
Others - Selphie and Irvine were rather dull characters, as for Rinoa, well, she was kinda annoying to be honest. Kiros, Ward & Laguna weren't a bad bunch, I just never really cared much for them.

1 Squall > He's really brave and just a honest teenager struggling through a rough society of child soldier organization, and his own personal troubles, emotions and how his past affects him and his future.
2 Laguna > He's a bit of a goof; but really his heart is in the right place. He's always caring and thinking of others and he has a good spirit and attutide towards life.
3 Rinoa > Like Squall, she is just a teenager coping to get through life. At first she's just that stereotypical teenaged rebel, but then as the game goes on, she goes into something deeper. She grows in a young woman who wants to help a troubled man ( Squall ) get out of his shell, and help him recover from what has hurt him in the past. She's deep and passionate.
4 Kiros > I love his fighting style. His clothes are a bit strange though.
5 Ward > Just like Laguna he's really kind and thoughtful of others.
6 Zell > Ok I find him to be really obnoxious, but he's still a nice person and I love how he wants to protect Edea later on. Zell, like Laguna has his moments but they both have their heart in the right place.
7 Selphie > I just find her to be really fun and outgoing. She was a breath of fresh air to be honest. Sometimes everybody else was down or mopy and Selphie would just be still smiling. Though, sometimes she acts like she's four which can be really annoying sometimes.
8 Seifer
> Seifer is a huge arrogant, egoistical moron but from looking from a villain POV or Squall's rivial he's actually a pretty good character; just how he views himself as the White Knight in the situation and despises Squall.
9 Quistis > She is really down most of the game and I feel like she doesn't have much of a character expect she doesn't get the man. Still her design is cool and I admire her wisdom and intelligence. I just wish she would have more to her character than just not getting the man.
10 Irvine > He not one of my favourite characters and his jerky ladyboy behavior is really obnoxious. Though inside he's just acting it up to look cool and feel better about himself, so he's not comfortable with who he is. Though he doesn't realize his mistakes after the Parade and keeps on acting like he wants to get in Selphie and Rinoa's bed.
