Mobile Theme

Okay, so I really like Tapatalk, but the new version apparently doesn't have blog support and that is dumb. I was originally contemplating remastering the shitty little default mobile skin that vBulletin has, and now I'm considering doing so once again.



Obviously I'm not the only one here who uses Tapatalk.

If I rebuild the forum's mobile skin so we can have phone-friendly formatting wherever we go, what features would you like to see? What specifically would you not like to see? I think I'll make two skins with whatever we decide (one crystal, one dark), so I just need to know what we all want in it. Full functionality is what I'm aiming for but I know some things still aren't ideal for browsing under a 7" screen.

In no particular order:
- Activity feed
- Blog support
- Attachments
- Forum controls
- Notifications
- Private messaging

That's about all I use, personally. Tapatalk does most of it adequately---I find it lacking but more intuitive than the current mobile interface. I only use Tapatalk on the go. When I'm at home I use a browser.

Yeah, I mostly use Tapatalk at work, with what little free time I have on my hands.

I've been looking at some various pre-built skins that I can dismantle and rebuild, but nothing really has ALL of the options I want, so I may just break down one of our full skins and resize it for a tiny screen.

This is why I wanted an idea of what anyone would want to see.

Regarding the postbit (the column to the left of every post in the full browser) - would you prefer to see avatar and such above each post? How much info do you want to see? Post count, title, etc?

Signatures on or off? Optional?

Personally all I'd require is a name and avatar. The size restrictions in place make them feasible for mobile. Titles would be nice, maybe the profile / private messaging / rep controls, too.

Signatures I can take or leave. I usually have them on but ignore them. Optional would be best.

EDIT: Goes without saying but a relative or absolute timestamp on posts is helpful. I prefer absolute but most people prefer the "An hour ago"

I would say avatar and names only, maybe titles. Make the app more TAB friendly, kinda like the What's New and Forums part at the top. Makes it easier to load and read.

Well, I want to clarify that I'm not building an app, just new mobile skins to replace the shitty default option that vBulletin has installed on vB4, with all the functionality that you guys ask for.

Also, I thought of clever themes for them - to stick with our existing Crystal and Dark themes, I want to do a Cosmos and Chaos theme for mobile. This way, these will be selectable from the drop box, and I'll make sure they're appropriate for full-size browsing as well, so if you like the way it feels, you can use it on your home computer without being restricted to 480px wide.

Unfortunately, my forum is still running vb3.8, so I'm not familiar with the 4.x or 5.x versions (other than the you need to delete your install directory to prevent backdoor entry into your databases). I do know what the vb modification forum has a ton of mods and styles and maybe one of them will provide the base for you to edit and configure to your liking. I've found that taking an existing style and configuring it is the best way to come to terms with new tech and new code, etc.

Are you all verified there, yet?
