So I got a new game. Now what?

Well, I haven't gotten it yet, but there's a PSP in the mail somewhere with my name on it, as well as a copy of FFIV with The After Years, FFT: War of the Lions, and FFVII: Crisis Core (duh, thanks Andromeda). But there's a problem with priorities.

Right now, I'm playing through FFIX, which I've only done once before. I also recently picked up Borderlands and am playing that for the first time. I also have a Dragon Age II game open, but I'm not impressed, as, as I heard somebody else describe it, it doesn't have the "epicness" of Origins, not in the internet sense but solely that the first game was about a war with creatures to save the fate of a country and that this one is about a select portion of the population of one city. AND, after reading through the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls threads, I now want to pick up my copy of the former and get back into it.

Anyway, the point is, I have a lot on my plate when it comes to having nothing on my plate. The first question would be ... What do y'all suggest? When my PSP stuff gets here, do I concentrate on playing another version of possibly my favorite game? Or do I continue playing what I'm already on, just to close that out before I "take on another project", if you will?

The second question, of course, is ... What do you do? When you're working on a game and you get another game that you are even more interested in playing, do you finish what you started, or do you push it aside and move on to the new toy, only to possibly come back to the other game later, and possibly have to restart the old game because you're lost midway through at that point?

Re: So I got a new game. Now what?

If you got a FFVII game for the PSP it is probably Crisis Core, which I'm told is a very good game. To answer your second question first, I generally finish what I start before moving on. Though if I have been waiting really long on it and really excited for something it can take precedence. But I always play new games before I play ones that I've already played. It is the reason why Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD are on hold while I finish Dark Souls and Atelier Totori.

I would definitely agree about Dragon Age 2, the story is small. It is far more political and social conflict than a flat epic out to save the world. As a game it did fail at where Origins started. It probably managed to tell a more interesting story, I can give it that and some aspects of the game are more enjoyable. But it is an obviously rushed game that is all to easily seen as such. It still manages to fail on all the same points the original did and found some new things to fail on as well. Considering you're tied between a lot of games, I'd definitely say drop this one and go to a different game. You'll enjoy yourself more.

The advice I would give is the same I give to myself. Have I played it before? If yes, then it can wait. A new experience will be even more enjoyable than reliving an old favorite.

Choose by waiting to see which one you're most in the mood for on the day. Be sure to take your time playing whatever you pick as well, you'll not enjoy whatever you pick if you rush through to get to the other games/stress over the new stuff.

I push the old a-side for the new. At least have a peek at the new game(s), anyway. But if I know that two new ones will arrive on the same day I think about what sort of games they are in order to pick. Is one a game you could just dip in and out of? In this case I'd try the dipper for a short time first to satisfy curiosity.

Good luck with picking one out!

Re: So I got a new game. Now what?

I went through this while I was getting my newest games. I was doing a playthrough of Final Fantasy X when Final Fantasy Tactics came. Since I had played X before, I went for Tactics. Then I got VII! I was in a pickle then. Do I continue Tactics, or start VII, a game I have been waiting for what seemed like forever to get. The same happened when I got FFAnthology and then again when I got FFChronicles.

But with me, I end up starting over each game several times. So, basically I end up wasting a lot of time just flipping from one to another. I will eventually play them all completely, but unless the house blows up, and the games get destroyed, I know I will always have them to play whenever I feel like it.

When I'm playing something and get a new game, I try to enjoy and finish the current game, but most of the time, I can't resist the temptation enough and I end up quitting to play the new game. Last time this happened was when I was playing Final Fantasy VII, the FFIV Complete Collection was released when I was about halfway through the game, so I went and bought it and after a couple days, quit FFVII to play FFIV.

I say just play what you're most tempted to play.

Re: So I got a new game. Now what?

I usually tend to finish all of my current playthrough's before moving onto something else, though every now and then one of several games I play at once turns out to be not worth my time and effort after which I replace it with something better and more interesting. Recently, it was the case with Dragon Age II which I suggest you drop and hop onto something better as it's a bad game overall not just compared to Origins.

I also don't have a problem giving upon a game I already played, once or several times, and switching onto something new. Seeing as you've played Final Fantasy IX already, and you have Crisis Core coming in which in my opinion is better than VII itself I suggest you do the same.

Re: So I got a new game. Now what?

Good news and bad news. The PSP and FFIV Complete Collection both came in the mail today. I was surprised at how quickly they arrived. I was also surprised that somebody can buy a portable gaming system with a rechargeable battery, and a seller would sell and ship it without including a damn charger. Why in the hell would you sell a rechargeable system without a charger? I mean, really?

I sent them an email, but I also bought a charger from somebody else anyway. Hell, it was only four dollars including shipping. But that also means that it'll be almost a week until it shows up.

So it looks like I'll have time to continue FFIX, and possibly start a Demon's Souls game. We'll see.

EDIT: I got the PSP charger the other day, and I'm very much looking forward to playing The After Years. So I turned it on to watch the opening FMV, and I noticed an "Interlude". Is this just another , or is it a short game, or what? If it is a game (which I suspect), should I play it before The After Years, or should I not bother?
