    PS3 FF7 and 8 Downloads

Hey has anyone here played Final Fanatsy 7 or 8 after downloading it on their PS3 from the PSN? I am thinking of doing this myself is it worth it? I have heard the graphics are improved and stuff is this true? I love both of these games and can't find much info about this can anyone advise me? Please do!!!

I can easily recommend downloading both, especially at the price they are at but they are the exact same games as they were on PS1 discs. Hell, it even asks you to change discs as that has even been retained even though they are both one part downloads. So basically you are buying the exact same games but since when has that been a bad thing.

The PS3 does, however, have a "smoothing" option which will round off some of the rough edges when you're playing the PS1 (and PS2, depending upon which system you have) titles. It makes it a little nicer to look at when you're playing those old games on a big TV.

I actually keep a little CRT around for when I hook up my older systems... but for the newer stuff, you gotta keep it looking good, man!

But seriously, when you fire up one of those downloaded titles, when you press the PS button on your controller, you'll see the option for graphical smoothing there.

I don't really see the harm in answering a question. Even if it didn't directly apply to him, there is certainly a chance that somebody else would have had the same question.

    Re: PS3 FF7 and 8 Downloads

I haven't downloaded FFVII or FFVIII from the PSN store, but I have downloaded FFIX. I'm thinking about downloading FFVIII myself, as the first disc on the copy I own doesn't even make it past the opening sequence.

What I will say is that it's worth it. Not only are they both fantastic games, but is so much more cheaper to buy them from PSN than it is to get a new/used/like new copy online. On Amazon, lowest price is £15.99 for FFVII and £12.95 for FFVIII. Sure it's not a WHOLE lot of difference, but a downloaded version will probably last longer.

From what I've seen, the graphics doesn't seem that much better. As Loco said, there's a PS Smoothing feature which softens the picture a bit, but I find that that makes things blurry and not so easy on the eyes. It seems like a lot of work, but if you're playing on a HDTV, keeping an old CRTTV around is useful for playing older games - FFVII, no matter what, still looks fabulous on my old TV. Sometimes a little roughness on the right output is a good thing, imo.

Really though, shouldn't this really be in General Final Fantasy?

Where can I find this "smoothing" option?

I have FFVII downloaded onto the PS3, but I'm still keeping hold of my PS1 disks. FFIX will be next purchase, in the UK they are £7.99, well it was when I brought it. I haven't noticed a difference in graphics, it's a shame really, I would love to see FFVII with graphics that FFXIII had.

Perhaps the best part is they all also legally work on a PSP.
So yeah, they might not really be enhanced, but they are quite cheap AND will run on two different consoles.

Winter you can find the smoothing in extra options I believe, just press the PSbutton in the center of the controller, go to extra setting I think it is, or something like that I'm not exactly sure where it is myself.

These are some vids for those who haven't seen it. The first shows dev. on the remake for PS3. The other shows the option menu for smoothing. See if you can notice any of the smoothing.

The first two series, for those of you who don't read or know, were 7 volumes total and all for PS2. There was also an 8th; it was called .hack//Fragment Offline. A lot of people didn't know that I bet. Has anyone read any .hack manga? If you don't plan on getting Link and instead prefer to read, I recommend at least trying out .hack//Link Manga- Read .hack//Link Manga Online for Free at Manga Fox. Let me know what you think.

The graphics are pretty much the same and the gameplay, well, of course is the same too. I highly recommend downloading them, a true final fantasy fan can't resist.
