    Portal 2

Is there another thread for it? I tried to search around but didn't see it. Has anyone got it? We have it, LOVE IT! I'm very excited about the co op portion of it, we just got the game this week and between wedding appointments and work we haven't had a chance to do it.

    Re: Portal 2

Winnest game ever to win. As epic as the original was, the creators themselves said it was more of an experiment than a finished game, this time it's a full blown game, and it ****in rocks. Haven't played anything else since I got it actually...
For Our Lord Sheogorath, without Whom all Thought would be linear and all Feeling would be fleeting. Blessed are the Madmen, for they hold the keys to secret knowledge. Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Blessed are the Painlovers, for in their suffering, we grow stronger. Well, it has already been mentioned in Clubs under the 'Villian Themes' thread. You wouldn't be able to post in it though. There's a link placed there that talks about it. I have only played through the first Portal, and I was able to beat it in 1 night. The main character reminds me of Victoria for some reason...

    Re: Portal 2

I'm going through it right now, and all I have to say, it's epic. The first one was great, though way too short I'm afraid, I'm glad Portal 2 doesn't suffer from the same issue. Glados is epic as always, and Wheatley proved to be great addition. Portal 2 made me laugh more than most of today's comedy series, then again, not really a major feat. Also, as strange as it may sound at one point Portal 2 reminded me of Bioschock.

I never played BioShock. Yeah, I'm LOVING it so far! I've made it up to Test Area 28, but had to take a step back as I'm going cross eyed. I love Wheatley!!! Although it reeks of him turning out to be dastardly or something, I'm gonna climb out on a limb and call it.

    Re: Portal 2

I've beaten Portal 2, couple of minutes ago actually. The game ends eventually is the only flaw I could think of. Speaking about the ending few scenes caught me on surprise...

    Spoiler:
...The part where the roof tears off, after clicking randomly I honestly didn't thought I would open portal on moon itself, Glados is gonna kill me after all was my first thought when I saw those turrets aiming at me. For some strange reason I still thought the main character wont get out alive, something bad will happen, anything, if not death, but it seems I was wrong.

The ending song "Want You Gone" was great, funny, though not nearly epic as "Still Alive" form first Portal. Wheatley's first test made me laugh, shows how stupid he really is, other tests in that chapter, and the one after that were surprisingly easy, strange as game was almost at it's end. I had less difficulty beating it than first Portal, though to be honest I did resort to walkthrough once, I had difficulties solving one particular test, the one with two cubes, and three laser beams.

All in all an epic game, can't wait for the upcoming DLC.

    Re: Portal 2

I beat it myself a few days ago... life's been crazy for me right now so didn't get a chance to update it.

my own musings on the ending:
I freaking LOVED the ending!!! I loved Glados's rant at the end of it all, on how before she meets Chell life was simple. She tested, didn't get shoved into potatoes and didn't have birds try and eat her.

Not gonna lie, I was surprised when Glados dragged Chell back in at the end. And was kind of worried when she deleted the Caroline part of her.

I did some achievement whoring, the only one I am missing now for the single player part is the Overclocker one, where you have to beat that one test chamber in 90 seconds. My guy and I are working on getting the ones for the co op part of it.

    SPOILER!!:
Yeah, soon as I heard "Caroline deleted" I was getting ready for another boss lol.

Glados was awesome all throughout this game. One of the best things I remember her saying was when you found her potato getting eaten by birds, "Say, you're good at murder. Could you - ow - murder this bird for me?", I almost cried laughing.

There's been no Necroposting in this thread.

Other than that, did anyone find the little Easter Egg for Portal 2?
    Spoiler:
    ...finding the Borealis ship dock?

I think you and your hubby to be need to start a petition here for Portal-Arcade. I would love for someone to dev a Portal game for the Arcade here. Someone would probably have to get permissions, but that would just kiack @$$.

We should also make this the Portal and Portal 2 Quote Thread.

"Didn't we have some fun, though? Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said 'goodbye', and you were like 'no way'? And then I was all 'we pretended we were going to murder you'. That was great." ~Portal

    Ha ha ha, brilliant.

My fave was when you got intro'd to the Faith Plates.

"Look at you! Flying through the air majestically, like an eagle...piloting a blimp."

    Bwhahahahahahaha

ETA: Had to include my fave Cave Johnson quote:

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

    Re: Portal 2

I didn't think anybody would be as epicly quotable as Glados, ever. Then came a man who proved me wrong.

"Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out? Because you are fired! Yes you, box your stuff, out the front door, parking lot, car, goodbye!"

"Just a heads up, we're gonna have a super conductor turned up full blast and pointed at you for the duration of this next test. I'll be honest, we're throwing science at the walls here to see what sticks. No idea what it'll do. Best case scenario, you might get some superpowers! Worst case, some tumors... which we'll cut out."

"All these science spheres are made of asbestos by the way, keeps out the rats. Let us know if you feel a shortness of breath, a persistent dry cough or your heart stopping, because that's not part of the test - that's asbestos.
Good news is, the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show a median latency of forty-four point six years, so if you're thirty or older, you're laughing. Worst case scenario, you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator and it makes a happy face."

"Alright this next test may involve trace amounts of time travel. So word of advice: if you meet yourself on the testing track don't make eye contact. Lab boys tell me that'll wipe out time - entirely. Forward and backward. So do both of yourselves a favor and let that handsome devil go about his business."

"Ha! I like your style, you make up your own rules just like me.
Beancounter said I couldn't fire a man just for being in a wheelchair - did it anyway! Ramps are expensive."

"This first test involves something the lab-boys call repulsion gel. You're not part of the control group by the way - you get the gel. Last poor son of a gun got blue paint, ha ha ha! All joking aside, that did happen. Broke every bone in his legs - tragic. But informative! Or so I'm told."

"Oh, in case you got covered in that repulsion gel, here's some advice the lab-boys gave me: Do NOT get covered in the repulsion gel! We haven't entirely nailed down what element it is yet, but I'll tell you this: it's a lively one and it does not like the human skeleton."

"The lab boys just informed me that I should not have mentioned the control group, they're telling me I ought to stop making these pre-recorded messages - that gave me an idea: make more pre-recorded messages! I pay the bills here! I can talk about the control group all damn day!"

"Those of you helping us test the repulsion gel today, just follow the blue line on the floor. Those of you who volunteered to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news: bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men! Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line. You'll know when the test starts."

"The average human male is about 60% water. Far as we're concerned that's a little extravagant. So if you feel a bit dehydrated in this next test, that's normal. We're gonna hit you with some jet engines and see if we can't get you down to 20 or 30 percent."

"For this next test we put nanoparticles in the gel. In layman's terms, that's a billion little gizmos that are gonna travel into your bloodstream and pump experimental genes and RNA molecules and so forth into your tumours. Now maybe you don't have any tumours. Well don't worry, if you sat on a folding chair in the lobby and weren't wearing lead underpants we took care of that too."

"If you've cut yourself at all in the course of these tests, you may have noticed that your blood is pure gasoline - that's normal. We've been shooting you with an invisible beam that's supposed to turn blood into gasoline, so all that means is it's working."

"Just a heads up: that coffee we gave you earlier had fluorescent calcium in it so we can track the neuronic activity in your brain. There's a slight chance the calcium could harden and vitrify your frontal lobe. Anyway, don't stress yourself thinking about it. I'm serious, visualizing the scenario while under stress actually triggers the reaction."

"If you need to go the bathroom in this next series of tests, please let test associates know. Because in all likelihood, whatever comes out of you is going to be coal. Only temporary, so do not worry. If it persists for a week though, start worrying and come see us, because that's not supposed to happen."

"If you're allergic to peanuts, you may want to tell somebody now, because this next test may turn your blood into peanut water for a few minutes. On the bright side, if we can make this happen they're going to have to invent a new kind of Nobel Prize to give us, so hang in there!"

"Now if you're part of control group Kepler-7, we planted a tiny microchip, about the size of a postcard, into your skull. Most likely you've forgotten it's even there, but if it starts vibrating and beeping during this next test let us know, because that means it's about to hit about 500 degrees so we're gonna need to go ahead and get that out of you pretty fast."

"Alright, we're working on a little teleportation experiment. Now this doesn't work with all skin types, so try to remember which skin is yours, and if it doesn't teleport along with you we'll do what we can to sew you right back into it."

"Greetings friend. I'm Cave Johnson, CEO of Aperture Science. You might know us as a vital participant of the 1968 senate hearing on missing astronauts, and you've most likely used one of the many products we invented but other people have somehow managed to steal from us. Black Mesa can eat my bankrupt..."

"So, welcome to Aperture. You're here because we want the best and you're it. Nope, couldnt keep a straight face. Anyway, don't smudge up the glass down there. In fact, why don't you just go ahead and not touch anything unless it's test related."

"Now you might be asking yourself, "Cave, just how difficult are these tests?", "What was in that phonebook of a contract I signed?", "Am I in danger?". Let me answer those questions with a question: who wants to make $60? Cash. You can also feel free to relax for up to 20 minutes in the wating room, which is a damn sight more comfortable than the park benches most of you were sleeping on when we found you. For many of you, I realized $60 is an unprecedented windfall, so don't go spending it all on, I don't know - Caroline, what do these people buy? Tattered hats? Beard dirt?"

"Thank you, I can't believe I'm thanking these people, for staggering through Aperture Science's propulsion gel testing. You've made some real contributions to society for a change, and for that humanity is grateful. If you had any belongings, please pick them up now - we don't want old newspapers and sticks cluttering up the building."

"Hey, listen up down there! That thing's called an elevator - not a bathroom."

"If you're interested in an additional $60, flag down a test associate and let them know. You could walk out of here with 120 weighing down your bindle, if you'll let us take you apart, put some science stuff in you, and put you back together. Good as new.

In case you're interested, there's still some positions available for that bonus oppurtunity I mentioned earlier. Again: all you gotta do is let us disassemble you; we're not banging rocks together here, we know how to put a man back together. So, that's a complete reassembly, new vitals, spit-shine on the old ones, plus we're scooping out tumors. Frankly, you ought to be paying us."

"Now, the beancounters told me we literally could not afford to buy 7 dollars worth of moon rocks, much less 70 million. Bought 'em anyway! Ground them up, mixed them into a gel, and guess what: ground-up moon rocks are pure poison."

And last, but certainly not least... easily the greatest line in the entire game...

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I DON'T WANT YOUR DAMN LEMONS! What am I supposed to do with these?! Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'M THE MAN WHO's GONNA BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN! With the lemons! I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

There is almost nothing Cave said that wasn't pure gold. Best character ever.

Steven Merchant was absolutely brilliant in this.

    Spoiler:
He plays such a hilarious/ignorant character for a "bad guy", it's like nothing I've ever experienced before for a bad guy role. I'd love to see more villains like that.

    ~More Portal quotes~

"There was even going to be a party for you. A big party that all your friends were invited to. I invited your best friend the companion cube. Of course, he couldn't come because you MURDERED HIM. All your other friends couldn't come either because you don't have any other friends because of how unlikable you are. Unlikable, it says so here in your personnel file: Unlikable. Liked by no one. A bitter, unlikable loner whose passing shall not be mourned. SHALL. NOT. BE. MOURNED. That's exactly what it says. Very formal. Very official. It also says you're adopted, so that's funny too."

"Did you just see that thing that fell off of me. I don't even know what that is."

"I don't blame you." (a turret, after you hit it over)

You have to remember this. The dry sense of humor was great.

You cause youself to fold inward and then collapse in on itself, while rematerializing into another universe or within the same universe with the rest of your ship. Your reference points will be the nearby astrology of wherever you ended up, as well as the age of the nearby stars relative to your current star maps. Go ahead and give me a call or send me an email if I am considered for the position. Thanks. It was nice meeting you.

It is the last game of the entire series.

The first two series, for those of you who don't read or know, were 7 volumes total and all for PS2. There was also an 8th; it was called .hack//Fragment Offline. A lot of people didn't know that I bet. Has anyone read any .hack manga? If you don't plan on getting Link and instead prefer to read, I recommend at least trying out .hack//Link Manga- Read .hack//Link Manga Online for Free at Manga Fox. Let me know what you think.

    Re: Portal 2

While Portal 2 doesn't have many characters, the ones that make appearance are more than well done, actually, they're brilliant. I thought Glados would steal the show once more, and while it was brilliant, if not better, as in first Portal, Cave Johnson is by far the best character, so I'm with Heartless on this one.

Since you guys provided some of the best quotes, I'll contribute as well, though I'll provide a link with all the easter egg's, here's also an interesting article I read, some of you may find it interesting, it's about Chell, mythology behind Portal 2...

    Re: Portal 2

Funny enough, I started the original Portal again the other day and now since playing P2 it makes SO much more sense! There's even a part where you find one of the back rooms and its got scrawled on the wall "Login: cjohnson", both my fiancé and I were like "OMG! CAVE JOHNSON!!!". Didn't catch that at ALL in the first time playing it.
