Was anyone else disappointed with Reno's ac portrayal?

In FF7 Reno did have a few idiotic moments but he's still shown as a really badass character.....after all, he only gets taken down 3-on-1 in the first fight. But in advent children he just seems to be there so people can laugh at him and gets creamed by Yazoo when he doesn't even pull his gun. What's with this?
Also, the electro-mag rod in ff7 battles is always show to be about a metre long, while in ac it is much shorter and doesn't seem to be electrical at all.

Granted, I agree to an extent that he was portrayed as a weak goofball for most of AC, but I think the character finds redemption on the highway during the motorcycle chase scene when he and Rude blow up Yazoo and Loz. But his portrayal before that I felt really disappointed by.

I like Reno he adds the comedy element to the film which is good and he just seems to have a bit of I don't care attitude. However when he is insulted By Loz and Yazoo he cares then and tries to kick some ass so I like both of his moods in my eyes he is just a pretty cool guy!!!

They maimed him for comedy relief... very unfortunate.
I watched AC before playing VII so at first I thought "He must be a moron."
Then watching him blow up Sectors and threaten people's lives?
The twisted his character up like a pretzel.

It was disappointing that Reno and Rude were reduced to mere comic relief for the film, but i did enjoy seeing them frequently in the movie as opposed to merely appearing in a brief cameo like Tseng and Elena.
