David kept his eyes locked on his escape, casually shuffling past the conflict nearby. The child-assulting woman stumbled back into him and David knew he should have just pressed against a wall. Hindsight, however enlightening, would not change his present path. One of the guards glanced over, did a double-take, gritted his teeth and thrust a pistol up and forward, sighted on David's chest. The nervous techie didn't hear what the guard said, but he understood fully. He immideately took two steps back and raised his hands to shoulder height.
"Whoa, there's no need for that." David had a little expirience with rifles and almost none with pistols. He did, however, know how to tell if a safety is on or off. This gun was most asureadly unsafe. The blood drained quickly from David's fingers in response to the danger. His heart pounded steadily. Trying his hardest to find something to say, David's thoughts were dominated by the realization he needed to urinate badly.
"I, uh... I need to use the restroom is all." The guard blinked, pistol still leveled. David saw the thoughts swirling in the gaurds head, of course someone would need to eventually. David just needed to ensure that the guard didn't take it as a bluff.
"Is there a bathroom? Or, have you designated a corner inwhich I should do my business?" David's tone became sarcastic and accusing in response to the guard's obvious loss for words. The nervous techie fired off as much as he could before the guard could inevitably collect his thoughts and counter,
"Is there a bucket? Do I even get toilet paper, or should I just go ahead and sacrifice my shirt as long as my dignity will be long gone anyway!"
There were gasps from the withdrawn crowd and a few scattered noises of agreement. David stood alone, at gunpoint with his hands up and chest pushed out in defiance. It may have been a rushed descision, but David knew either he would get away from that miserable room, or the guard would attempt to detain him. Whichever happened, David was prepaired to stick a tiny, razorsharp screwdriver or tweezers in throats, eyes and stomachs if he had to. But only if there would be no other option.
David's face shifted from gritted teeth and defiance to a sigh of impatience.
"I really need to go, can you make up your mind already?"
