I don't know whats gone over the heads of Nintendo HQ to come up with the announced Wii Mini. This beautiful red colored console is a top loading Wii console minus internet capabilities, and still no gamecube compatibility and its headed for Canada so far. No announcement has been made for a U.S. release. I SUPPOSE if you were able to solder a NIC to the system's motherboard you may able to get internet, and you MIGHT be able to hack it. If you don't mind owning a Wii without internet capabilities (no access to Wiiware, VC, or other downloadable channels), Netflix streaming, Hulu plus, or internet browser surfing, its yours for 99.99 if you live in Canada.

I personally think this is a BAD marketing idea especially after launching the Wii U not too long ago. What are your thoughts on the matter? EDIT: One more thing I'd like to add, its like Canada asked for a sandwich and the provider proceeded to give the sandwich to them not before taking a bite out of it.

It's a cheaper option, and options are always good. It's not like they can't get a normal Wii if they want one.

Considering how little I use the internet or BC on my Wii, I'd say it's a pretty good option, too.

Actually... It really isn't, you can get a pre-owned Wii cheaper than that and get everything the Wii featured back then. You'd be getting ripped off with this model.

Keyword being pre-owned. If you're looking for a new Wii, it's the best price you're going to find. The older features aren't a factor if you're already considering this Wii. Someone who would consider this isn't looking for them. Just because this isn't for you doesn't mean there aren't people this is good for.

Well since the redesigned Wii doesn't carry backwards compatibility with GC the only thing you are really losing is the internet connection.

Does anyone actually use internet capabilities on the Wii?

Sure for hardcore gamers this thing is a big no no. But has Nintendo ever really appealed to hardcore gamers? It seems that Nintendo has usually stuck to the casual crowd and this thing would suit a casual person just fine.
Nintendo's online capabilities are garbage regardless. I would have seen this appeal to a lot of people had it been released earlier. Thats the only real downfall I see here.

Can someone post the real logic behind this, from Nintendo's point of view? Why is it only released in Canada and nowhere else? And I agree about it being a bad marketing idea because of U Wii. This is a very bad idea.

I actually see the logic of this and it's the type of thing that I've advocated for a few years. Nintendo has probably done some market research on the matter and found that people don't like buying pre-owned: I don't even like buying pre-owned and I'm a professional who knows that consumer rights in the UK prevent faulty pre-owned games from.

This is essentially the Wii's answer to the slim PS3, the reason they're only launching in Canada is because Canada is, in game-business terms, a miniature version of the USA and North American demographic. If the console bombs in Canada, it's not really a big deal because Nintendo don't spend a lot of money marketing in the non-'key' countries (USA, Japan and sometimes UK), but if the console were to bomb in the USA it would have a negative impact on sales in the US. If the console is successful in Canada it will likely be introduced in other countries.

After the non-too-revolutionary launch of the WiiU and PS Vita, Nintendo are actually doing something console companies don't really do: being cautious. Marketing a console and launching in the United States is way more expensive than doing so in Canada. And this time there is no 'guaranteed sales'
