Uh. I just turn the console back on. And if the power goes out, I sigh and read a book or write.
...It's really not that big of a deal.
So I was playing Final Fantasy XII this evening, fighting against Hashmal who was low on HP, few more attacks and he's a goner I thought, when suddenly everything went pitch black, and I mean everything. The electricity was out, which happens a lot lately, but this wouldn't be the first time I was interrupted in my grand quest through Ivalice. I'm really pissed right now, I have to do that part with crystals all over again and I don't fell like it, I think I'm gonna sue the power plant.
Has this ever happened to any of you fellow TFF-ers, it doesn't have to be electricity, it can be a grandma tripping over PS like in my cousins case (he didn't had a memory card which made things worse), or a big brother who turns off your console on purpose because he thinks it's fun, well it's not, and how do you react in such situation?

Oh, I've had a few instances where my game file got messed up because of some accident. And yep, it's pretty frustrating when it happens, so I understand how you feel.
First one that comes to mind would be my favorite save file from FF VII. It was one where I was working on leveling up a bunch of materia to master level, and also the file that had my gold chocobo in it, the only one I ever got too. One day, I turn on the PSX to continue working on my game, and discover that one of my brothers accidentally saved his game over my game! I was so disappointed that all my hard work just disappeared like that...
I also tripped over my PS2 controller cord, and knocked off the console into the floor while I was playing FF XII. The disk popped out of it, and got scratched up. I thought it was okay at first, but about the time I got to Archades, I was having a lot of issues with the game freezing up... I took the disk to get repaired, but it still won't play the entire ending... I had to watch that on Youtube.
Final story, and then I'm done. I was playing KH2 for the first time, and was just getting around to exploring the mansion in Twilight Town while playing as Roxas, and all of a sudden the power just goes out! For some reason, I had not saved at all up to that point, so I had to play the whole opening again! I didn't want to redo all the tutorials, but I had no choice but to do just that... Now, I make sure to save frequently, even if I plan on playing for a long time.
Click at your own risk.:
I had an N64 cartridge that my brother lent me of Ocarina of Time. The games save battery stopped working eventually so now save games don't even last a day. I got up to the spirit temple one time and i saved the game and stopped playing and when i went to pick it up later on that day, the whole file was gone. So be glad you don't have a game that will NEVER save again. Each time I want to play on that cartridge of OoT, I have to start a new game everytime. (Probably explains why I can get through dungeons in that game really quickly haha)
It also happened to me some on A Link to the Past but not as bad. It only happened rarely.

Silly Sheena's such a stick in the mud Or rather Victoria now.
One time recently, I was playing Pokemon Platinum. I had gone through the entirety of one route, beaten a Gym leader in the next town, gotten through the portion of the next route, and I think I'd captured at least a couple rare pokemon (one of which was Chansey) at least three of my pokemon had evolved, one twice...and I dropped the DS, and the game popped out. I had not saved the entire time. I didn't play it again for like a month or two, haha. Still haven't played it enough to get as far as I was that night, either (I kinda play those games sporadically anymore, anyway.) Anyhoo...
Wuv, Yer Mom
I can't remember what I was playing at the time, but I hadn't saved for a while and we had a power cut. I remember being really pissed when I turned the console back on after the cut, and I loaded up somewhere I was at three hours before. ><
I also remember me and my brother getting really far in FFVIII, but I broke the memory card. Oops.
Speaking of memory... my PS3 broke. With FFVII save data on it. When I was seriously levelled, had loads of maxed materia, and had everyone's limit breaks (so far) before Cosmo Canyon. Or Rocket town. Can't remember, but I was really pissed off, and I've not felt like playing FFVII for over a year. =(
I had an amazing file on FFVII on my Emulator and I had Fire Ice and Bolt Mastered before Aeris died and I reformatted my computer without saving my emulator and it's files onto a flash drive. It was the most painful restart of any FF game I have played.
Another bad time was when I was playing Dark Cloud and I had this amazing sword I made and I got it leveled up like CRAZY. I was playing for 5 hours straight just grinding up my weapons, and I wasn't paying attention and I turned the game off without saving. I never touched that game ever again.

Ah, the good ol' 'cursing against humanity' speech. I know that one quite well.
I have to go back to Final Fantasy VI for this, because it's hilarious how random it was. I beat the game a long time ago, and I was working on the extra stuff they had. I was also leveling grinding everyone to 99, except Gogo and Umaro, those guys are losers. I put down the game for a while to do other stuff. Whatever, and I came back. (And this was the GBA game, BTW, no emulation.) When I popped the game into my Gameboy Advance again, apparently, the game was pretending it had no saves at all. In fact, only New Game was available at the title screen. And then I discovered when you put the game in the slot slightly slower than just slamming it in, now it remembers my save.
...WTF? Seriously. Put the catridge in one way, and it acts like a new game. But do it with slightly more care, and your saves are all there. In any case, I tried doing it slightly the next day, and nothing I did brought the saves back. They were gone forever, bummer. Well, I guess I also found yet another FFVI glitch. Woot, I guess?
And now for something involving a power outage.
I was playing Kingdom Hearts, once again, the main story was finished, and I was just hard at work with the post-game. I remember getting every single thing in that game, level 99, the ultimate weapons, completing synthesis, and doing everything I can with the Gummi Ship. Everything, but two little items. Those oddly named rank items you get from the Rare Truffles from bouncing them in the air a certain number of times. I decided to go for them one day, trying the ones in Neverland. Eventually, I succeeded in getting them both, and they were a lot easier than I thought, or maybe I was just lucky, eh.
So, yeah, the power outage comes in and ruins everything. I wasn't even close to a save point at the time. I have never tried to obtain them again, maybe the gods don't want me to keep them.
Long post is long. ><
I'm going through a bit of a The World Ends With You phase right now.Click THERE:
my most recent loss of save happened from Persona 4, where I literally lost a month of gametime from it lol.
For those of you who don't know, P4 has a calendar gameplay element where certain things happen on different days, you go through a school year, limited time to beat a boss, etc. Anyways, it was like 2 days before I had to beat Kanji's dungeon boss, and I was underleveled. So my game started where I was leveling up, I got strong enough to fuse a powerful demon for my main character, I end up barely beating the boss, then I spent the next 3 game weeks building up social links, another important part of the game where you go around and talk to certain NPCs; its basically a bunch of cutscenes and bonding moments between characters. So I do a bunch of that, then I head into the next dungeon. I end up getting ambushed so the enemy gets a turn, so I leave the room and and grab a glass of water, come back and then I am at the gameover screen. I basically lost about 3 hours worth of leveling and cutscenes to the very first random battle I encountered. I was pissed and didnt touch my ps3 for the rest of the week after that, and I had nothing to blame except my impatience

Uhhh, I think you've missed the point of this thread. The big deal isn't that the power went out, it's that the save data was lost.
As for me, the one I'll always remember is when I was 9 or 10 playing Shining Force 2. I was maybe half way through the game (a 30ish hour game which seemed quite long when I was that age), when I accidentally erased my file. It was one of those things that you are conscience of while you're doing it, but are unable to stop yourself from doing for whatever reason. I was quickly trying to continue my file and I guess I clicked left by mistake because I ended up in the delete menu and instinctively highlighted my file and pressed C. Whoops. I was devastated at first, but I soldiered on and got back to where I was.
Lately, I've been having trouble with the ridiculously unstable Fallout 3 engine (or perhaps my PS3's going?) freezing every hour or so. Thank goodness that game has a decent auto save feature.
Until now!
That happens to me too when I play Fallout 3. I didn't notice it so much on the normal game, but the GOTY really messed up, and kept sticking and freezing. So your PS3 is probably fine, unless mine is on the blink too.
It's annoying, but yeah, good autosave feature. When it freezes, you don't miss out on much.
Hasn't the PS3 always had problems with Bethesda's games? I remember Oblivion having major problems on the PS3 when it came out, maybe the same deal with Fallout 3. Glad I have it on the PC though, I turn off all auto save except for when I sleep. Good ol QUICK SAVE!

One time, not too long ago, I was playing FFII on my PSP. I had gotten pretty far and had not saved for about 3 hours, then I take the console upstairs to do something. On my way back down the stairs, the PSP slips out of my hands, down the stairs and crashing into a cupboard at the bottom of my stairs. The battery flew out and the disc tray came out of place. I haven't played it since (this was about 4 months ago, I've barely touched my PSP ever since).
Also, I was playing Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King on PS2. The classic power outage happened, and I had just done about 2 hours of levelling. I was so pissed off.
this has happened to me more times than I care to remember. I'm on metered electric, so every now and then, it will cut out on me. I OCD save because of this these days, when I lived in a place of other that was also metered, the lekki was always running out, and it would always be at the most inconvenient of gaming times, like I'd not saved for about 3 hours, or I was lightning bolt dodging (I was convinced I'd of got the 200 that time everytime it happened haha)
I was less than impressed when it cut out after I'd calibrated all the towers in X-2.
I end up having a temper tantrum and it takes me a good couple of weeks to calm down and pick the game back up again haha
feel your pain bud
ohhhh the other one that winds me up is you're sat there happily gaming away tra la la, then some arsehole accidentally knocks your power lead out.... the rage that ensues after that. Oh and my ex accidentally switching MY game off, when he's finished playing what he has been playing because he 'didn't think'
He did that twice. Expletives were hurled
Towards the end of 2009 I purchased a copy of Pokemon Ruby for GBA on Amazon. Well it arrives. ANd I play for 2 days, Trade over a few pokemon I bred on leaf green. (A charmander with Flamethrower, And A Nidoran Male)
I play for 2 days and then on day 3 I turn it on only to find that my game had been erased.
I do some reasearch and find out that my copy was pirated.

And then just like that i'm gone again.
Well, my Aunt, who is only three years older than me and practically like my sister, used to purposely unplug my PS1 when I was playing. She did that at least a hundred times until one day I threw her t.v. out the window when she unplugged it during my final and almost conquered fight with Ultemecia in FF8. Yep, she never touched my s**t after that.
Then, there have been countless number of times that my power has gone out during a long and unsaved level in a game.
One time my cousin Toni and I were playing Fantastic Dizzy (NES version), and she was right near Zak's castle, about to collect the last few stars, and her sister Helen came running in and reset the console!
I don't think she ever forgave her for that.

I was playing fallout 3 in my living room on the xbox 360 and my dad was cleaning the entertainment center and he was cleaning the glass shelf part and it collapsed on my xbox causing the disc inside to become unreadable forever now. Its got a HUGE scratch on it...oh and my data auto saved alright right on a huge white screen everytime it loads.this is after i got a new discand downloaded it onto my xbox. Well then i was playing golden sun 1 and transfering my characters from 1 to 2 and im so glad i do this. I always have 2 saved files, but not on golden sun. I accidently deleted my file on 1 the second i transfered the data to number 2 and i never could ever see the perfect ending to 1 ever again( mostly because i didnt waste anymore time on 1).

I feel your pain, man. My first DS was purchased via ebay and came with Pokemon Sapphire and a couple other games. I had never played a Pokemon game before and was eager to try this one. You know how all Pokemon games' cartridges are colored? Well, mine wasn't; it was just a normal dark gray cartridge. So, I start the game and discover that if the cartridge is removed from the DS (or GBA), all save data disappears. For a couple months of playing, I kept that cartridge in the DS and yelled at anybody who touched it. So I make it to Victory Road. I'm so excited. I'm sitting in my friend's basement, playing Pokemon and ignoring the Smash tournament that's going on. One of the Smashers trips on my power cord and sends the DS flying from my hands onto the tile floor. It turns off. He picks it up and takes the game out (to make sure he didn't break it) and I just collapse. Profound depression ensues. I haven't played Sapphire since.
"I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death. What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch and you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities. You become a little baby, you go back into the womb, spend your last nine months floating... and you finish off as an orgasm."

Something like that has only happened to me once. This is because I save all the time for fear of losing tons of progress should anything happen. Except for one afternoon, playing Final Fantasy IX. I was just grinding away on Grand Dragons for leveling and I think one of Freya's Dragoon abilities. I had spent probably five or six hours doing this (it was summer vacation, I had all the time in the world, as the saying goes) and there was a thunderstorm coming in. I knew I should save but I kept saying to myself, ten more minutes then I'll stop. Well, guess what happens first. Yep, power outage. Lost all my progress.
Ever since then I've been more obsessive than ever when it comes to saving, even on games with auto save. I never go more than an hour without saving. I'll even backtrack to get to save points just for leveling up and maybe getting a new ability or something. Just because you never know.

This has happened in my War of the Lions data a couple times
Its not that my psp fell on the floor or anything, I was just too stubborn to save frequently. I had finished most of chapter 1 in like 2-3 hours
And then I died at the hands of Argath =(
So I had to watch the opening cutscene all over again, an train my people from the start of level 1.....all over again.
Final Fantasy and Samurai Champloo FTW!!
I've had that happen before. It really pisses me off, especially if I hadn't saved in a while. I don't play the game for a while after that lol
I've learned to save constantly since then.

I had a tragic rpg moment recently. I was playing Ys SEVEN on the psp and I went to set the game on my lap and I accidentally dropped it and the battery flew out and the umd popped open and the game fell out. since i didn't save yet at the time i lost a chunk of progress. I wasn't upset though, just in shock.

I've had power go out or internet go down during online poker sessions and MMORPGs, sucks more during poker sessions, but it does bother me during a raid.
As far as games i'm horrible at saving, Tactics is the worst when it comes to that, although i've done it with just about every Final Fantasy game you can name. 7, 8,9,10, 12, even the earlier ones, i've gotten better about saving, but I still occassionally waste an hour because i forget to save. I usually get frustrated and don't touch the game for a week, then come bak and grind it back.
I've gotten lax on it as of late, with FF13 being able to let me retry battles and backtrack to one of its many savespots throughout the world, I've been spoiled.

I think it's only happened to me once or twice, but that's what I get for playing long periods of time and not saving I guess lol
Ever since then, when ever I go through a large area I hate or a difficult part I don't want to go back and do I freak out if there's not a save point after haha. It's not the end of the world though, since most of the time I don't play anything too crazy.
That Happened To You Too?!?! OMG, I Hate It When It Happens...
Especially If You Just Got Some Cool Thing Or Something Or Beat Something For The First Time, And It Auto Shuts Everything Down Before You Get To Save Or Something...Oh My Goodness That Just Pisses Me Straight The Hell Out!
Oh Well. Can't Do Anything About It
My brothers used to turn off my ps2 all the time when i got frustrated at something saying "you need to calm down a bit now" which made me even more frustrated :@
