A video game from Studio Ghibli?

    Yes.

The wikipedia entry just has the title of the game listed as The Another World, but the trailer for the game is called Ninokuni: The Another World. There also hasn't been a release date set for anywhere outside of Japan, so I don't know if it's going to be released here or not, but I really hope it does.

YET ANOTHER EDIT!: Game confirmed to see a western release!!!

EDIT: This game is set to appear on both the Nintendo DS and the PS3. Here's a link to an article in Kotaku that has the screenshots of what the game will look like on the PS3.

EDIT 2: There's now somewhat of a release date of the DS version for Japan, which will be sometime during Q4 later this year. No word yet as to when the PS3 will have it's version ready, or if either version is going to ship overseas.

EDIT 3: Footage of the PS3 version added below.

EDIT 4: Both versions of the game are set to take place in the same world, but are different from one another.

The plot is that you play as a boy named Oliver whose mother has suddenly died. There is a stuffed animal fairy thing that follows him around who gives him a book that allows Oliver to go to an parallel world where he may find a way to bring back his mother.

Here's a couple of trailers for the game if anyone is interested in watching it:

Nice! I've been a fan of Studio Ghibli for a while now... The game itself might not actually be the best but I'm sure the story is fantastic, theirs always are. They're always nicely strange ^_^

That would be pretty awesome. I have always loved Studio Ghibli. However, I am not sure about the game play, but it should be interesting.

As far as I know this is going to be their first video game project and even tho I'm big fan of Studio Ghibli's work I can't help but to be a little bit sceptical, but then again they're going to work with Level 5 which has a reputation of making decent games.

God I hope theres airships as it just wont be Ghibli without one flying contraption or another. Im quite optimistic given that the worlds best animation studio is working with one of the worlds best developers. A match made in heaven I would say.

Wikipedia stated that it's set for release on the DS, but it also might appear on a console as well. If it does appear on a console, I would say it would probably appear on the Wii, but that's just a guess.

Feeling at bit FMA? Or just the fact a stuffed rodent with a lantern stapled to his head and forced to wear clothes seems to be stalking the child? (As far as we can make out so far, ofc)

Well in the trailer it showed a stylus drawing a symbol, meaning it would have to be on a console with those kinds of capabilities... So a Wii or a DS... so the DS would probably work better because it has the two screens. But if they showed the animation of the kid drawing each symbol it would get kind of tedius...

Re: A video game from Studio Ghibli?

Bumping this thread, because it's been announced that Ninokuni is set to be released for the PS3. And here I was placing my money on a Wii release.... Thank goodness I don't gamble all that often.

Source: Ni No Kuni Is Also A PlayStation 3 Game // Siliconera

The link also has a screenshot of the article in Famitsu where the information came from, though I don't know if any of you can read Japanese.

There's still no mention of a release date, or if it's going to appear in store shelves outside of Japan, but maybe we'll hear some more about it when TGS rolls around.

Wow, PS3 and DS, that's new. Woot for me I have both. Yes, this game looks really interesting, so I'd love to play it sometime, and I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli so I'm sure the game would be good.

Re: A video game from Studio Ghibli?

I'm really liking the look of that game. Hopefully, they decide to release it here.

I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli, so hopefully their games are as good as their films.

It's different that they are releasing it on DS and PS3, but I'm not bothered because I have both . But yeah, if they do release it here, I will definitely be getting it.

More news about the PS3 version of Ni no Kuni! There's now a trailer that shows what the game will look like on the PS3, and also showcases a bit of the combat as well:

Watch the trailer here: See The Trailer For Ghibli's PS3 Game

For those not to be bothered with silly link-clicking, here's the youtube vid of it, which was also added to the OP:

    MORE NI NO KUNI NEWS!!!

This time in regards to the DS version. Apparently, both games are set to be in the same world, but are different from one another. Looks like I'll have to get both versions to get the whole Ni no Kuni experience!

Wow... "The Another World"? Nice bit o' Engrish right thurr.

Anyway, the game looks fairly entertaining. My girlfriend has forced me to sit through a few Studio Ghibli movies (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke) so they've kind of (just kind of) grown on me. I may give it a go once it comes stateside.

Also, I noticed a bit of a Pokemon-ish vibe to it. Is that just me?

Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?

Now that you mention it, the PS3 version definitely looks like the gameplay has that going on, but I think the DS version is going to be different, but not by much. The kid fights in the DS version (RPG-style), whereas he looks like he's just shouting orders at the little monster-looking things in the PS3 version.

Click for the demo of the combat for the DS version if anyone wants to. It takes a bit for it to actually be seen though, ~5:20 into it.
