Ok so this is out of the two main games so far (1 and 2)

What game do you prefer overall if you had to choose?
What weapon (Sword shield or staff) did you choose at the beginning of the game?
Did you like or do the Gummi ship stuff when you didn't have to?


Overall I like the second game better. The story is longer, Bad guys are cooler, and the general systematics are better. Of coarse it had the advantage of being released later but it improved on almost everything that bothered me in the first game. Mostly I like how the triangle button is used to avoid annoying menu selections for quick use. "Quick-time" action button uses may have been overused a little but there were certainly times when they were necessary. I also really liked the design upgrades for Sora, Riku and Kairi (even though she got a bit jail-bait looking). I missed Deep Jungle though.

I also pretty much exclusively pick the sword. It gains so many good bonuses earlier on then the other two options. Attacking is just so much more suitable for Sora. I would consider taking the shield option if I was planning on taking on some of the stronger optional bosses in the series. The staff just looks like a terrible choice, sure magic isn't really weak or anything but mainly attack with it and its useless for awhile if you ever need to cure. Also it seems to learn helpful abilities way later. I just couldn't imagine relying on casting as a primary attack.

I typically ignored any optional gummi missions on my first few playthrough. Just a lot of shooting and too much time to build a great ship that was never needed. BUT I recently replayed both games and was so bored I tried the optional stuff. I liked it more then I thought. I really like KH1 Gummi builder with the freedom to almost use anything you can and design the ship how you like, then i tried KH2 Gummi stuff.... it was not as good. The gummi creation was incredibly limited and couldn't be expanded easily until late in the game or insanely grinding early routes(to an extent) and even then the ships i could build were lackluster compared to KH1 gummi ships.

Weapon: almost always sword, never staff
Gummi: KH1 way better then 2, recently liked it.

Gummi Ship: Honestly? Neither game.

While I did find enjoyment in both games, I think I liked the first title more. The second did indeed have improved combat, focusing on more flashy action, but seemed to lack the amount of exploration and platforming elements from the first game, which were really enjoyable to me. The worlds in KH II seemed to be a bit rushed too, and a few of the second visits were just plain unnecessary (I'm looking at YOU Pride Lands). Atlantica was just plain embarrassing to play through...

I always went for higher defense in both games, and I've never really been one for much magic, so the staff was always forgotten.

The Gummi Ship stuff is probably my least favorite aspects of both games. Once I got the ability to warp in KH 1, I never bothered with it again, and in KH II, once i opened the pathway, I never bothered with it again.

Did you like or do the Gummi ship stuff when you didn't have to? On KHI, no. On KHII, yes. A lot.

Overall, I found KHII to be a superior game. The mechanics of the game for a start seemed faster, easier to use, less sluggish. I also liked the addition of the reaction commands. I think they added a nice dynamic to the KH battle system, which was essentially, a hack and slash for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good hack and slash
The story too seemed better. With the addition of Roxas and Organisation XIII, it had more of a story to tell.

As for what I picked at the start, I always go with sword. I have tried the others, but I always get on better with picking sword. I always go with strength over anything else on most games, let alone just KH.

Now onto the gummi ship. I HATED the gummi ship parts on the first KH. They annoyed me to no end. On KHII, however, I loved doing them. On every playthrough, I make sure I do the whole lot.

What was great about KHII's gummi was the building of the ships. I could spend ages building the ultimate ship, and then demolishing all the stages. I had endless amounts of fun doing that.

Don't get me wrong, I love KHI. I just think KHII is the superior game, in pretty much every way.

Prefer: Of the first 2, definetly the first one i'd prefer.
Weapon: I usually always go for the sword and shield secondly. But i've tried every way i think.
Gummi: KH1 way better, i agree. I have an awesome ship that i really like in KH1. Not as fun in the second one, only lame builds in that one.

Overall i like the first one way better, the second was alright but not nearly as epic to me.
Also it had more side-quests,bosses and difficulty.
Sure KH2 has some difficulty but i was mainly the time battle with Demyx which in my opinion, the most retarded fight in the series. And the only optional boss (which was a disappointment to not have more)
Also the only side-quests are mainly just getting perfect on some insanely hard mini-games which is the only serious challenge in the game, if ya wanna go at it. It's the only thing in the series i don't bother mastering, is some of those mini-games perfect.
And getting some extra key-items in the first one with the Funguar thingy, that was pretty super hard.

Anyway i like the first one so much better

I guess i should start with the first one. I liked the story better, the whole point of the game was Sora finding his friends, the King and returning home. In the second one it seemed like you were just going after Organisation XIII.
Also the Heartless seem alot more evil, they look too cartoony in 2 and then there is the ongoing threat of the Darkness, how easily it can take over your heart and its ability to destory worlds. Visiting worlds has more point as you're locking the keyholes to prevent its destruction, not just stopping by to say 'hi' fight a boss then leave.

That said, KH2 solved many of 1's problems, mainly being able to skip movies. But i felt Reaction Commands removed the difficulty from battles. Being able to dodge a bosses attack and then counter-attack, while spectacular to watch, made the whole thing too easy, including Xemnas. Seriously give me Block, Dodge Roll and Curaga and i'll be fine. That said (again) i love Organisation XIII and the way each member is totally different, i could go on. Long story short, Xigbar rocks an untold amount of socks.

Moving on i always pick the sword. Who needs good defence if you can kill your enemy before it can hurt you

Gummi Ship building and flying seemed too much of a chore in KH1 and after the first playthrough i lost interest in it. KH2 was better. There was just more variety in the way you could build your ship and each world had a different pathway for you to fly through, as opposed to just different obsticles and enemies.

Weapon: Keep Shield and lose Staff on first run, mix it up from there
Gummi: Each had a different aspect that was enjoyable, but II was easier to do on lower levels.
