This is my first time through. I'm just sort of blasting my way through. I know how to change hope to a synergist, but how do I get a specific spell from him or is that what he would do anyway?

When fighting Alexander, Hope is the leader so you can choose the spells yourself or you can also cast Libra and use the Auto Command option.

Whenever Hope is in the party but isn't the leader, use Libra, that will make him act according to the enemy's strengths and weaknesses.
