Just saw this on kotaku. Please also watch the video, it's German but it's subtitled, to understand what this thread will be about.

So, what do you think? Do you see yourself in this report?
What do you think is the typical gamer?
And why the heck are there still so many stereotypes about gamers?!


As for me, I thought the report was kinda... stupid. It's pretty okay if they make fun of a group of people but this didn't seem like a joke at all. Oo"
It seems like they just searched for people looking exactly the way they wanted to. If you scan the background, you'll see that there are MANY people who don't look like walking stereotypes at all. But well...

I especially laughed when the guy with the hat was asked if he had a girlfriend - what's that to do with games?! And why the heck is everyone supposed to have a girlfriend. Go out, randomly ask ANY GUY if he has a girlfriend - you'll find that even the "normal" people sometimes don't have girlfriends. Oo"

Oh and I laughed hardest at the end, when they said that the three guys haven't met a girl. If we expect gamers to have normal girlfriends, most of them are probably not interested in games at all and don't want to go to the convention. So there is no need to look for a girlfriend, if you left yours at home... And why the heck would ANYONE go to a games convention to check the girls out?!?!

Ah well, German TV... seems to be much fun. ^^

Out of thousands of people on Gamescom they found like two ugliest and said "this is what your tipical gamer looks like, he doesn't care for his apearance, nor does he have a girlfriend or any kind of social life for that matter", it's simply astounishing how ignorant, hasty and judgemental people can be.

Still, I'm not really suprised by this, they went as far as to blame games for mass murder, it's only natural there are those who would call gamers freaks.

Those who did that video are stupid, everyone is different and as you said; these are stereotypes!

Those are just bad stereotypes which, for the most part, don't stand true. I'm pretty sure the majority of people here aren't like that. But still, it was rude to people who are like that. Some people show their love of games more than others(albeit a bit too far).

I watched the piece, and frankly, I am disgusted. The way they portray the "average gamer" is appalling. I may play a lot of games (as part of my work), but I don't look like that at all. I love to exercise, and shower, and shave (you wouldn't know, because I haven't shaved in a week). How they classified them as "computer freaks" was what tipped me over the edge. I am glad that they took it off of the website (I was directed to the YouTube video of it. I am especially glad that 6800 people complained about it. If I wanted to, I would become number 6801.

Agreed - that video is a piece of trash. Sure, i might be overweight and have no girlfriend, but a) i exercise regularly but have a weak spot for the pasta and b) personal preference since none of my lady friends are what i'm attracted too.

I think the video is just trying to flame the gaming community because, let's face it, some people just get off on starting s**t.

It's pretty sad how easily people can label you for your kinda "nerdy" likes. Those are all streotypes, most gamers I know don't look like the streotypical gamer as they were labeled.
