    Good Old PS1 games

I would like to know what good old ps1 games you guys remember playing, I remember playing FFVII, Spyro 1, 2, and 3, Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3:Time Warped, Silent Hill 1, Alundra, Legend of the Dragoon, Gran Tourismo(is that how it's spelled?) 2, Driver 2, and FFIX.

On Driver 2, I took busses and parked them in the garage, because I was bored most of the time, then the first time I played Silent Hill I got lost so easily, it wasnt cool, haha, when I started Alundra, I immediatly fell in love with that game, it was amazing, a boy jumping into peoples nightmares and freeing them, but yet when you wern't doing that, you were out and about trying to help people, or to unlock secrets about the story, it was amazing. I loved Legend of the Dragoon, it was like literally the first RPG I've ever played, it was awesome, really hard for my young age at the time, I bet if I went back to it now, I could play it and be a beast at it.... Nah, haha. Crash Bandicoot 2 was the first game I ever remembered playing on my PS1, it was amazing, I loved riding the dinosaur around and running away from giant snowballs on the polar bear, that game was classic awesomeness, I never beat it though, but it was awesome, I think that Spyro was my next favorite, I remember Tree Tops the most, it took me 5 days to beat that level, it made me soo mad, but it was worth it, I pwned Nasty Gnork (How ever it is spelled) and I got the secret treasure room on my first playthrough! it was awesome!!!!!!! I also played FFVII and FFIX, I thought FFIX was better than FFVII because of how awesome the beginning was, that was funny, trying to kidnap the princess, yet she wanted to be kidnapped, haha, how ironic.

Anyways, what were some of you guys' favorite PS1 games and why?
    Final Fantasy games played:1,2,3,6,7,9,10,12,13
    Final Fantasy games beaten:7,10,13

I really didnt get too much into 1-3, I got about halfway through 6, didnt play 9 that much, and played 12 at a friends house.

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

I had a lot of favourites on the PS1, and a lot of games to choose from. I had LOADS of games (which are almost all gone now ). Among my favourites were Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, 3, Crash Team Racing, Spyro The Dragon 1, 2, 3, Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3, Medievil 1, 2, Apocalypse, WWF Smackdown 1, 2, Kula World. The list goes on and on. I've managed to salvage some of them, and some others I've been able to get on PSN.

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

I didn't get to own many PSOne games, but I played a lot with my friend when I would spend the night at her house.

The ones that I owned were FF VII, VIII, and IX, along with the first Spyro the Dragon. Lots of fun were had with those games. The Final Fantasy games were enjoyable because I really dug the stories and visuals. I remember popping in FF VIII for the first time, and the opening was so beautifully done that I would start a new game just to see it.

Spyro was fun, though was fairly hard to complete. Oh, I could beat the final boss, but going around and finding all the jewels, freeing the dragons and getting all the eggs back was a lot of work, and some seemed pretty impossible to get when I played the game back in the day. Still fun though, and a good challenge too.

I watched my friend play Tomb Raider all the time, and I've always meant to pick up one of those games for myself, but just never have... It seems cool though.

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

My favourite PSOne games which got the most hours from me was Final Fantasy VII and VIII, Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer, Metal Gear Solid and all of the Tomb Raider games.

I remember playing Wild 9, Shadowman and Rayman, which were close favourites, but my brother didn't get into them as much as I did and they went unplayed very often. Instead, we both played Dino Crisis 2 together a lot more - even mum got involved.

    When I went to my aunt's house, we used to play Soul Reaver a lot. My uncle dropped some of his games off for us one weekend when we were staying over, and in the bag was Resident Evil: Nemesis, which I fell in love with. But he was tight and wouldn't let me borrow it for a few more days so I could finish it. Me and my brother didn't own either of the games. ;-;

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

So I remember a few, among them is probably the best Dragon BallZ game I ever played caled Dragon Ball Z Legends. At the time my friend only had an import of it so everything was in Japanese but the game was so legendary, the ones out now are good but nowhere near as good as this one was. Wishing it would get a sequel but nooo everyone likes this up close nonsense they're coming out with now.

Then there are FFIX, VIII, and VII along with FF Anthology, FF Tactics, FF Chronicles, and FF Origins.

Then there is Chrono Cross, awesome game, crapload of characters, sequel to one of my fav RPGs of all time.

Legend of Dragoon, never finished that game because I couldn't get past Rose's damn Dragon Michael.

Harvest Moon... need I say more?

I played a bunch of ps1 games but my main attraction back then was N64.

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

Similar to Dodie I did not own many PS1 games, in fact I own none till I got a PS2 for Christmas in 2002(?). I was not a big gamer before that; I had a Genesis and a PC both consisting mostly of sports games. Since then I have had a nice amount good memories for good PS1 games. Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy VIII. Final Fantasy IX. The Legend of Dragoon. Xenogears.

Both times I have played Xenogears I am just drawn in so much with the story; how large in scope and themes that are in the story.

I also have FF Origins, FF Chronicles, & FF Anthologies which introduced me to the early part of the series though some of the games were poorly ported - like the GBA versions better.

I do have Breath of Fire III which I've started and stopped a few times. During the Christmas season I bought: Suikoden II, Vagrant Story, & Dragon Quest(Warrior) VII. Lastly I have Chrono Cross. With those RPGs I'm hoping - and expecting - great times.

    Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x

After reading Dr_Flea's post, I forgot to put in grandia, I love Grandina, it is a great game, personally one of my all time favorites for the PS1, I never beat it though, I got to disc 2 and kinda stopped playing it, come to find out a year later when I wanted to pick up the game again, disc 2 was horribly scratched and thus I could never beat the game, I loved how near the end of disc one, Justin and Feena had that romantic part, where they were talking about how sweet the other is and whatnot, only to run into a damn mermaid who made Justin fall in love with her, Feena got upset and whatnot, haha. But my favorite character in Gradia is Gadwin, I love the Dragon Cut he gives to Justin, and It was funny how Justin thought he ate Sue in a stew, haha, that was funny, then Justin got pwned by Gadwin's Dragon Cut, I will always remember how epic that was the first time I saw that, he yelled "Come power of the universe! HA! Dragon king slice!" Then like tons of schokwaves of come out of his sword after he puts it into the ground, haha. I love Gadwin!!! Also his house is a giant fish, its amazing, haha!

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

Due to huge library of excellent games PSOne was, and still is my favorite system. I still do play the oldies, on my PsP, due to convenience, even though I still have a perfectly fine PSOne.

Game such as Final Fantasy IX, my favorite RPG, and game in general, Final Fantasy VIII, Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story, which are excellent RPG-s as well.

Silent Hill 2, survivor horror at it's best, Alone in the Dark, Resident Evil series, games which to this very day are superior to it's successors.

Tekken 2 & 3, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes , Sould Blade, Street Fighter Collection, fans of fighting games hit gold with PS.

Metal Gear Solid, excellent stealth game with mind blowing story, Quake II, Medal of Honor Underground, some of the games that made playing shooters on consoles possible.

Comand & Conquor Red Alert, Warzone 2100, the very best RTS had to offer on consoles.

Gran Turismo 2, to this very day it can be used as a fine example of what racing games should be like, as far as simulation goes, it still pawns some of today's games.

Tony Hawk series, Spiderman & Spiderman Enter Electro, Syphon Filter, Crash Bandicot: Warped, Sheep, Dog,'n' Wolf, Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere, Driver 2, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, International SuperStar Soccer II, Worms Armageddon, Wipeout 3, Monster Rancher 2, LMA Manager 2002...I could go on forever.

What in my opinion made PS the best console of it's time, is both diversity and the fact that it backed every genre with several excellent games.

It suprises me that noone has mentioned Brave Fencer Musashi.
I would consider this the best game ever made. Squaresoft's best.
Zelda like game play(better even), with Final Fantasy story depth and quality.
The game had a good balance of difficultly and acessibility, It had just a perfect amount of cute and cool.

It suprises me that noone has mentioned Brave Fencer Musashi.

That's one of the games i just recently discovered (1-2 year ago) and still haven't played, don't know if i would like it now though

Totally forgot about that story, such fun, i remember all you said and it's 10 years ago since i played.
My favorite is probably Feena, i thought she stuck out the most for some reason, but the others were just as cool, Gadwin was super strong, the others were like bunnys compared to him

I cannot believe I actually forgot Tekken 2 and 3. Wow, I'm an idiot. Oh, and Soul Blade. Those were actually 3 of my favourite games ever. Especially Soul Blade. I've been trying to get a hold of another copy for a while and/or waiting for it to be put on PSN.

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

Ooouuuhhh... I loved those games. *_*

When I was young, I loved to play the Spyro games. I even had all three of them. My favorite was the third one, though. The second was okay, but I think my brother got it for his birthday, so actually it was his game. Aaand I liked collecting the eggs. <3 And I surely loved the flying games you had to do every once in a while. (That's the reason why I don't like the PS2 Spyro games!)

I also liked Crash Bandicoot. But if I remember correctly I only had the second one. Can't remember ever playing the first game... But it was great. Especially riding on various animals in some levels. <3

I said so in the Tomb Raider thread already, I loved the third game of TR. And I really would've liked to play the second one, the one in her house. But we didn't own that. Meh, maybe I have to buy it when I have enough money again. ^^"

Oh and does anyone remember a game called Medieval? It was a game in which you play a skeleton which fights with a sword... I don't remember much and I think I only played the demo then, but I loved that game. Maybe I should go look if there's a sequel for PS2 or such... hmmm...

Also, I played Resident Evil when I was young. Or at least: I watched my brothers playing it. ^^"" I was kinda afraid when they played it, so I only remember that a zombie attacked us in a... kind of kitchen. I don't know. @.@

My brothers didn't like me playing it, but I always played Tekken every once in a while. But I wasn't really able to play it. ^^" I just hit the buttons and jumped all the time. ^^"" I didn't care about fighting that much. Or the story, for that matter. It was just a "kick and jump" game for me. XD"

However, I've never played Final Fantasy on PS1. ^^" I began playing FF about five years ago... ^^"

Besides, my favorite PS1 game still is Spyro the Dragon. :> Loved that game and even started playing it again two years ago. (But I don't like playing games two times, so... I stopped right at the beginning XD)

Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII and IX, Breath of Fire IV, Tekken 1, 2 and 3. Tony Hawks; god knows how many of them. Premier Manager 98, Jade Cocoon, Croc, Star Wars: Dark Forces, Command and Conquer, Resident Evil 1, 2 and Nemesis.

I played a lot of games for my PS1. It was a great console with some great games. I think my most prominent memory would be playing Resident Evil 2 at about 4am with my brother. We were staying in a caravan at the time and I probably needed to change my boxers more than once. Those were the days.

RPG's were real RPG's back then. Not as good as the gen before it but still free roam and fully customisable. Not this sh*t they try to sell us now.

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

@Freya, I totally remember Medevil. (Spelling?) You play as Sir Daniel Fortiskeu(I think...). It was a crazy awesome game, unfortuately it lost its awesomeness for me as I got older...

Anyway, I would like to mention my favorite PSX titles.

Final Fantasy (I-IX) (PSX gen FF games were the best. Even remakes)

Metal Gear Solid (Just played this a month ago and it hypnotized me.I love it)

Tenchu (1-2) (Both are just classics, but the ps2 wrath of heaven was the best)

Spyro (1-3) (These games were amazing, great replay value for finding everything and dragon shores and all. This was the second game series I got into and will always hold a place in my heart)

Crash Bandicoot(1-3 and CTR) (After reading the spyro thing, wonder what my first series was? Well here they are. This game also helped establish Sony's PSX as a consol giant)

Brave Fencer Musashi (Horridly titled, but an amazing game. Seriously...Fencer??? Don't get my hopes up...)

Resident Evil (1-2) (I haven't played three but the others RULED)

Bloody Roar (This game was BA, playing as the mole Bakuru, I could kick your butt)

Gran Turismo(1-2) (These are the best simulation racing games on the planet and these are the ones that started it all!)

Jet Moto(1-2) (Who didn't like these games? You could race in Hevean and Hell, come on!)

Tekken (3) (I haven't played 1 or 2 but I've loved all the others. Tigger for the win!)

Tony Hawks Pro Skater(1-3) (Yeah there are more, but these were the good ones. Underground one was good too)

Street Sk8er(1 only) (This game had the BEST soundtrack ever. I actually have the whole thing on my PSP music list)

OddWorld Abe's Oddesy (What a classic...such nostalgic moments, watching scrabs tear eachother appart)

That's all I've got right now, but I'm cirtain I could think of more.

FF9 (Very fun but never finished it)
    Metal gear solid (FREAKIN AWESOME)
    Resident evil (Second favorite series)
Resident evil 2 (Favorite RE title)
Resident evil 3: Nemesis (Very fun game, and scary o.o)
Chrono cross was fun but I was confused and got all the characters I didn't want

Silent hill is also on my top 5 game series.
    Hmm, I think that's it.

Oh and, SH2 is for the Ps2.

Your pathetic existence will shut down. I will make your lives end in ruin. Fear me, as you fear death. Not a threat, not a promise, but what must be finished. 7 final arcs...

Besides all of the FF's, Twisted Metal was one of my favorite games on the PS1 and also Chocobo racing, I forget the actual title but it was a mario kart style game but with characters from Squarem pretty sweet!

    Re: Good Old PS1 games

I don't believe I've seen Final Fantasy Tactics mentioned. How on earth could it not be? The story and gameplay of this was absolutely revolutionary and mindblowing. It is possibly the best Final Fantasy game to originally be released on the PS1. Final Fantasy IX might have a slight edge over it.

Star Ocean: Second Story was incredible. I loved the puzzles of Dragon Quest VII. Metal Gear Solid was groundbreaking. Chrono Cross and Legend of Dragoon were excellent.

Overall the PS1 had a lot of great games; far more than the N64, but not quite as many as the NES and SNES.
OLD SKOOL - A positive appellation referring to when things weren't flashy but empty of substance, were done by hard work, didn't pander to the lowest common denominator, and required real skill. Labour-saving devices, shortcuts that reduce quality and quitting before the task is done are not characteristics of "old skool."

In reference to computer games, refers to a game that had substantial playability without flashy graphics or eye candy. Old skool gamers appreciate difficult maneuvers, careful planning, and scorched earth policies.

In reference to role-playing games, old skool refers to games that tested players' wits, could kill off careless characters, and required dedication and inner strength to play. Old skool games didn't pander to the ideas that everyone is created equal, that all options are open to all races, that the markets were somehow free, and that a quasi-medieval society could have near 100% literacy.

    See also classic.

My favorite games I remember playing for the PS1 (besides the obvious Final Fantasy games) were:

    Resident Evil 1-3
    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
    Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
    Silent Hill

Among others...my mind's kind of blanking right now.
