It is a great upgrade from the original! You should get it if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed.
As far as my favorite Zelda game, it would be this one.
Anyone have it yet? Does it really look 3D-ish? Any other comparisons/improvements you'd like to make towards the original?
And for more discussion, what is your favorite Zelda game?

It does look amazing. Nintendo came into work when they were promoting Ocarina of Time 3D, and they had both versions set up so you could see the differences. It looks really good in 3D too - it's very 3D. Although you can turn the 3D off, or tweak it to suit you.
In fact, when I get a 3DS, it'll be the first game I pick up. Just waiting for a preowned red one to come into stock... oh yeeeah.
Thanks. I've been getting the urge to pick up a 3DS and the game, but I'm thinking I'll wait until my current video game playthrough is done.

It's a good game, definitely not a waste of money. It brought all the fun of the N64 version and made it better, as in sharper graphics. As for my favorite game, it woulod have to be The Ocarina of Time, both versions.

I'm not a graphic's whore but Ocarina of Time 3D doesn't look nearly as good as some are willing to claim. I had privilege to play it at my friends house, while it does look smother and has more details it's still same blocky game with blurry textures. Aside smoother graphics and 3D effect, which for I don't give a damn, Ocarina of Time doesn't offer anything new to those who played original several times, such as myself. If you ask me, I would rather buy original Ocarina of Time as I became proud owner of N64 just recently.
As for my favorite Zelda game, it's Link Awakening even though Ocarina of Time is truly the best game in the series. It's a great game with strong nostalgic feel to it, it has also a huge sentimental value to me, thus my favorite.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to getting this game not for the 3D graphics, but for the plain fact that I can play it ANYWHERE. I agree with you Xanatos, investing in an N64 for the original is indeed worth it as I really haven't seen major differences in the graphics. Sure, there are certain scenes that look pretty in 3D, but I couldn't play it that way all the time. After awhile I get a headache (my best friend has it so I've borrowed it from her off and on).
As for my favorite Zelda game, this is it hands down. It's one of my favorite games ever, but definitely the best in the series.
I liked the demo. Unfortunately, I don't have the 3DS yet.
Put the game side by side with an original, you'll see the difference. The 3DS and DS are sub par as far as graphics go anyways. But its still a pretty vast improvement.
If I'm not mistaken the game is actually the master quest version of the game, which wasn't released until much later on the GameCube with rearranged dungeons.
Is was the only reason I bought my 3DS and I have to say it was fun, but I'd rather play it on the big screen.
The 3D was beautiful, works well with the game even though I'm not a fan of 3D technology.
I bought it recently with my 3DS. Quite frankly, OoT is what swayed me to finally getting one in the first place.
I will be honest, I never played the N64 version, but always wanted to. So with this being resonably new to me (I have only ever played a couple of other Zelda titles), I went into it with slightly different expectations.
The end result? I love it. The gameplay is a lot of fun, the graphics look great especially in full 3D (save for a few textures), and the whole setting of the game is good too. The characters are great too.
So being relatively new to this kind of Zelda gameplay (the only other games I played were the original and Phantom Hourglass), I have loved it so far. Definitely worth checking out.
Of course there's a difference, just not "OMG, this game looks amazing" compared to other one, something you could actually experience with original Resident Evil and it's REmake. Speaking of REmake, aside stunning overhaul, it came with 30% of new content, if not more. Content which hasn't been seen or played years before which unfortunately is the case with Ocarina of Time 3DS.
Those who didn't have privilege to play original Ocarina of Time, and those who are easily impressed by shiny new effects, by all means, as for us who played it God knows how many times, pretty much identical game with nothing new to offer simply won't cut it.

Comparing console to console remake versus a console to handheld isn't exactly fair. I wouldn't exactly call OoT a remake either, more like an HD update. But anything that is re-released with some kind of update to it is usually labeled "Remake".
The game has some pretty noticeable changes that look pretty darn good IMO. Obviously I don't expect some masterful remake on a 3DS. I don't think people expected the Final Fantasy games ported to the DS to be amazingly eye popping.
As for additional content. You didn't really expect them to do much with most of the team working on Skyward Sword. They just needed something to push the point of buying the 3DS. And that additional content has exactly always been in existence since the RE's original release, or even the Directors Cut for that matter. I'm sure their are changes Miyamoto would like to make to OoT, but like i said. I'm sure he spent most of his time on SS.
I would be inclined to agree if only 3DS wasn't as strong as it is. 3DS is in fact capable of running near like XBox 360 graphics as seen from videos and images of new Resident Evil game developed for it. There's even article on it on IGN.
As for those Final Fantasy games you mentioned, both Final Fantasy III & IV are prime examples as to how a proper remake should look like. Both games use highly limited strength of DS to the fullest, both are ported to 3D which was quite impressive. Both games gained more depth regarding both story and gameplay, more content such as new abilities, mini games, sidequests, extra dungeons... quite opposite to Ocarina of Time 3DS, wouldn't you agree?
And yes, I actually do expect from them to offer me something new aside from updated graphics, something worth my while, otherwise what's the point of buying literally exact same game I played dozen times and already own.
Regarding Resident Evil REmake, seriously? REmake added new puzzles, enhanced old ones, new locations, new secrets, several new endings, stunning graphical and sound overhaul, even little touch to already stale gameplay... Shinji Mikami said that the remake is 70% different from the original, even if some of those elements have already been seen in later games it's still huge addition over original one.

You're joking right?
The 3ds runs a ARM11 CPU running 266Mhz vs a 360 which runs 3 cores at 3.2Ghz... meaning it is not even close
3ds runs 64mb of on-board RAM with 8mb of VRAM vs the 360 running 512mb unified Ram... literally more than 5 times the memory.
On-board storage on the 3ds is 1.5gb whereas the early model of the 360 already sported a 20gb and these days it runs easily 5 times that and even the arcade has more than 3 times the storage of the 3ds.
GPU on the 3ds is a PICA-200 running 133mhz vs the 360s ATI Xenos with two separate silicon dies, each built on a 90 nm process with a clock speed of 500 MHz
Anything from RE: Revelations proves coding, not power.
Nor do we have any idea what the framerate from the gameplay has been running. Not to mention the resolution is lower on the handheld. So no its not a fair comparison.
I'd like to see a link as to those game pushing the DS to its potential. I've seen better graphical games that have just as much content as those FF's.As for those Final Fantasy games you mentioned, both Final Fantasy III & IV are prime examples as to how a proper remake should look like. Yes it got remade to 3D models. OoT would be an example of it being ported to a third dimension. Aside from the new mode they included and a re"imagined" dungeons and other minor content. It may have had a prior release, but its not hugely available. Well it wasn't for the first year or so when it came out.
Then don't buy it. If you already own master quest and see no reason why to have it to have updated graphics and it being portable, then just leave it. Not everyone has a gamecube, or a copy of Ura Zelda lying around. I'm willing to bet a lot of people don't even have a N64 anymore. A new generation of gamers who haven't played it. Just a few of the many reason why someone might buy or re-buy it.And yes, I actually do expect from them to offer me something new aside from updated graphics, something worth my while, otherwise what's the point of buying literally exact same game I played dozen times and already own.
Its the second best selling on the 3DS, so its at least a success. Or maybe we are just a bunch of fanboys. Who knows.
Was it that awful of a game when originally made?Regarding Resident Evil REmake, seriously? All joking aside. Yeah it was a good remake, i never said it wasn't, but not all games need a remake like that. Like i said Miyamoto might want to re-imagine OoT. Maybe not, its constantly boasted as the best game of all time, best zelda game of all time, best... well you get the point.
Mikami obviously wasn't satisfied with the game and he made one hell of a remake. But neither still have anywhere near the fame OoT does.
[QUOTE] You'll have to forgive my stupidity, can't say I was familiar with 3DS specs and yet I was foolish enough to make assumptions on few poorly written or perhaps poorly read articles. Still, as seen, 3DS is capable of some impressive feats, and from the looks of it Ocarina of Time failed to use half of that potential.
It didn't just stop at revamping it to 3D which honestly would be enough seeing as Square has a habit of literally porting games with little to no difference to their original source. After that it was what else can we add to make these games more appealing and perhaps even more fresh to those who already played it. In Nintendo's case it was, can you make it little bit prettier, and that was pretty much it. I think GameFreak can be used as a good example as well as they did a remarkable job on HeartGold & SoulSilver.I'd like to see a link as to those game pushing the DS to its potential. As mentioned in my previous posts, those who never had a privilege to play original Ocarina of Time, or perhaps don't own a copy should by all means purchase 3DS version, but that was never my main issue. As I've stated several times so far, Ocarina of Time doesn't offer anything new, aside "pretty" graphics, to those who already played it God knows how many times, my main grudge through several posts if by any chance you haven't noticed. Then don't buy it. If it's only graphics then perhaps it's not a remake to begin with, rather a HD update. I'm not sure you understand, but original Resident Evil was never re-imagined, the main core (story, characters, setting, and most of oldschool survival horror gameplay) stayed pretty much intact. Messing with main core is never a wise thing, Mikami just added tons of extra content which with stunning graphical and sound overhaul made a good game even better. I'm also not sure where you're heading with popularity thing, no matter how popular game it is and how well it will sell, it's no justification to make a shabby remake. Was it that awful of a game when originally made?
