    MMO addiction?

Do many of you guys play MMOs? Im definitely starting to realize i have a bad addiction to MMOs and they are taking a toll on my psychological health, im not condemning anyone for being a MMO-er, but I think its time for me to stop em.

My problem is i get super stressed out with them and then i get mentally exhausted to do real life things, and i do suffer a little mood disorder so that kinda magnifies the tension for me.

but gosh i love video games too much, so i am thinking i will just stick to single player games like....FINAL FANTASY

what other games do yall like as single player? i done elder scrolls, fables, but mostly MMOS like wow, swtor, gw2, eve, etc...

im thinking of picking up a call of duty game cuz i kinda want a FPS game....do call of duty games have a good single player experience? i know people mostly get them for Multiplayer....my last COD game was COD 4, should i keep going up the series, or should i just get the latest one? which one do yall recommend?

I also hear some people say BF3 is the best now, but idk how the single player story is.

i dont think i get badly addicted to single player games, cuz usually after a couple hours i can stop and go do something else - but my MMO binges are like time machines.

been reading about em a lot online, i thought this article was a huge eye opener.

I use to be addicted to MMO's when WoW first came out. Back in its innocent days.

I was a 8th grader when the game first released and not surprisingly I got my worse grades. My life basically came to an end when I started playing.
No social life, no school life, nothing. I played WoW from 2:30PM to 2AM everyday, slept for 5 hours and went to school. Came home and did the whole think all over again.
I'm lucky we didn't have attendance credit in Jr. High because the amount of time I missed was enormous. My grades dropped to a 1.8, the only class I was passing was P.E., Math, and History I think.

Needless to say, I quit the game. Worked on my grades and now I'm not so addicted to gaming anymore. I mean I play all the time, but work, school, friends, and family all take precedence over gaming.

If you are going to play an FPS, just wait for Halo 4. Its right around the corner and looking to be the best Halo yet.

I play MMOs on occasion, if I play any these days, it would be Realm of the Mad God. Its such a great rouge-like game. You start out with only one class and can unlock other job classes as you advance levels and there are sooo many people on. There are things called trains where there are a line of people running around the field killing enemies and everyone in the crowd get exp for being in the vicinity. The best part about this game is the fact that its free!

I'm planning to get DoA 5 as soon as possible and join the online crew for some hardcore online brawling, should call for some good fun, really looking forward to it.

I Play MMO's And Video Games. To Be Honest, I Play Video Games A Lot, But That Is Just Cause I Like Them. It Doesn't Mean That I Would Quit Everything Else Because Of A Game. Sure, I Might Play A Lot More Than Most People, But I Too Have A Life. I Like To Do Stuff Other Then Play Games As Well, Even Though It Is One Thing That I Do More Than Anything Else, Except For Sleeping. That Is Only Because I Am A Gamer. If Someone Tells Me They Want To Hang Out Right Now, I Would Be Like, Yeah, Lets Go Do Stuff. Or, Wanna Go To The Movies? I Will Be Like, Hell Yeah, Let's Go! It Really Depends On The Person Though. The Only Reason Why I Would Keep Playing MMO's Is Because Of The Social Aspect Of It. I Am A Social Person, So Yeah, It Makes The Game More Awesome. However, I Don't Let It Change My Life For The Worst. I Really Only Play Games If There Is Nothing Else Fun Or Good To Do To Kill Time. The Only Reason I Play Games Is To Kill Time, But Have Fun Doing It. That Is Just My Opinion On This.

Ive never played an MMO before. A couple of my guy friends play but thats all. When I read gaming news there are a lot ads for them, the girls are really pretty..yeh thats all i got. I only got into gaming cause I love the single-player experience, so recently I've just been playing my favourites such as MGS, Ace Attorney, FFVII, DMC3 and Zelda. I don't play shooters unless I'm pissed off heh but I am waiting for Halo 4, I love Halo too. An addiction of any kind can never lead to a good thing. Life's about balance. But I have turned down invitations to parties just so I can play games. I couldnt care less.

You guys should check this out. It's a very interesting Documentary about unethical game design and the addictive nature of some Games, especially MMO's. What's fascinating about this Doc is that the guys who made are are the guys who should be defending this stuff... The designers themselves. It isn't the usual anti-Video games morons who will bash games anyway. It's a very good watch, food for though... And as it proves, Yes... MMO's are not only addictive, but they are designed to be that way

I started playing WoW over a month ago, and I was hooked for the first couple of weeks levelling up my rogue, Kaidzi. He remains on level 82 as I've not played WoW in about three weeks, heh. I really should get back to it and make use of the triple experience I have for being referred to the game.

I don't think I could get addicted to it though. Sure, those first few weeks had me not wanting to stop for anything else, but the hype died down fast. When Mists of Pandaria came out, I didn't even get to play much of that. I made my monk, levelled her to fifteen and shut it off.

Heard WoW got hacked recently though. Someone made a level 1 priest and was able to use mounts and fly around instant killing both player and computer controlled characters. Some people have far too much time on their hands.

Sort of, but only right when I'm starting an MMO. After I've got the levels and the gear, I become a casual again. Like WoW, I was no lifing the shit out of that game when I started, I hit level 70 in a week (with the help of recuit a friend bonus to 60 though). Once I'm leveled though, I only log in a couple times a week to raid. I've been a bit more active on it recently just because of the new Xpac, so I'm leveling again, but it goes fast enough (and rested XP gives me nearly as much xp for NOT playing as I get playing). Once I'm leveled again, I'll run randoms for a while until I've got some decent gear so I'm ready to raid, then I'll go back to getting on twice a week to run raids.
For Our Lord Sheogorath, without Whom all Thought would be linear and all Feeling would be fleeting. Blessed are the Madmen, for they hold the keys to secret knowledge. Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Blessed are the Painlovers, for in their suffering, we grow stronger. Blessed is the Madgod, who tricks us when we are foolish, punishes us when we are wrong, tortures us when we are unmindful, and loves us in our imperfection.

    Oh god pls no lol.

I don't understand how MMOs are supposed to be stressful? If anything they are very stress free and good for decompressing oneself after a long day, much like other videogames. I can understand playing first person shooters against other foul-behaved people can be stressful, but mmos...really?

I don't get it, how isn't it looking to be the best halo yet? Because it doesn't have teh BXR's and dbl shots?!?!
Or are you more afraid of the emphasis on team added with the loadouts? (I assure you its nothing like a CoD loadout).

MMO's (in my experience) are really stress free when you are leveling. But as you get into the Arena, RBGS, Raiding, and any other end level content, its a constant struggle to keep up with gear and knowledge of the game to stay on top.

Yeah I feel you on the arenas, bg's/rbg's and raiding. My first (and consistent) MMO was/is WOW and it is stress free to a certain point but my rage comes from PvP (PVE isn't my cup of tea). It's frustrating having a fresh level capped toon and getting pvp gear from scratch.

#1 Other level capped players doing the same
#2 Noobs who don't know the mechanics of winning/helping the cause of the bg/rbg
#3 Players who are there just to kill and win in the process of them being noobs (fighting in mid, not protecting the flag carrier, heals, or killing enemy heals ya'll know what I'm saying )

I still play WOW & have the expansions and it's been taking away my stress so it's a win-win for me. I'm not so much as addicted to playing it right now cause I have a life (work, kids, an ever needy woman) but as an addiction naw. I split my stress with mary jane so I don't lean on WOW as an addiction .

MMOs are addictive to a point but it really depends on a lot of factors, I think a lot of the appeal for most people is from their first game when the idea is relatively new and they are exploring a large world for the first time with a big enough community. I think WoW really did this well in the beginning with the exploration and there was a real sense of progression. I feel they failed when they changed their focus onto getting everybody easily into raiding that people lost their sense of accomplishment. When I played WoW back in TBC I felt amazing when I finally got to Black Temple, working towards something amazing like that felt really rewarding but when it changed it just gradually lost its appeal. I think they should have kept the system they had in TBC.
