    Dragon's Dogma

I don't think I'd ever been so addicted to a PS3 game before in a long time when I bought this one. I bought it just because it was there at work, and looked interesting (anything with dragons to me right now IS interesting!). Going by a trailer, I wasn't too impressed with how it looked, and I expected a half-assed RPG.

In a way... it sort of is. But in a good way. I mean, the world isn't as huge as I thought it'd be, but then I still have a little more to explore and I'm sure there'll be some expansions.

I created my main character and pawn, and found it quite hard at the beginning. I didn't really know what I was doing, to be honest. I get a game like this and it's about exploring first and questing later. But it's always good to have a little difficulty, or you end up with a piss-easy game. It's why I really liked Demon's Souls.

I think fighting was a real winner for me. Climbing on creatures and pummelling them hasn't been this much fun since Shadow of the Colossus. Customisation is pretty cool too. It makes me glad money is so easy to obtain in this game, or it'll be a total grind.

But anyway. If you liked Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and/or Two Worlds II, I think you might like this one.

Also a fan although I would compare it to more of an story driven Monster Hunter game haha. There isn't a whole lot of character development and the story isn't all that great but I mean the challenge and game play make up for it.

I played it on the 360 and it was delightful. Main class was ranger I think, rocked a warrior pawn too. Post game was easily my favorite part of the whole lot of it. Once I got to NG+ I stopped playing and traded it in. It was fun but I got to the point where I was like I'm either going to have to commit another 40 or more hours to fully complete this game and I just couldn't justify it.

    I haven't played any of the Monster Hunter games. ^^;;
Although I was mostly going by art style. It's dark, gloomy, and if you're not prepared, be prepared to die.

My main class was a Strider to start out, but I changed her into a Magic Archer. I don't think I've ever been comfortable using a bow class before in my life! I don't deal a lot of damage, but I'm pretty quick and can climb and hold onto enemies for much longer than anyone else because of my high stamina.

My pawn was a Fighter, but I changed him to a Warrior when I realised I needed a high damage dealer. He's been getting better reviews back now that he is a Warrior anyhow, haha. I felt heartsick when he came back once with a bad review.

I'm currently using another Warrior made by Martin's girlfriend for more damage dealing, and my boyfriend's Mage for healing and magical weapon enhancements. It's actually a pretty good team, although my partner wants me to update to his Sorcerer and swap my other Warrior for another Mage. Apparently it'll be better later on in the game with more magic? It was a close call, but I took my first drake down before lvl 30 with that set up.

I've also not got very far in the game lol. I'm at the part when you start getting quests from the Duke, so spoilers would make me sadface. I already know endgame is pretty ****ed up though lol.

    Re: Dragon's Dogma

I have it on as I type, and I have literally just started it (I have had it since day 1, but only just getting round to playing it), and I love it. The combat system is great, a lot better than quite a few games I have played recently. I am loving the story at the moment too, a bit different, again, to other recently played games.

There is not much I have noticed in the way of problems with the game, but I don't like that your companions don't shut up. Apart from that, it has been a blast so far.

Yeah, it's annoying at first, but you get used to it. Some of the comments will make you laugh too. "Look, a tree!"

What are you playing on? If you want a decent Warrior, my Richard is up for the task if you're on PSN.

Yes I am on PSN, so yeah that would be awesome. The pawn system/community thing is one thing I don't get about it so far. Do I just look him up in there?

You COULD do, but then you'd have to pay for him with RC. If you add me on PSN (unknownentity666), you can find him under the friends tab, and pick him from there for free.

It's quite simple when you get used to it. Searching for a decent pawn can be a pain in the ass if you're not fully educated on skill and magic names, and THEN getting a pawn with the skills and magic you require, but it tries to narrow it down for you.

I'm not currently playing Dogma (Assassin's Creed Brotherhood), but I'm on PSN now.

OK then, I will add you. I would rather not pay for it if possible.

It kind of sucks that you have to pay for a service that should be provided in game. I guess that is Capcom for you nowadays.

It's an in-game currency haha. You earn RC when someone takes your pawn into their world, or if you complete certain quests, or if you get a Rift Crystal drop.

You can use it to buy better pawns, or to buy rare items.

    Re: Dragon's Dogma

This is genuinely the first game I've enjoyed just watching the whole way through. As Gem pointed out, my good lady played it a lot and got the Platinum trophy for it - she's give it a rest now like!

But the story is well-paced, the character development is nice and evenly weighted.. It's just a fun new IP. I reckon I'll give it a go myself sometime. Also feel free to add 'Cilllah' if you want to borrow her Pawn. It's been through two full games so it's reasonably well-leveled
    Spoiler:

    The game looks pretty good.
Im not surprised it lacks a bit as far as story. Capcom and all...

I just dont want to invest hours in a game like that.
The combat reminds me a lot of mosterhunter but with more realistic weapons. The downside of MH for me was gathering. I hate gathering and looting corpses. Something that RPGs are ful of and I have the feeling this one has its share.

It is about looting, but most of the time you've earned what you loot. Killing a difficult enemy for example. If you didn't like Skyrim, you won't like this. It's a lot smaller, but still has its merits. It's a challenge for one, but not near impossible like Demon's Souls, so if you like aspect that it's perfect.
