I think I'm stuck

Yea, I'm playing through FFVII again, and I am at the temple of the ancients and I have to beat the Demon Guard... or whatever his name is... and I am at level 28-29-27 for Cloud, Aries, and Barret. I am under the assumption that I an at a too low of a level to beat him. What should I do?

You should be alright by level to take him down. Move your characters to the back row. Take out all attack magic materia (fire, ice, lightning ect), they are useless with the exception of some of the more powerful summons (such as bahamut). Give your self some magical bumps in the now open slots. If you have the long range materia use it on Cloud.

Use Barret and Cloud to focus on limits and physical damage. Use the womans healing capabilities as often as they are needed.

Also, did you do Yuffie's sidequests yet? I like to do her sidequests right away. That way you could level up a little, get some good materia, and get it done so that you don't have to do it later.

Yeah, I think at this point you should be able to use Regan to cut down some of the healing that you should have to do, but you'll probably have to have someone as a full time healer because the boss does a lot of damage. Maybe you might want to build up your limits beforehand against some other monsters and go in prepared. It could help.

Edit: A couple HP Pluses could help a little too. You won't be using much magic, so this could boost your stats up some so that you shouldn't die as easily.

Depends on how much you have farmed, some play thrus I have regen at that point but other times I don't. You need to cast Barrier at the right times, have Haste going on, and be quick quick quick...if you HAVE to, switch to Wait Battle Mode. 10000 HP...dude is tough. Limits are your friends.

Also, did you get Vincent yet? I thought that Lost Number was a harder boss, but that could just be me...

I never used Barrier, but Haste works great.

Edit: Vincent's limit would probably work pretty well here because you'll mostly be using physical attacks.

I cant go back because im in that one spot, and there are no more enemies that I am aware of, I go into that one room where Sephiroth was and there are no battles, I stay there 30 mins at a time, and still nothing, so I cant level grind, its ridiculous. Oh well, Im going to give it a try anyways.

theres random battles in the room where you defeated the dragon if you need more exp to level up. I didn't know about it until like my 3rd playthrough, but yes there is a way to level up if you need to. Kinda nice to know

I think you should be in the back row, if the problem is damage. If you have Slow, the boss can be affected by it. Also, use hypers to Berserk all your character to use limit breaks often. Also, have Aeris with her second limit level to use Fury Brand or the third level to use Planet Protector.

This enemy is strong but you are best only using one summon in the shape of Bahamut. The best way to cause damage to this monster is with physical attacks and limit breaks, so use Bahamut and then go on the offensive physically just make sure to keep healing and use haste and barrier if you have them. Also if you remove the magic materia and other summons it will raise your HP too so you could also try that too but it is up to you.

Just to add to Rocky's comment - if you go back to the hieroglyph room to level up, be sure to make use of the purple thing outside that replenishes your health. Saves on MP, tents and what not.

My team was around Lv 35+ at this stage and i still had trouble with this battle too. The only tips i can give are:

1) Barrier magic is awesome
2) Weaker characters keep in the back row to minimise damage
3) Preferably have two characters that can heal/revive
4) Limit breaks are your best friend
5) Bahamut can help you knock off a fair chunk of its health (although you can only use it once at this point)
6) Cait Sith's Dice or Slots limit break can be VERY helpful (assuming you're lucky and manage to get a high number/slot

Hope this helps, although i assume you've probably beaten it already
