Buying PS2, what FF to buy and play first?

So I'm seriously planning to buy me a PS2 in the next couple of days, so I can play FFVII, IX, X, X-2 and XII. In what order should I play them to get the best type of experience and least boredom or disappointment? Should I play best first, worst first, average>best>worst or average>worst>best?

I don't know how you play video games, but I'm very doubtful that you'll make it through all of the games together.
For recommendations I'd say go IX, X, VII then XII. If you can make it through X-2 I commend you. I made it 3/4th of the way through the game and was banging my head against the wall for the majority of that time.

I would say the list above is best for a none veteran player! Spesh if you ain't played before

ix first because it is light hearted, easy and super fun with a deap story line that will have you hooked

X second same as above but a tad more difficult

Vii third because its darker and harder to follow but if you do! You will be blown away!

Xii last because it is a LONG game but equally as awesome as the rest

Then if you can try for viii

Hm, I'd go with the order you listed actually..

If there is one thing that most FF games have, is unique systems. Some of the elements are similar, they all go about it their own way.

VII - Materia
IX - Gear
X - Grid
X-2 - Grid .... Combo breaker.
XII - Licenses

Bit of a learning curb per say, maybe somewhere down the track you may get the itch to try the few you missed out on and see how you fare.
On a random note, the music in XII is amazing.

You could buy a PS3 and save alot of money on all the final fantasy games. Like $9.99 each by downloading them onto the PS3.

From my recent experience with FF games: play FFIX, then FFX, then FFVII, then FFXII that's a decent order to go by.

All of those games suck donkey balls. You should play Skyrim instead.

It doesn't matter what order you play them in, really. I would probably play them chronologically, just so you have an appreciation for what the old games in the series are like before you go to the prettier looking later editions. Of course, if you've already been playing games for the ps3 and such...

Sorry about the posting this in the wrong section. I'll go with what the majority recommends: 9, 10, 7, 12. I played 8, that's why it's not on the list. Some say 8 is emo trash with dumbed down battle system type of game, I say it's very good. It has a special place in my heart. Characters are different, but the common cause creates a special bond between them. That's what's good about this game. And the awesome setting and the atmosphere.


Another question: if I buy them for PS3 via downloading, can I back up the FF's onto other devices, in case the HD fails or something else bad happens to the PS3?

You can download then on to a psp if your memory quick is large enough also you can always download them from the playstation network. Last i check these was 7, 8, 9, and tactics. There May be others anthology might be on there and maybe origins but im not sure.

I would recommend to play in this order 9 7 10. Imo X is the best one followed by 8 but 9,7 are to close to call for me . You hear about 7 much more then you hear about 9 so you can catch spoilers just by accident. 9 is less popular then 7 also i think nine gas a better story line and the game has a happier feel to it then 7. You say you have played 8 and obviously you save the best for last 10

I see. Sounds good. I'll do that then. PS3 will also allow me to play FF13's. I know they're not what FF games are meant to be, but I'll play them regardless.

You can probably put them on a vita if you have one too i didn't even think about that.
