JRPG News Post English Trailer Released for Atelier Shallie

GUST and Koei Tecmo have released the first look at the English version of the latest Atelier game from GUST, Atelier Shallie. Continuing the Dusk series following up Escha and Logy, Shallie will also have two protagnists for the players to experience, but it will be two female alchemists this time rather than a male and female like with the last game.

These games always look great, but Ive found the gameplay to be an absolute cluster**** of a mess. Its the kind of game where if you dont play it for a couple of days, then afterward load your save file you make the sounds "Uh-Oh"

really wanted to like this series, but certain aspects made the game difficult for me to get into.

The Atelier series is a personal favorite for me that I always set time aside each year for the latest installment, though the same goes for the other games GUST makes as well. The Atelier has fairly wildly different gameplay depending on where you try it. The PS3 games are more crafting and gathering focused while the PS2 games are more combat focused. Though the series on the PS3 has progressively worked to become more accessible with each release and the combat grows more deep and satisfying.

It is mostly a series to just relax and spend a little time just taking things as they come. The world doesn't need saving and the biggest problem can be trying to keep your livelihood, it's not always, but you tend to be graded on your success to continue practicing alchemy. Depending on what you want out an RPG different parts of the series are better entry points. If you want more traditional RPGs you come to expect you want the PS2 era games. If you like crafting and gathering systems the Arland series is the best place. If you want to really just lay back and take things slow, the Dusk series is best as it is extremely forgiving about everything it does. Though it can still be surprisingly rough on you at points.
