A minor character you'd want to see more of?

OK lots of people have already stated their opinions about the main casts screen time. Some say it lacks, some say it doesn't. Some say you don't get to know the characters at all. (I belong to the part of people that think the game did have character developement and interesting ones at that, but that it was like the tip of an iceberg most of the time.) Now that that is clear, let's just not get into that old discussion here at all this time.

FFXII was filled with minor characters, like Old Dalan and Migelo. I grew quite attached to some of the these characters, especially Dalan, and Tomaj. You guys got a favourite out of the more minor characters, or just one you'd like to have seen more involved in the plot somehow?

I would've loved to have more Dalan side quests! And perhaps Tomaj could've got something more to do than just introduce you into hunting and the license board, which he still went on about even at the end of the game... I guess he got some sort of fifteen minutes of fame in Revenant Wings though, haha.

And Drace. Jules of archadia was a fun chap too.

I would have liked to have seen more of Reddas, he was pretty badass and he wore pink pants. Yeah, he tags along in your party for a while, but then you don't have him anymore after a certain part of the game. No spoilers from me, sorry.

I also thought that Rikken, Raz, and Elza were some characters that I would have liked to see more of, just becuase they worked for Reddas. I guess that makes them cool by association. They came back in Revenant Wings, but it wasn't a very big part.

Yeah Reddas was so awesome seriously, through the game I kept waiting for him to make an appearance, but when he finally did in the end of the game I had sort of forgot about him so I was like

oh. There you are.

Yeah, Elza, Rikken and Raz has just made their appearance where I am in Revenant Wings right now, pleasant surprise. I'd like to have seen more of Al-Cid too, a shame he never made a guest appearance in your party. xD

I would have like to see more of Old Dalan, just because the way he talks makes me giggle.

As shown in FFTA2 Al-Cid is a user of guns, so it would've been fun if they could've played a little more on the -atleastitseemedtobe- rivality between him and Balthier.
Haha yeah Old Dalan is such a wonderful character. I always grow attached to those kind of characters in all kind of fiction. I'd want it to be so much more to do down in Lowtown in general really, I mean they pretty much grew up there if I'm not mistaken.

I love Vossler actually. He was a cool character I almost wanted in the main party. It seems the older games used to included characters like him as part of the main party, which is why several of them appear to have larger casts. IX was a great example. It had a big cast as it is, but there were several characters who could have easily been made into playable characters. Beatrice for instance in that game.

I haven't played IX, since I haven't managed to find any other than the North American release of it, and my PS doesn't support those, being european and all.

I miss big parties really. FFVI was so fun with it's humongous cast of characters, as I've already stated in some other thread before... Yeah I was really surprised that Vossler wasn't going on your party, just as surprised I was about Larsa and Reddas not being a part of it either.

There should have been a Bangaa or Seeq on the party too. That would've been awesome.

I really loved the turn based aspect of Final Fantasy plus the randomness of not knowing when or who you were going to fight in a battle.

You've got to be kidding me? Random battles were the worst thing ever. Oh I'm totally about to be some place I really want to explor-----*screen fades into battle*. So annoying.

Agreed - the series had been trying to get away from Random battles for quite some time and I think 12 nailed it.

Back to the topic though, Rassler was a cool character. I have not finished this game yet, so I don't really know what the overlays with him and Vaan are all about, but I'm very intriqued. Wish I could find him alive somewhere and have him join.

I think XII's choice to turn on the random encounter system were a nice touch, and the battle system refreshing - though it did get monotonous at times. I missed things like "delay attack", "armour break" and the like that you could use in FFX. And more fun attack "buffs" like those from FFVI amongst others, with their X-attack and such with the right equipment attached to the character. It would've spiced things up a bit, more effects to the weapons, since to the end of the game there were - though still rather strong - weapons that you never really used.
Random encounter feels more traditional and nostalgic though, but it still comes with a stiffness. Actually being able to see your enemies made the world off FFXII seem oh so much more alive. Imagine running through all those areas with random encounters! It'd feel...vast and...yeah.
But then again FFXII is pretty much the first FF game with SO MANY area screens right? I mean FFX didn't have a worldmap either, and some pretty wide areas, but it was still controled and rather flat with it's fixed camera angles.

Hoho.

I think most people here agrees that Reddas is one of the coolest minor characters haha.

But what about Bagamnan (don't remember where his ' goes..) and co? I think that I would grow tired of them if they kept popping up everywhere, sort of cliché too, but.....well I'd like to have seen a LITTLE more of them. Somewhere. At some point. Some more epic climax between them, Balthier and Fran. Ok I'm really wishing the juices out of this game sometimes, they already pretty much took it as far as they could with the PS2...xD

Am I the only one who'd actually want some epic adventure game focusing on Balthier and Fran actually doing SKY PIRATE STUFF? Revenant Wings just doesn't do it for me, even though it's a...well how to put it...cute game. : )

I enjoyed having Reddas on my team despite his pink pants. He was strong, agile, and always healed me on cue. Not to forget he dual wields two very awesome looking weapons.

To limit myself to just one minor character that I would have liked to seen more of is hard. There are many I would have like to seen more those are:

Dr. Cid Bunansa
Al-Cid
Judge Magister Zargabaath

Judge Magister Drace
Marquis Ondore

Ondore and Dr. Cid are shown and then are not seen till a long time has passed; a few scenes to give us a heads up on what they are doing would have been nice.

I would have liked to have seen Al-Cid address his royal court/family and/or military officers to stave off their involvement.

Maybe a scene with Drace watching over Larsa.

For Zargabaath I don't have a clear thought of what would have been good, the scenes he was in developed him well.

I won't go too deep into Zargabaath, since it could be quite the spoiler. ; ) But yeah I'd like to have seen some o' that... and definitely some more of Drace! It would have made a certain scene oh so much more powerful if you'd seen more of her earlier... FFXII's Ivalice really is a huge world, it could almost be a fiction of it's own or something.

@Gilgamesh2000: YES dual wield - AWESOME. I abused having Reddas on my team doing all sorts of hunts and stuff before I went on with the story. I loved his pink pants! I love how pretty much all characters of FFXII are pretty properly and traditionally dressed, but still have some slight outrageous elements in their outfits that makes them stand out, be it colour or piece of cloth; sometimes both. Vaan with his red and turquoise, Balthier's rings, Ashe's freaking mini skirt and of course Reddas bizarre but awesome pink pants. Ondore's got quite the bright coat too, but he still doesn't look out of place. Penelo's outfit I actually found HORRIBLE at first, but now I've learned to love it.

I still wish I could've had a bangaa, moogle or seeq on my team, except for the occassional support from them in certain hunts.

The two minor characters I'd like to see more of were Vossler and Reddas. Mostly for the reason that they had interesting personalities. Vossler was the same as Basch, somehow, he was also very loyal and a good fighter. I really would've liked to see a bit more of the Basch/Vossler drama (which wasn't really a drama, as SE didn't put much emotion into it .-.") and about their past.
Reddas... I think I don't have to repeat what the others already said. xD

Yeah Vossler was so cool seriously, and quite useful. I would never have made it through the Dreadnought Leviathan without him. xD...gosh I really hate that place.

Some flashbacks scene of Vaan and Penelo's earlier days in Rabanastre with Reks and the other lowtown kids would've been greatly appreciated. I never really liked the scene between Vaan, Reks and the galbana lilies, it seemed out of place, a real flashback could've been a whole lot more symbolic.

I would honestly have to say that I would want to see more of Lars. you don't get to see enough of him all you know is basically that he is Vossler's younger brother and that is about it.

@bobbo087: Larsa could've ACTUALLY joined the team or something. Seriously. He guested you on two occassions after all, the second time for quite a while! I liked Larsa. And he seemed to have an eternal stock of potions too. ; ) wouldn't say no to have someone with such privilieges on my team permanently.

...because he didn't use my own stock, did he? I have to check that whenever I replay the game again.

This. It would have been sweet to have a couple more races to play as. I always liked running around as Fran just to have a break from all the damn humes.

It would have been cool if you could run around and recruit npc's to be part of your party sort of like Tactics. Each race could specialise in a different role:

Bangaa = Tank
Viera = DD
Moogle = Mage
Hume = All-rounder

and so on, something like FFXI.

As for a single character, I would have liked to see more of Montblanc outside of the clan hall.

I would've liked to see more of Larsa and Rasler. I really liked Rasler even though he dies at the very start. It could've been interesting to see more of Reks (though without those leather bras and skirts), that way Vaan would be fleshed out, too. Even though Vaan and Penelo aren't minor characters, they could've used more developing, too. Well, I guess the sequels make up for that. But yeah, MOAR Larsa and Rasler~

And Montblanc, too! I was surprised he had more than one sibling. I had just played FFTA when I heard FFXII was coming.

Icemaush: Yes I would very much have liked to see some more of Montblanc. Or have him actually assist in some more important hunt, that would've been so sweet. I really really loved Montblanc in FFTA. Strongest Moogle Black Mage there is. Kupo~

Toxo: Yes I agree to the fullest about Penelo and Vaan. But I think underdeveloped characters are the main flaw of FFXII. When you read more into it, you gain a grasp of for instance; Balthier and Reddas past. But when it comes to those little details that really makes the characters, their interaction to eachothers, fun little facts about how for instance, Balthier ever met up with Fran and vice versa - there's very little of it in the game. I really missed seeing Balthier boss around with the selfproclaimed aprentice Vaan, for example.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the characters of FFXII, but sometimes it feels like most things on the characters, are only made up in my mind. It's there in the game, but never really portrayed.

I wanted more Tomaj in the game as well.

Would he still have that silent girl following him around everywhere if he joined the team?

I would have liked him around more as well, mostly because I would have liked to have known more about Rozarria, or even visit the place. I mean, it was a pretty important place in the story. Would have been nice to know more about it.

I love it that Filo and Kytes are playable characters in FFXII - RW. Or well. Playable.

RW is pretty much has the most automized and unflexible battle system ever...

No time to be bitter though!

I'd loved to do some more errands for Jules in Archades. Considering him and Balthier seeming to get along so well. : ) : ) : ) Could've sprouted some comedy.
