Star Ocean 5 will have Similar Battles to Infinite Undiscovery
Tri-Ace opened up more about many of the things and ideas around the latest in the Star Ocean series in an interview done by 4Gamer. They said that the Star Ocean universe still has more stories to tell and that they decided to pick one that fit between Star Ocean 2 and 3. However, they are already looking to the future hoping to be able to do a Star Ocean 6 and 7 as well, but naturally they are focused on the current one they are developing. They also said that some think that Star Ocean 3 is the end of the series, but they have stories that can be after it as well, they've thought about how it would work.
The main character for Star Ocean is 23 years old, but that they originally wanted him to be older. For the story it ended up working out better that he was younger, but they did not want a young boy saving the world.
The similarity in the logo was their intention to show the fans that this is the Star Ocean game that they want and their commitment to delivering on the experience that they are wanting. Privates actions will be in the game along with crafting, but they promised not to make crafting overly complicated as there was negative feedback for how Star Ocean 4's worked.
They said that a lot of JRPGs focus on cutscenes and story, but they wanted to focus on the gameplay and giving a seamless experience for the player. There will still be the big cutscenes fans know and expect, but most of the story events will be handled through the game without breaking away.
Battles will happen on the field where the encounter happens and they said that combat will feel similar to that from Infinite Undiscovery. Infinite Undiscovery had a more MMO style to it which won't be in Star Ocean 5 focused on intuitive play. There will be six players in combat and their AI can be changed for the non-controlled characters.
Holy Crap. Six characters in battle!! More than FFIV. The hp of enemies will be insane.
I remember during or right after the release of Star Ocean IV that they said, that game would be the last. I know some people are not too excited for this game because it is before SO 3 and we know the ultimate reality. It feels to them like a pointless story, I understand that sentiment.
I do like the MC is a little older than the norm; 23 is almost old person territory in JRPGS.
Yeah having a main character being over 20 is something rare in JRPGs these day, a bit disappointing that's the case at times, but it is the way things are. I can understand people's concerns over knowing how everything ends, but it is an isolated story that doesn't even connect to the end. So it'll still be worth exploring. It'll enrich the universe and give us something more to enjoy from the series.
Curious? There's no limits but your own imagination.

Maybe, but maybe not. We all knew how Halo: Reach was going to end, but it probably had one of the most enjoyable campaigns.
