Turian, Asarian, and Krogan walk into a bar...

Bit late as usual, I've gone through first Mass Effect the other day and I'm about to beat Mass Effect 2, both games are simply outstanding, I even dare to say this was one of the finest gaming experience I had in a long time.

Now, as strange as it may sound, I actually prefer the first one, I'm also probably the only one. While Mass Effect 2 is indeed a huge step forward, to me it simply wasn't exciting as the first one, also, customization, and exploring is vastly superior in first Mass Effect. While Mako does behave like a rubber ball it's still more entertaining than scanning planets in Mass Effect 2. I'm also disappointed with almost noneexsistal customization of your companions. Mass Effect 2 however features tons of little details, your choices carry bigger impact, locations aren't repetitive as in first Mass Effect, better AI, polished and more dynamic combat...

I hope Mass Effet 3 end's up with best of both.

As for the topic, what do you think of the series? Which game do you prefer, why, and what do you expect from Mass Effect 3?

Mass Effect 2 is in my top 3 games of all time. I never played the first one (being a PS3 player, we never got it), but I would love to play it.

ME2 is simply incredible. One of the most fun games I've played ever. The story, the visuals and the gameplay are the best you will find in any game. I've beaten ME2 once and about to do it again (and then I'm going on a trophy run).

As for ME3, I already have it preordered. Judging from the trailers, the AI of both your enemies and your teammates have improved. I always thought in ME2, your teammates always chose the worst spot for cover in the middle of a massive shootout.
I also read they are making it more challenging. I think they are stepping up each difficulty by 1 (I would hate to see Insane mode :/)

Mass Effect can be played on PC as well, even if you don't have a strong rig it's OK as it's an older game. Great thing about playing it on your PC is importing your saves which makes Mass Effect 2 even better, all decisions you made during first game may prove to be helpfull or simply backfire on you.

As for AI, I'm glad improvement is on horizon, one thing that bugged me in Mass Effect 2, your companions would fall behind, they either weren't fast enough to follow or they wouldn't follow you at all.

Bought ME when it first came out and was enjoying it until bugs and glitches everyone else I knew was immune from made playing the game a massively frustrating experience. ME 2 though was a pure joy to play through from start to finish. It is one of the best games of this generation in my opinion(only let down by the planet scanning element).

Im a bit wary of ME 3 though, not because it doesnt look brilliant, which it does, but because I am carrying over my slot from ME 2 and I let a few more characters die than I would have liked. Hopefully that wont hinder the experience though.

I guess I was lucky enough or just plain lazy to get to it when I did. Latest patch however didn't solve all problems, there were still some issues left, that bug with elevators where you characters stand still but the elevator wont budge, or Shepard not being able to run no matter what. It was annoying to say the least, I can only imagine how annoying it would be without this patch though.

Played the first one on PC and bought ME2 for 360 about a month or so ago. Loved them both and am awaiting the final Shepherd installment coming soon. I was kinda bummed about most of the changes from the first to second especially equipment wise but word on the street is the they are going back to a more expansive set up with attatchments and everything in the third.

I was a big fan of the paragon/renegade actions in the second it added a nice little edge to making decisions. All in all the two have places in my top ten faves of all time now. Was there much dlc for the first? I know I spent like an extra twenty five loons on dlc for the second one.

smurphy: that blows about losing some characters on the cross over. Shouldn't be a huge deal because I don't think the party is as expansive as it was in the second. It would be kinda interesting to see the impact that might have in a game though. My completionist nature wouldn't let me go through if I lost a character so I had to restart like six or seven times haha.

I was going to look into getting it on PC, but it's kind of hard to find now. I regret not getting it before ME2 (which I kind of bought on impulse anyway, because it was Bioware). I wish it was on PS3, then I could have taken advantage of playing your own trilogy. But I'm trying to set up the perfect game for ME3.

I installed every available DLC the other day, just wanted to prolonge my playthrough being near the end and all. I have yet to recruit two additional characters, though the missions I went through were interesting to say the least, however the biggest surprise, and most pleasant one was Dragon Age armor, it looks fricking sweet.
