She needed to do what she had to do and that was to summon holy from the white materia...she put herself at that alter and suffered the Raff of sephiroth's blade.

I still find it strange how nobody noticed Sephiroth dramatically descending towards her, sword in hand. You'd think they'd yell "Look out!" or something. But they didn't.

No I don't think it was Clouds fault. Sephiroth/Jenova was clearly the one who physically killed her. She was the one who decided to secretly go alone down to the alter. Appearently it would be sooooo wrong for her to bring a bunch of strong friends to be there during an important moment. As Jenova (the user) said Cloud resisted killing her himselfso under the circumstances he did better then nothing. I can understand how it wieghs on him cause he couldn't/didn't do more but it would of been a different story if Aeris actually just made it a team effort (someone could of tackled he out of the way/deflected the blade/tried to warn her)

    Re: is it his fault?

I don't think it was his fault. Aeris was stupid and went off on her own, knowing full well it was dangerous. She should have waited for Cloud, and told him of her plans before she acted. Or at least got one of the others to go with her.

Aeris was an innocent, but very reckless character, and you discover that when you first meet her in the church; she seems to just shrug off the fact that the Turks are after her.

As for the "someone should have shouted out to her and pushed her out of the way" comments, Sephiroth/Jenova killed her very quickly. There wouldn't have been enough time to react.

I always thought it was actually partly her fault, i mean going there by herself.
But of course Sephiroth can kill almost anyone pretty easily.

    Re: is it his fault?

The cut scene where Sephiroth/Jenova kills Aeris should have been shot from a far away view so you can see how fast he kills her.

    Re: is it his fault?

Many probably assume it is an overused plot element called "I must do this alone as I don't want to jeopardize everyone else's lives". You see this everywhere. The character either sneaks off while nobody is paying attention in an attempt to accomplish some dangerous task that requires multiple people to successfully complete. You see it again and again in Final Fantasy games, such as FFIX when Dagger sneaks off from Lindblum to confront her mother or FFX where the entire plot is based around Yuna keeping "the secret" of her planned demise.

Or, you can believe that Square is a bit more creative than that and go with an alternate theory. I believe she already knew her fate and that her time on the planet as a living being was drawing to a close. Even with the power of Holy, the world would not be saved. Only through crossing over and manipulating the Lifestream directly through the help of her powers could she truly save the world. She wasn't an idiot. If anything, she basically got Sephiroth/Jenova to screw himself over by killing her.
