    Re: Barthandelus help :(

This is the first encounter with him, right?

I remember reading in a thread that Tiffany was having some of the same problems. If you want to take a look-through at how she finally beat it, here's the thread:

    http://thefinalfantasy.net/forums/fi...ut-medics.html

I heard how hard he was, so I made sure that my party was ready for him. I had all my characters' Crystarium levels maxed out and all the nodes activated. When the battle began, I buffed up my characters with every stat-boosting thing that my synergist would do. I had my main cast a Librascope so that my AI characters would know his weaknesses, and made sure that I dealt with the Pauldrons and Ailettes first (the things to the left and right side of him). Then after that, I focused on staggering Bart as fast as I could, and healed whenever possible. I did eventually beat him by switching between a full-on attack paradigm and a healing paradigm. It's best to keep everyone healed when you get the notification that he's about to do his destrudo attack.

Hope that was some help for you.

use a librascope and kill the pauldrons first then I started with buffing as much as i could with fang as a sen and lihtning as a med and hope the syn
after mild buffing i railed at him with rav-com-med untill his hp was about 1/3,he will wipe your buffs away but dont bother to reapply right befor his destrodo attack switch to med-sen-med to fully heal everyone ,then switch back to rav-com-med and wail away some more once his hp is roughly at 1/3 of his bar he will most likely cast doom. to counter this I summon odin and go to town after the odin summon within a few hit from Fang and lightning he should fall

The trick to beat Barthandelus and all monsters in Final Fantasy XIII is having the right paradigms. Below I will suggest some paradigms which might be of help during the battle.

    3 or more targets present:
    Sentinel, Commando, Ravager
    Sentinel, Commando, Medic (for healing)

    1 target present:
    Commando, Ravager, Ravager
Sentinel, Medic, Medic (right before destrudo, it takes some time to charge up)

Raise your chain % and right before you stagger your opponent summon your Eidolon to inflict maximum damage.

It helps if you have the crystarium grid maxed out or close to being maxed out for this fight. I think I used buffs for this fight, I'm unsure about it.

This is how I beat Barthandelus the first time; my strategy may be able to help you.

I had Snow, Lightning, and Hope for this fight.

Once the battle began I had Hope buffing the party, Lightning as a Medic, and Snow as a Commando. Once the buffs (Protect and Shell mainly) are applied switch to the Diversity Paradigm: Snow as Com, Lightning as Rav, and Hope as Med. I worked my way left to right taking down the different parts. Diversity should be work throughout taking down Barthandelus' parts.

Once you can attack Barthandelus' head, rotate between Relentless Assault, Diversity (to heal), and Hero's Charge (to re-apply the buffs). Once Barthandelus begins to charge up for "Destrudo" there are two ways to go about:

    1) Keep wailing on Barthandelus with Relentless Assault till Barthandelus flinches; this will look as if he being knocked back. Destrudo is an attack that needs to be charged up. If the party keeps attacking while Barthandelus is charging up and is able to "knock back" Barthandelus the power to Destrudo will greatly be reduced. Once Barthandelus has been "knocked back" switch to the Combat Clinic Paradigm to heal up and to wait for Destrudo.

    2) Once Destrudo comes up on screen switch to Combat Clinic, heal up quickly (one or two rounds of healing should be good), then switch to Relentless Assault. Wail on Barthandelus and "knock" him back. Switch to Combat Clinic to prepare for Destrudo.

Now, you can get a few more licks after you have knocked Barthandelus back before Destrudo goes off just don't over-extend your attack. Perhaps trying to count how long it takes for Destrudo to go off after his has been "knocked back" could help you know when to switch to Combat Clinic if you decide to get a few more licks.

After Destrudo goes off, heal up, then attack him and heal when needed.

You don't need to Summon in this battle - I didn't - and I did make it a little bit under the target time. If you want to attempt to getter a better "star-rating" then go ahead and summon, but they are not vital to succes. With my strategy Barthandelus never casted Doom on me.

    Good Luck.

I was having trouble with that too the first few times, he was the first thing to sucessfully kill me lol. I'd been trying to tank it out with the Combat Clinic paradigm, but it usually wasn't ending well, because I was using hope as my secondary healer, and he usually didn't survive it. If he did, he usually got lit up like a christmas tree by Baptism in Ruin shortly afterward. So finally, I switched my party up again o be pretty much all out offensive. When he started charging destrudo, I just switched to Cerberus and pummeled the crap out of him, if you can get him to flinch, Detsrudo ends up being weak as hell. If you're still losing your party leader to this move, try setting Fang or Snow or someone with ridiculously high health as your party leader for the fight. Then if worst comes to worst, you can use Renew or a Summon to revive the fallen.

I find Vanille a better healer than Hope, maybe her magic is lower but her Raise is accessible before Hope's and so are some other spells. Snow is the best Sentinel in the game, mainly because of his high HP. The best commando is Fang, but in my case Lightning has the highest stats so I normally use her instead.

I would've used Vanille, but I was busy trying to get her maxed out as a Saboteur, Death was a nice incentive to throw all of her CP at that lol. AS a resulat, she was relatively average as a medic at the time, but now, yes, she's definately my best healer. Snow I won't add in until I get him maxed out as a synergist. I can't swap out Sazh until I have someone who can buff as well. Until then, I just use Fang for both Sentinel and Comando awesomeness.

This fight was the bane of my existence.

Honestly, I hated it. If you are seriously stuck, try using the Fortisol on your party before you enter the room. That definitely made a difference for me.

I can totally relate to your frustrations!

    Re: Barthandelus help :(

Only reason it frustrated me, was because he never killed me right away, he waited until I'd already wasted 5 minutes or more of my life wailing on him, only to be forced to repeat it by that damned Destrudo.
