    Can't be just me...

It seems that no matter how great a system is and the games that appear on it, that I will always prefer the older games... Graphics do nothing for me if a game is lacking story or gameplay. To me, it seems like games now are more about appearance than substance. I still play Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and many others games from the 16 bit era... Those games define, for me at least, a time when RPGs were better... I really can't think of words to describe how much I adore the older games compared to today's stuff. Maybe I'm just old and nostalgic... Anyway, does anyone else ever feel this way?

The feeling is mutual Kainsbro. Most everyone who has experienced the pixelated era from the early odyssey and atari to the snes/genesis/turbografix, have at least once in their lifetime, played through the games in each of those systems. Not everyone who played retro systems necessarily prefers older games over the latest stuff, in this case the opposite proves true.

Most likely why many people still go back to older system games is because of how immersive they were at the time, not necessarily nostalgia, but the gameplay in those games leave a lot of imagination to the player and drew the player into the world of each game with the level design, what you were able to do with your game character, and what the game system allowed you to do in that era.

I would say that the reason behind this immersion is because of the feel of those old system games have that draw many players into playing the games we refer today as classic. I, myself still experience this a lot, and I remember the enjoyment I have with a particular game title and I discover newer titles from older systems along the way reading into them and experiencing the world they provide.

My personally I could give two shits for amazing graphics if it takes away from the overall gameplay, and story of the game. That is why I have zero problems plugging in my PS1 and playing FFTactics, or some of my older games.

I myself don't see difference to be honest, got to play tons of truly amazing video games back in the day, some horrible as well, exact same thing I do nowadays. Actually, thanks to internet I find it a lot easier nowadays to avoid video games I probably wont like, thus I don't burn myself as often as I used to.

I play games based on gameplay.

Like recently I am playing the PC version of The Last Remnant and the combat is nothing I have tried before. The graphics, honestly are not good for the time but regardless, it's not about that.

I always find myself playing an old RPG randomly. I started up Chrono Cross again not to long ago.

Overall the Gamecube had a lot of my favorites but it's hard to say whether I prefer one specific era. I still find many games today more or less on par with those on the NES in different ways. However it seems there's much more **** to sift through to get to the good stuff, and that might just be because I only got a few games a year as a kid.

I don't see why games shouldn't be able to have both amazing gameplay as well as amazing graphics.
