    Fan-Made Games

These last few days I've been playing Pokémon Ethereal Gates, a fan made game. It's actually pretty good. It consists out of exclusively fan made Pokémon that to my surprise actually look decent, some even great. The world you traverse looks gorgeous. Music is also most definitely worth mentioning. My only complaint really, aside from some minor technical issues, is that it's just another standard Pokémon adventure we've seen so many times before, not quite the step forward I was looking for, but to be fair it's a fan made game and work in progress at that. I'm sure with time a lot will be added making it even better, hopefully it releases before Nintendo shoots it down. If you're a Pokémon fan be sure to check this out, you can find a playable demo on their site.

Played any fan made games? Anything worth checking out?

There are a ton of fan-made games and romhacks that I've played. I'll list the good ones that I can remember:

Super Mario RPG: Revolution (It's still Super Mario RPG, but with extra content added and the level cap is raised from 30 to 50; it's also more difficult)

The Guardian Legend: Secret Edition (Changes all the levels and is much more difficult than the original)

Pokemon Zeta (One of the best Pokemon games I've played; it was made in RPG Maker using Pokemon Essentials)

Mega Man X3: Zero Edition (Lets you play as Zero through the entire game, instead of only at certain points)

Super Mario Brothers X (A simultaneous co-op Super Mario game; you can also play as Link)

Super Mario Crossover (Play the original Super Mario Brothers as classic Nintendo characters)

That's all I can think of right this moment.

Pokémon Zeta looks interesting, I see they even added the option to have same 3D models during battle as in Pokémon X & Y, I might just give it a go.

There's so much you can do in it. It's like the Pokemon game I had always wanted as a child.

I don't want to give anything away about it though. There's quite a bit to discover with it, and that's half the fun, really.

Let me know what you think of it!

The only fan made game I can think of that I remember playing as of recently is the demo of the metroid 2 remake. Its known as another metroid 2 remake and you can play the game start to end, but it hasn't been completed yet. The maker is working on finalizing the later areas of the game and the ending. If you liked the gameboy advance releases of metroid fusion and zero mission, it uses that engine and it's modified to the point where it has extra controls like diagonal aiming, an aiming cursor, and the option to select weapons either super metroid style (select button), or like the gba ones (hold down button.)
