At the start of the gane when you've got to fight that huge shadow thing you fight alone.... When you fight Leon in Traverse Town when you first meet him.. If you choose to go in a cup alone then you're on your own....And after you're done fighting Ansem and his guardian the first time with Donald and Goofy you have to fight him again but this time by yourself :]... I believe I have all the times but I could have missed one

Also note that these weapons somehow magically appear. There's a club shaped weapon, a weapon with a star at the tip, and a weapon with a hand-grip. The club increases Strength by 1, the Star-Tipped weapon increases Magic by 1, and the weapon with a hand-grip increases Defense by 1.
