    Is FFVII really worth $50?

I have been on plenty of online shopping websites looking for cheap copies of Final Fantasy VII for several years. The cheapest that I have found is $35USD. I am wondering if it is worth it. Now, you may be thinking, why not just download it. I can't. I do not have the money for a PS3 or PSP or whatever you need to get it. I also prefer to have a controller in my hands and a disc to insert to play it.

From why I hear on TFF, Final Fantasy VII is one of the best, if not THE best, games. But is it really worth what people are trying to sell it for?

Note: If you want to sell or trade a copy of it, I wouldn't object to a fair price or deal.

There is no doubt that VII is a great game. Is it worth $50 for a disk copy, I'm not so sure. I'd still get it though because from what I've heard its quite rare and just to add to your collection of FF games. I've got the PSN version playing it on the PSP and its great.

Re: Is FFVII really worth $50?

The thing is that the prices listed are pretty much market value. The value of the game increased because of popularity, I would say, and some rarity. I would say it is worth it. For $35-$50, if you play the game for at least 35-50 hours it would be $1/hour which isn't a bad deal when you look at it that way. Plus, if you decide to play the game multiple times each hour's cost would decrease the longer you play giving you "your money's worth".

But $50 is nothing for a game. Get some of the rarer PS games like: Tales of Destiny & Tales of Eternia (Destiny II in the U.S), Breath of Fire IV, to an extent Breath of Fire III, & probably one of the most expensive PS games Suikoden II. Which can run normally used easily at $100 if not more. Luckily I was able to buy the game [Suikoden II], on ebay, for $60 - total steal.

I have never had to pay that amount of money on any game before. $100 for a used seems outrageous to me. But, I guess I will to pay what they are asking, because the prices never go down.

$35 isn't so bad, I guess. I just hope that the price also for it includes the case, case artwork, and manual. I can't play without a manual... I can play without it, but for that price there had better be one.

Re: Is FFVII really worth $50?

Well Suikoden II had a very limited run meaning supplies are quite low (super rare). Plus the game got very good reviews meaning its value went up with that. And it is regarded as one of the best, if not the best, Suikoden game. That's going to send the price up.

I wasn't too thrilled of having to pay $100 either; purchasing that game was going to be some time down the road. But while playing the electronic version of Uno with my gf I decided to check ebay. Suikoden II was going for $58 or so with less than an hour before auction ended. I snagged that sucker just before time expired. Yeah, it was a d**k move, but for a game that normally costs $100 I don't care.

Re: Is FFVII really worth $50?

I mean $35 doesn't sound like tooooooo much, IMO, but I would think there would be a used copy you could find for less. Unless you're like me and just want a brand new one for the sake of it.

I'm not saying you need to lower your expectations, but it is my favorite game in the series and I've played them all, and generally it is fairly high, in the top few of most peoples lists regardless, so it is good, but don't go into it expecting to be blown away. In many ways it is very stereotypical of the FF series, but you have to understand what the 3D element meant to the series and gaming as a whole at the time. That said, the story is magnificent and complex. The characters are pretty solid, some of the best, but the fighting elements and weapon upgrades are pretty standard fare. There are really side quests though.

If you pay $50 for a copy (particularly US dollars) you really haven't looked around well enough. Check brick and mortar stores, auction sites etc... It's not exactly a rare title.

Yes. Yes, it is. I'd pay that. Only I won't, because I know you can find it cheaper somewhere else.

If you have a PS3 and a PSN account, you can download it from there for £7.99 (I don't know how much it is on the US store).

Its definetly worth it, but if you dont like Final Fantasy or PS1 graphics in general then that's a question you need to ask yourself.
If those 2 things are alright with you, then it's definetly worth it.
Try to get a deal with more FF games on PS1 as well, there may be bundles.

Re: Is FFVII really worth $50?

I have decided. After reading all of the comments on this thread (thank you all for that), and watching someone's LP of it on You Tube, I have decided to buy my very own copy of Final Fantasy VII. I am sure that I will like it.

I will also make sure it comes with a case, cover art, and a manual. Not to mention it needs to be in good-like new condition. I hope I don't have to wait to find one.

Cool, I was like this a couple of years ago when trying to buy VIII, I would be very particular about the condition of things I buy and never wanted to risk buying them from ebay when they would say "few minor scratches" etc.
but I was in a market in Birmingham uk, were they sold everything, clothes etc. .. and i came across a stall that sold old used ps1 games, and over in the back behind the till i spotted a double case ps1 game but couldn't make it out, so i asked the guy would it by any chance be a finalfantasy, he said yes and reluctantly sold it to me for 15 quid, and it was in absolute IMMACULATE condition, I reckon he had it in his secret/reserved pile and so I was very lucky to stumble across it like that... pity the same wouldn't happen to you Michael with VII

Did the price for FFVII go up after Advent Children was released?

I still have my black label VII, glad I decided to keep it after all these years. Last time on Amazon, the price for this game was almost $150. I don't know if ANY game is really worth that much. It's ridiculous.

My guess would be yes. And the whole ten year anniversary wouldn't of helped with gamer magazine/website coverage presenting the game to an even younger generation. Plus it seems its a relic in the series.. without question it is a masterpiece (even statistically) so its value will inevitably continue to soar.

Now that I give it some thought, only way for FFVII to be worth $50... if it was an HD remake. Which is bound to happen sooner or later.

I wouldn't like to see a remake, I'd Imagine it would be like an interactive advent children.
I love the graphics/quality of VII, and I would hate for the soundtrack to be remade.
If its not broke don't fix it.

I'd say if it was remade, HD and the whole lot, 50 would be the lowest price, I'd imagine SE would cash in on a limited edition collectors item at around 70 - 100 a pop.

I meant more like, PS2 graphics. Total realism would make the characters look..well, fugly.
Interactive advent children sounds bad anyways.

You could surely find it at a lower price,I think.

Re: Is FFVII really worth $50?

I just checked eBay and I saw a lot of copies of FFVII with their current bids at around $5. Are you looking for a black label copy of the game? Because yes, that will be more expensive, but its not really necessary. I have a greatest hits version, and guess what? Same game.

Anyway, I know those prices will go up as the auction goes on, but it will probably end up being around $10 or $15 for the game. Definitely, definitely worth it.

I got lucky. Mine was included (along with FFVIII and FFIX) when I bought my PS1 bundle on ebay...for $20.

If i didn't have the original copy still and had to pay $100 for it with the additional option of having the memory of the game erased from my brain to enjoy it all again like new i would...

I've always been against the remake, but they could do an awesome revamp of it and add some more side quests to it maybe it would be welcome, as the shit they are churning out today just doesn't cut it

Just download the Ultima Edition and play it on your netbook/laptop with a gamepad at your convenience. Personally I'd rather spend the Sterling equivalent of $50 USD on alcohol.

Re: Is FFVII really worth $50?

There's a tiny, tiny, tiny little market stall in town where I live, and they've got a copy of the game for £25 ($41 USD) which is pretty steep to be honest. Considering in Game Station some PS1 games get sold for about a quid. Just shows how quality and valued the game is I s'pose.

I have the game already but it doesn't work. It used to belong to my brothers but I jacked it off them last year to see if it would work on my PS2 but it's just too scratched. I dunno whether to shell out the £25 for the new copy, or have Game Station revamp the copy I already have in hopes of it working afterwards, which isn't guaranteed so could turn out to be a waste of money anyway >.<

I guess if you look after the game, the $35 is probably worth it because it is a brilliant game. Newer games are often more expensive than that now anyway.

Considering that it was one of the greatest games of all time, yes. It isnt available in stores anymore and you can only order it from random people. It's one of those games that you can play for life and still love it. It also has 65+ hours to play if you do ll of the side-quests.

Re: Is FFVII really worth $50?

Just looked on ebay here in UK, just out of curiousity, and some copies are going for about £9, which isn't much at all. The PC version is the one that is expensive.

Actually for one of the bigger PS1 games, FFVII is worth peanuts compared to some. I mean, FFVIII and IX go for more than VII usually.

But for the question, is $50 worth it for FFVII? My answer is yes. FFVII is a fantastic game, that I was lucky to have thrown in with my PS1. My original copy still works, but I would shell out whatever I needed to own the game again.

Re: Is FFVII really worth $50?

It's worth it if you're into older FF games and don't mind the graphics. However in my opinion it is a tad over hyped so buy it at your own risk....its still a fantastic game but for many folks( Not necessarily the nice people on this forum) this was their first FF and thus nostalgia has given it a special place in their heart so they tend to embellish ( its the same with any old movie or game memory seems to enhance the experience).

To be honest physical copy 40$ seems to be the standard of what I've seen in pawn shops, used electronic stores or anywhere selling old games, vendors seem to know the value of this game and refuse to sell it lower. PSN store is a steal and you'll hardly notice the differences between physical copy and digital. However I understand you might still want a physical copy so good luck and tell us how you made out.

I was looking at old video games for the PSX at a store near my area and they were selling FF7 for how much you ask? That's an excellent question, I'll tell you. $65! before tax. Granted it is one of the greatest games (if not the greatest RPG ever), but you can get it on the psn for cheap and ebay, but either way, I'd dish out the money.
