I apologize in advance if anyone finds title of this thread to be offensive.
I have hard time understanding how can one play for hours without saving his or hers progress thus risk losing huge amount of playthrough which apparently happens a lot. I for one have this nasty habit of saving quite often, like every five minutes. I have over 600 saves in Mass Effect 2 alone, even more in Dragon Age Origins. Last time I lost good chunk of my playthrough was while playing Final Fantasy XII, I was near a save point though, but I guess electric company wanted to tease with me.
How often do you save your progress, and do you remember the last time you lost good chunk of your playthrough?
I try to save often, but sometimes I get in this groove, or zone, or whatever, and then decide that I don't need to save.
I did manage to get to the Psycho Mantis battle MGS without saving once, once. I wanted to know what Mantis was going to say about it when he read my mind. Then, when he killed me using Meryl, I was so mad.
I don't save often, even though i have had a few instances of running through the same thing multiple times. I usually try to save if it gets to the point of where I've died over 5 times. That or rage quit.
If there is a save-point,I save at it. Its a habit for me to save as much as I can because I hate and fear losing huge amounts of unsaved data lol. The last time I lost a good amount of unsaved playthrough..hmm..I guess while playing FF3(DS). I had leveled up my characters alot..and I mean like six or more levels and for some stupid reason..I didn't save it. I went to go fight...some boss in Eureka(i think it was the ninja-looking one) and..I got my butt kicked. All those long hours leveling..gone. That has been about two weeks ago...and I haven't picked it up since lol.

I try to save as soon as I see a save point or get a chance in the break of the game, but I occasionally forget. Nothing more frustrating than to get an hour or two into a game and dying to some BS random encounter, it's just depressing and makes me not want to play the game for awhile sometimes lol. Thank God for Mass Effect 2's constant autosaving after every encounter. Without it, I'd probably never have the patience to beat it on Insanity lol.

Then again this one is kind of on the outs with me if she doesn't straighten up and fly right so that means I will be back in it for the thrill of the kill. Got some in the reserves. Even got a rePETEr (<---- like that ay? AYYYYY?) on the back burner.
Block: I do like the rePETEr except it kinda makes it sound like you're going to pork Pete. No homo.

I have the habit of not saving for hours. You would think I would learn after I had a power cut and lost 4 hours of unsaved Dragon Quest VIII data (over which I rage quit and never finished the game). Even if I try to save often, I never get round to it. Before I know it, when I save, two hours have passed since my last save.
I have been lucky in the past, but horribly unlucky too. If Skyrim didn't have auto save, I'd probably throw it out the window everytime it freezes.
Only save often when it comes to School work. I really don't care if I lose 30 minutes, just a chance to do it better.
The only time I really got mad was Dark Cloud, I literally did all of Queens without saving, had this badass weapon....forgot to save............lost like hours of gameplay, never played Dark Cloud again.

I save often, especially in games where there are abundant save points, or games where you can save whenever. Rarely will I go past a save point without saving.
And I get frustrated when I have to repeat sections of a game because I died. Happened to me recently in Skyrim. I didnt lose a lot of time, maybe only 10 minutes, but still frustrating

^ This.
I tend to save quite excessively. If there's just been a large cutscene with no way of skipping (a-la Kingdom Hearts) and I know it's about to happen I usually save both before and after if there's a save point nearby. I hate it when there's a large pre-battle speech by a villian only to be killed moments later and have to watch it all over again.
Because I save so often I don't tend to lose large amounts of progress when it all goes pear shaped. Except in FFX when I had just completed exploring the Omega Ruins for the first time and was just about to return to save my progress when I was ambushed by a Malboro. I stopped playing it for a while after that.
