This question has been bugging me for a while so would like some opinions or views on it. The question is, Why is Cloud so good with a sword if he has had no sword training? Cloud receives Zacks sword when Zack dies and as far as we know Cloud has never held a sword in his life so why is he such a good swordsman he fights like he has been using a sword his whole life. Come to think of it Tidus in FFX also learns to use a sword pretty quickly how do they do it? All opinions and views valued!!!

Well. I suppose there are multiple answers that are possible here.

1) Cloud may have been trained in combat without our knowledge. There are gaps in his history that we just do not know about, and at one point, he was aiming to get into SOLDIER, so why wouldn't he have trained in the art and failed?

2) His body has significant capabilities that are above the average human because of the experiments done to him. With his super charged body, perhaps learning the skill of sword fighting was an easy overall task.

3) When we first use Cloud during the Make Reactor No. 5 mission, he is a really low level. Maybe he only had a very basic knowledge of the Buster Blade at the time and his confidence based on his made up personality allowed him to swing it with good force. I mean, his only Limit Break when he starts is BRAVER which is basically him jumping and swinging. He learns more advanced moves as he progresses in the game until by the time you finish the story, he is a blade master!

And as for Tidus... well, Explanations 1 AND 3 apply there too. Also, that dude is a dream. Why wouldn't he be created with the ability to use a sword?

Tidus tells Auron he knows how to use the sword when he gives it to him.

"I hope you know how to use it."

and Tidus nods his head in agreement.

Cloud's skill more and likely comes from the experiments done to him and probably his memory thinking he is Zach. Since Zach was SOLDIER FIRST CLASS. Cloud believed he was too.

I don't think it needs an explanation after all, he is an experiment, and it could be from the memories of his, of him thinking he was Zack all along...

During Crisis Core, it has shown that Zach and Cloud had a prior relationship. It could be said the Zach would teach Cloud during missions. Cloud looked up to Zach and over the five years before the game starts, he could have self-taught himself how to fight.
